  • This Paper Presents an effective and simple procedure for the simulation of the motion of the solid-liquid interfacial boundary and the transient temperature field during phase change process. To accomplish this purpose, an iterative implicit solution algorithm has been developed by employing the dual reciprocity boundary element method. The dual reciprocity boundary element approach provided in this paper is much simpler than the usual boundary element method applying a reciprocity principle and an available technique for dealing with domain integral of boundary element formulation simultaneously. The effectiveness of the present analysis method have been illustrated through comparisons of the calculation results of an example with its semi-analytical or other numerical solutions where available.

  • A new SRAM pixel circuit with RESET Transistor of a LCOS display module was designed for a pico-projector application. A dual-block PWM method was also proposed to realize the field sequential color system having only one LCOS panel. 0.29 inch LCOS panel in SVGA resolution was fabricated and the proposed dual-block PWM method was tested with it. Discontinuity of brightness curve was caused due to multi-pulses and it was improved by the adoption of proper mapping table. With the proposed SRAM with RESET pixel circuit and dual-block PWM method, the test images were successfully demonstrated.

  • This study presents an effective dual algorithm for the optimal design of steel structures with displacement constraints. The dual method can replace a primary optimization problem with a sequence of approximate explicit subproblems with a simple algebraic structure. Since being convex and separable, each subproblem can be solved efficiently by the dual method. Specifically, this study uses the principle of virtual work to obtain the displacement constraint equations with an explicit form and adds the linear regression equation expressing the relationships between the cross-section properties to the dual algorithm to reduce the number of design variables. Furthermore, this study deals with the discrete optimization problem to select members with the standard steel sections. Through numerical analyses, the proposed method will be compared with the conventional optimality criteria method.

  • In this paper, we implemented a dual-resolution image database system for the fast naked-eye retrieval using interpolation. This system can solve two conventional problems : a blocking noise at zoom-out image in single high resolution method and a big storage to store in simple dual-resolution image database system. The proposed method makes a subsampled image by subsampling a original image, and then a interpolated image of it using interpolation. After that, a hybrid dual-resolution image database is composed based on the differential image between the interpolated image and the original image. Experimental results of simulating through 60 sample images shows that the proposed method is 0.011 second faster than simple high-resolution method in the retrieval time - one is 0.003 second, the other is 0.014 second, respectively. Also, that improves 14.7% more than simple dual-resolution method in the stored size - one is 19,821 byte, the other is 16,910 byte, respectively.

  • For mass and volume reduction, input demultiplxer and output multiplexer of satellite transponder widely adopt dual-mode waveguide filters fer channel filters. Generally, channel filters of the input demultiplexer are doubly terminated and channel filters of manifold output multiplexer should be singly terminated fur correct operation. This paper gives a tuning method using short-ended dummy cavity for dual-mode cavity filters. Tuning is based on the match of the computed and measured phase response of reflection coefficient. This proposed method is applied to 4-pole dual-mode doubly terminated elliptic response filter and 6-pole dual-mode singly terminated elliptic response filter for demonstration of this new tuning method. It is shown that this method shows good agreement between the experimental and computed results.

  • This paper presents a dual modeling method that simulates the graphic and haptic behavior of a volumetric deformable object and conveys the behavior to a human operator. Although conventional modeling methods (a mass-spring model and a finite element method) are suitable for the real-time computation of an object's deformation, it is not easy to compute the haptic behavior of a volumetric deformable object with the conventional modeling method in real-time (within a 1kHz) due to a computational burden. Previously, we proposed a fast volume haptic rendering method based on the S-chain model that can compute the deformation of a volumetric non-rigid object and its haptic feedback in real-time. When the S-chain model represents the object, the haptic feeling is realistic, whereas the graphical results of the deformed shape look linear. In order to improve the graphic and haptic behavior at the same time, we propose a dual modeling framework in which a volumetric haptic model and a surface graphical model coexist. In order to inspect the graphic and haptic behavior of objects represented by the proposed dual model, experiments are conducted with volumetric objects consisting of about 20,000 nodes at a haptic update rate of 1000Hz and a graphic update rate of 30Hz. We also conduct human factor studies to show that the haptic and graphic behavior from our model is realistic. Our experiments verify that our model provides a realistic haptic and graphic feeling to users in real-time.

  • PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of ankle dual task including motor training on the static balance, dynamic balance in the elderly. METHODS: 30 elderly people were randomly divided into 3 groups: 10 people in the single motor task group, 10 people in the double motor dual task group and 10 people in the motor-cognitive dual task group. In the double motor dual tasks group was performed ankle balance motor task additional motor task. Motor-cognitive dual task group was performed ankle balance motor task additional cognitive task. Single motor task group was performed ankle balance motor task. It was performed three times intervention a week for six weeks. Statistical analysis method was performed using one way ANOVA for comparison between groups, and the paired t-test was used for comparison pre and post intervention. RESULTS: Static and dynamic balance were significant differences between pre and post intervention by three groups (p<.05). In static balance, there was a significant difference among groups (p<.05), but there was not a significant difference between groups in dynamic balance (p>.05). CONCLUSION: The results of the research, the ankle balance dual task including motor or cognitive task was more effective than single motor task on static balance in the elderly.

  • Offshore pipelines play an important role in the transportation of gas, oil, water and oil products. It is common to have a group of pipelines in the oil and gas field. To reduce the installation cost and time, dual pipelines are designed. There are great advantages in the installation of dual pipelines over two separate single lines. It can greatly reduce the cost for trench, back-filling and installation. However the installation of dual pipelines often requires technical challenges. Pipelines should be placed to be stable against external loadings during installation and design life period. Dual pipelines in trench can reduce the influence of external forces. To investigate the flow patterns and forces as trench depth and slope changes, number of experiments are conducted with PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry) equipment in a Circulating Water Channel. Numerical approaches to simulate experimental conditions are also made to compare with experimental results. The velocity fields around dual pipelines in trench are investigated and analysed. Comparison of both results show similar patterns of flow around pipelines. It is proved that the trench depth contributes significantly on hydrodynamic stability. The trench slope also affects the pipeline stability. The results can be applied in the stability design of dual pipelines in trench section. The complex flow patterns can be effectively linked in the understanding of fluid motions around multi-circular bodies in trench.

  • The present study proposes a method for modeling a SONAR transducer with dual resonance. The Butterworth van-Dyke (BVD) model, a conventional SONAR transducer modeling method, can model only one resonance point. Hence, to address its disadvantage and to model the dual resonance, a dual resonance BVD model consisting of two serial BVD models is proposed. The two BVD models are connected in a series, and each simulate resonance at low frequency and high frequency, which allows the modeling of two resonance points. Eight elements compose the equivalent circuit by connecting the BVD models in a series, which is twice as great as that of the existing BVD model. The element value of the dual resonance BVD model is extracted by using the particle swarm optimization method. Analysis was also performed to identify the effects of changes in the value of elements that compose the equivalent circuit on the impedance characteristics of the equivalent circuit through simulation in which element values varied.
