Multi-Channel Pipelining for Energy Efficiency and Delay Reduction in Wireless Sensor Network (무선 센서 네트워크에서 에너지 효율성과 지연 감소를 위한 다중 채널 파리프라인 기법)

  • Most of the energy efficient MAC protocols for wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are based on duty cycling in a single channel and show competitive performances in a small number of traffic flows; however, under concurrent multiple flows, they result in significant performance degradation due to contention and collision. We propose a multi-channel pipelining (MCP) method for convergecast WSN in order to address these problems. In MCP, a staggered dynamic phase shift (SDPS) algorithms devised to minimize end-to-end latency by dynamically staggering wake-up schedule of nodes on a multi-hop path. Also, a phase-locking identification (PLI) algorithm is proposed to optimize energy efficiency. Based on these algorithms, multiple flows can be dynamically pipelined in one of multiple channels and successively handled by sink switched to each channel. We present an analytical model to compute the duty cycle and the latency of MCP and validate the model by simulation. Simulation evaluation shows that our proposal is superior to existing protocols: X-MAC and DPS-MAC in terms of duty cycle, end-to-end latency, delivery ratio, and aggregate throughput.

An Experimental Study on Thermal Regeneration of Filter Trap by Diesel Engine Performance and Characteristics of Exhaust Pipe (디젤기관의 성능과 배기관 특성에 의한 필터트랩의 열재생에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • The exhaust emissions from diesel vehicle are known to be harmful to human health and environment. Recently, one of the most environment problems is particulate matter. In this study, through the actual exper iment and heat transfer of exhaust pipe in light duty diesel engine equipped with the ceramic filter trap of throttling type, following results are obtained. 1. In case of light duty diesel engine equipped with ceramic filter trap of throttling type, Power and torque of engine were decreased about 5%, compared with the case without trap system. It means that was not so much effect on base engine performance.2. If the length of exhaust pipe when equipping with ceramic filter trap is suitably controlled, the range of regeneration will be expand much more.3. Particulate matter reduction efficiency of ceramic filter trap system was about 70%-80%, so it was proved a good system to reduce particulate matter.In experiment, test was conducted to estimate engine emission in 2,476cc light duty diesel engine which was equipped with ceramic filter trap.

  • Recently, the trend of zero emissions has increased in automotive engineering because of environmental problems and regulations. Therefore, the development of battery electric vehicles (EVs), hybrid/plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs/PHEVs), and fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) has been mainstreamed. In particular, for light-duty electric vehicles, improvement in electric motor performance is directly linked to driving range and driving performance. In this paper, using an improved design for the interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM), the EV driving range for the light-duty EV was extended. In the electromagnetic design process, a 2D finite element method (FEM) was used. Furthermore, to consider mechanical stress, ANSYS Workbench was adopted. To conduct a vehicle simulation, the vehicle was modeled to include an electric motor model, energy storage model, and regenerative braking. From these results, using the advanced vehicle simulator (ADVISOR) based on MATLAB Simulink, a vehicle simulation was performed, and the effects of the improved design were described.

  • Bluetooth Low Energy (Bluetooth LE) is a representative break-through communication technology for wireless personal area networks on nowaday. In this environment, most of significant performance should be aiming to energy efficiency due to the policy for manufacturing light-weighted communication devices derived from requirement of world IoT market, and many researches have been developed to satisfy this requirement. While Bluetooth LE has been leading the low power communication technology required from the current market by employing duty cycle and frequency hopping approaches, it couldn't address the problem of reliability on broadcast transmissions. The main goal of this paper is aiming to addressing this problem by suggesting a new method. Furthermore analytic evaluations would also be proceeded to find objective results in the view point of broadcast transmission efficiency from Master device.

  • A high efficiency half bridge converter for PDP in whole operation load range is proposed in this paper. The ZVS(Zero Voltage Switching) in whole load range and high efficiency in low load range is achieved because the proposed converter is switched by fixed frequency asymmetrical duty ratio and resonant operation.

  • In this paper we proposed a new electrode design to get an enhanced luminous efficiency in AC PDP. The width and shape of the TTO electrode were varied, and the electro-optical properties such as luminance, power consumption, luminous efficiency were estimated with the variation of frequency, duty ratio and applied voltage. The discharge characteristics were investigated to explain the effect of the new electrode structure on the electro-optical properties.

  • The duty-free industry before COVID-19 has continuously grown since 2000, along with the increase of demand in tourism industry. To cope with the increased demand, the duty free companies have kept the strategies which focused on the sales volume. Therefore, they have developed the ways to increase the volume and capacity, not the efficient operations. In the most of previous research, however, authors have proposed the better strategies for marketing and supporting policies. It is very hard to find the previous research which dealt with the operations like logistics and inventory management. Therefore, in this study, it has been predicted the future demand of frequently purchased items in airport duty free shops based on the estimated number of departing passengers by the linear regression, which concluded with the appropriate inventory level. In addition, it has been analyzed the expected effects by introducing the inventory management policy considering the cost and efficiency of operations. Based on the results of this study, it may be possible to reduce total cost and improve productivity by predicting the excessive inventory problems at duty-free shops and improving cycles of supplying items.

Clamping-diode Circuit for Marine Controlled-source Electromagnetic Transmitters

  • Marine controlled-source electromagnetic transmitters (MCSETs) are important in marine electromagnetic exploration systems. They play a crucial role in the exploration of solid mineral resources, marine oil, and gas and in marine engineering evaluation. A DC-DC controlled-source circuit is typically used in traditional MCSETs, but using this circuit in MCSETs causes several problems, such as large voltage ringing of the high-frequency diode, heating of the insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) module, high temperature of the high-frequency transformer, loss of the duty cycle, and low transmission efficiency of the controlled-source circuit. This paper presents a clamping-diode circuit for MCSET (CDC-MCSET). Clamping diodes are added to the controlled-source circuit to reduce the loss of the duty ratio and the voltage peak of the high-frequency diode. The temperature of the high-frequency diode, IGBT module, and transformer is decreased, and the service life of these devices is prolonged. The power transmission efficiency of the controlled-source circuit is also improved. Saber simulation and a 20 KW MCSET are used to verify the correctness and effectiveness of the proposed CDC-MCSET.

  • In this paper we describe an asynchronous MAC protocol with receiver-initiated duty cycling for energy-efficiency in wireless sensor networks(WSN). Legacy asynchronous MAC protocols, X-MAC and PW-MAC, has weaknesses which generates too many control packets and has data collision problem between multiple transmitters, respectively. Therefore, we propose a receiver-initiated asynchronous MAC protocol which generates control packets from transmitter to complement these disadvantages. Compared to the prior asynchronous duty cycling approaches of X-MAC and PW-MAC, the proposed protocol shows a improvement in energy-efficiency, throughput and latency from simulation results.

ODM: A Neighbor Discovery Protocol Based on Optimal Discovery Model in WSNs

  • It is a challenging issue to improve the energy efficiency of neighbor discovery in WSNs. This paper proposes an optimal discovery model (ODM) for the first time. Based on the model, we investigate the influence of the relative size of two unequal active slots on the energy efficiency. ODM provides the energy optimal value of the length of the larger active slot at a given duty cycle. Other than existing methods, the worst-case latency bound of ODM is only one period. This is a subversive conclusion, because almost all other related methods are based on a wake-up schedule that contains several periods. We theoretically deduce that ODM can reduce worst-case discovery latency by 43.89% compared to Searchlight-Trim when their duty cycles are the same. The simulations verify the advantage of ODM.
