  • The instrumented Charpy impact test is generally used to evaluate the dynamic fracture toughnesses for varying engineering materials. However, the test is known to be difficult to evaluate the dynamic fracturetoughnesses for very brittle materials because of the small crack initiation load which may be engulfed by the inertia load of the instrumented tup. To evaluate the dynamic fracture toughnesses of very brittle materials, such as chalk or plaster,it is thus, necessary to develop a load sensitive instrumented tup. In this study, a polymer tup, which has very small Young's modulus comparing to one of the conventional steel tup, is used for the instrumented Charpy impact test, and a proper testing method to evaluate the dynamic fracture behavior of very brittle materials is developed. The results show that the developed method can measure rapidly changing loads from the moment of contact between the tup and the specimen to dynamic crack initiation of the very brittle materials.

  • Most of the structure of the real world is influenced under dynamic loads. However, when structure analysis and the structural optimization is performed, it is assumed that the static load acts on structure. When considering the actual load of dynamic loads in order to take into account a variety of loads, computational resources and time becomes a big burden in terms of cost. However, considering only the simple static load condition is not preferable for structural safety. For this reason, a lot of studies have been conducted trying to compensate this trouble by applying weight factor or replacing dynamic load with the equivalent static load. In this study, structural optimization techniques for structures under dynamic loads is proposed by applying the equivalent static load. From previous study, after determining the positions of equivalent static load based on primary degrees of freedom, the equivalent static load is calculated through the optimization process. In this process, the equivalent static load optimization of previous research is complemented by adding constraints to avoid excessively large load extraction. In numerical examples, dynamic load is applied to the truss structure and the plate. Then, the reliability of the proposed optimization technique is verified by carrying out size optimization with the equivalent static load.

  • In most existing distributed Web systems, incoming requests are distributed to servers via Domain Name System (DNS). Although such systems are simple to implement, the address caching mechanism easily results in load unbalancing among servers. Moreover, modification of the DNS is necessary to load considering the server's state. In this paper, we propose a new dynamic load balancing method using dynamic DNS update and round-robin mechanism. The proposed method performs effective load balancing without modification of the DNS. In this method, a server can dynamically be added to or removed from the DNS list according to the server's load. By removing the overloaded server from the DNS list, the response time becomes faster. For dynamic scheduling, we propose a scheduling algorithm that considers the CPU, memory, and network usage. We can select a scheduling policy based on resources usage. The proposed system can easily be managed by a GUI-based management tool. Experiments show that modules implemented in this paper have low impact on the proposed system. Furthermore, experiments show that both the response time and the file transfer rate of the proposed system are faster than those of a pure Round-Robin DNS.

  • Applications of advanced composite material in construction field are tending upwards and development of all composite material bridges is making progress rapidly in home and abroad due to their high strength to weight ratio. This paper formulated the dynamic responses of the laminated composite structures subjected to moving load and analyzed the various dynamic behaviors using the finite element method. The nondimensionalized natural frequencies of a simply supported square-laminated composite plate are considered for verifications. Mode superposition and Newmark direct integration method are applied for moving load analysis. For structural models, dynamic magnification factor calculated for various velocities of the moving load and displacements characteristics of laminated composite structures due to the moving load are investigated theoretically Numerical results are presented to study the effects of lamination scheme, stacking sequence, and fiber angle for laminated composite structures during moving load. The various results on moving load and lamination through numerical analysis will present an important basic data for development and grasp the behavior of all composite material bridges.

  • The simulation of dynamic load was conducted based on surface profile on asphalt concrete pavement, vehicle speeds, and suspension types using a truck simulation program. The results of the simulated dynamic load based on different surface profile, vehicle speeds, and suspension types are analyzed. As pavement roughness and vehicle speed are increased, the dynamic load was increased. Walking beam suspension produces greater dynamic load than air spring suspension. Pavement damage index is calculated based on covariance of dynamic load and Paris-Erdogan fracture parameter, n which is based on creep compliance tests of asphalt mixtures used in Korea. The higher covariance of dynamic load, confidence level, and fracture parameter are used, the greater pavement damage index is obtained. Specification of pavement roughness can be developed in various vehicle speeds and asphalt mixtures, and pay factor can be determined after constructing asphalt concrete pavement using pavement damage concepts.

  • In distributed environments, dynamic partitioning is needed to resolve the load on a particular server or the load caused by communication among servers. In heterogeneous environments, existing dynamic partitioning schemes can distribute the same load to a server with a low physical performance, which results in a delayed query response time. In this paper, we propose a dynamic partitioning scheme for large RDF data in heterogeneous environments. The proposed scheme calculates the query loads with its frequency and the number of vertices used in the query for load balancing. In addition, we calculate the server loads by considering the physical performance of the servers to allocate less of a load to the servers with a smaller physical performance in a heterogeneous environment. We perform dynamic partitioning to minimize the number of edge-cuts to reduce the traffic among servers. To show the superiority of the proposed scheme, we compare it with an existing dynamic partitioning scheme through a performance evaluation.

  • This paper focuses on the study of complete dynamic modeling and maximum dynamic load carrying capacity computation of N-flexible links and N-flexible joints mobile manipulator undergoing large deformation. Nonlinear dynamic analysis relies on the Timoshenko theory of beams. In order to model the system completely and precisely, structural and joint flexibility, nonlinear strain-displacement relationship, payload, and non-holonomic constraints will be considered to. A finite element solution method based on mixed method is applied to model the shear deformation. This procedure is considerably more involved than displacement based element and shear deformation can be readily included without inducing the shear locking in the element. Another goal of this paper is to present a computational procedure for determination of the maximum dynamic load of geometrically nonlinear manipulators with structural and joint flexibility. An effective measure named as Moment-Height Stability (MHS) measure is applied to consider the dynamic stability of a wheeled mobile manipulator. Simulations are performed for mobile base manipulator with two flexible links and joints. The results represent that dynamic stability constraint is sensitive when calculating the maximum carrying load. Furthermore, by changing the trajectory of end effector, allowable load also changes. The effect of torsional spring parameter on the joint deformation is investigated in a parametric sensitivity study. The findings show that, by the increase of torsional stiffness, the behavior of system approaches to a system with rigid joints and allowable load of robot is also enhanced. A comparison is also made between the results obtained from small and large deformation models. Fluctuation range in obtained figures for angular displacement of links and end effector path is bigger for large deformation model. Experimental results are also provided to validate the theoretical model and these have good agreement with the simulated results.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of increasing weight load on the dynamic balance on Y-balance Test(YBT). 18 male and female adults in their 20-30s (age: 23.17±1.72 years, height: 172.46±9.84 cm, weight: 73.39±11.44 kg, leg length: 88.89±5.69 cm) participated in the experiment. To measure the dynamic balance, the YBT was used to measure the reach distance, composite score, and COP variables to derive the results. As a result of the study, dynamic balance was improved in weight load in posteromedial and posterolateral reach and overall score during YBT. As a result of COP, anteroposterior amplitude, left and right COP velocity, and COP area during anterior reach improved dynamic balance in weight load in the right foot, but there was no difference during the posteromedial reach, ML amplitude in the left foot, AP COP velocity in left foot, ML COP velocity and COP velocity in both foot, and COP area in both foot improved dynamic balance when weight load during posterolateral reach.

  • A dynamic load simulator(DLS) which can reproduce on-ground the aerodynamic hinge moment of control surface is an essential rig for the performance and stability test of aircraft actuation system. By setting up load actuator as counter acting with the control surface driving actuator and designing an appropriate force control system for load actuator, DLS can be mechanized. Obtaining an accurate mathematical model for the DLS is the first step to successfully design an aerodynamic load replicati on system. Two theoretical models are presented and tested for their validities with the experimental results, which turns out to be not successful. An alternative way of using system identification approaches in investigated to develop a good nominal model for DLS dynamics, and suitable uncertainty bounds for this nominal model are proposed with the consideration of experimental results.

  • Since the oil crisis, we have been concerned about the energy saving techniques of electric generating systems. As a part of the effort to save energy, automatic electric load sharing device was developed. Usually, ship's electric generating system consists of two or three sets of generator. And, electric generating system is operated as single or parallel operation mode according to the demanded electric power. Therefore, it is important to investigate generators operating mode for the supply of required electric power in the ship in order to decrease the operating cost. So, this paper suggests the method to solve the optimal electric load distribution problem by dynamic programming. And, this thesis indicates that the proposed method is superior to the lagrange multiplier's method in obtaining optimal load distribution solution in the ship's electric generating system.
