  • Viral pathogens, alongside other pathogens, have major effects on crustacean aquaculture. Hepatopancreatic parvovirus (HPV) is an emerging virus in the shrimp industry and has been detected in shrimp farms worldwide. The HPV genome has greater diversity than other shrimp viruses owing to its wide host range and geographical distribution. Therefore, developing diagnostic tools is essential to detect even small copy numbers from the target region of native HPV isolates. We have developed two easy to use quantitative real-time PCR kits, called Green Star and Dual Star, which contain all of the necessary components for real-time PCR, including HPV primers, using the primers obtained from the sequences of HPV isolates from Korea, and analyzed their specificity, efficiency, and reproducibility. These two kits could detect from 1 to $1{\times}10^9$ copies of cloned HPV DNA. The minimum detection limits obtained from HPV-infected shrimp were $7.74{\times}10^1$ and $9.06{\times}10^1$ copies in the Green Star and Dual Star assay kits, respectively. These kits can be used for rapid, sensitive, and efficient screening for HPV isolates from Korea before the introduction of postlarval stages into culture ponds, thereby decreasing the incidence of early development of the disease.

  • In this paper we consider a local area network (LAN) of dual mode service where one is a token bus and the other is a carrier sense multiple access with a collision detection (CSMA/CD) bus. The objective of the paper is to find the overall cell/packet dropping probability of a dual mode LAN for finite length queue M/G/1(m) traffic. Here, the offered traffic of the LAN is taken to be the equivalent carried traffic of a one-millisecond delay. The concept of a tabular solution for two-dimensional Poisson's traffic of circuit switching is adapted here to find the cell dropping probability of the dual mode packet service. Although the work is done for the traffic of similar bandwidth, it can be extended for the case of a dissimilar bandwidth of a circuit switched network.

  • Although digital mammography is a representative method for breast cancer detection. It has a limitation in detecting and classifying breast tumor due to superimposed structures. Machine learning, which is a part of artificial intelligence fields, is a method for analysing a large amount of data using complex algorithms, recognizing patterns and making prediction. In this study, we proposed a technique to improve the diagnostic accuracy of energy-selective mammography by training data using the machine learning algorithm and using dual-energy measurements. A dual-energy images obtained from a photon-counting detector were used for the input data of machine learning algorithms, and we analyzed the accuracy of predicted tumor thickness for verifying the machine learning algorithms. The results showed that the classification accuracy of tumor thickness was above 95% and was improved with an increase of imput data. Therefore, we expect that the diagnostic accuracy of energy-selective mammography can be improved by using machine learning.

  • It is important for operators of poly-pipelines in petroleum industry to continuously monitor characteristics of transferred fluid such as its type and amount. To achieve this aim, in this study a dual energy gamma attenuation technique in combination with artificial neural network (ANN) is proposed to simultaneously determine type and amount of four different petroleum by-products. The detection system is composed of a dual energy gamma source, including americium-241 and barium-133 radioisotopes, and one 2.54 cm × 2.54 cm sodium iodide detector for recording the transmitted photons. Two signals recorded in transmission detector, namely the counts under photo peak of Americium-241 with energy of 59.5 keV and the counts under photo peak of Barium-133 with energy of 356 keV, were applied to the ANN as the two inputs and volume percentages of petroleum by-products were assigned as the outputs.

  • A monotype valve body for a dual clutch transmission has the potential to reduce costs, weight, and manufacturing time by modularizing various parts, including those of existing solenoid packs and valve bodies, into one through the application of super-precision die casting technology. However, this approach may lead to challenges such as reduced rigidity and increased interference due to modularization and compactness, impacting both product performance due to the reduced weight as well as durability and reliability. Unlike existing products, this approach requires a high-precision thin-wall block to avoid more complicated flow line formation, interference between flow lines, and leaks, as well as a strict quality requirement standard and precise inspections including detection of internal defects. To conduct precise inspections, we built an equivalent model corresponding to a driving distance of 300,000 km. Testing involved simulating actual road loads using a real vehicle and a chassis dynamometer in the FTP-75 mode (EPA Federal Test Procedure). The aim of the study was to establish a vehicle load-based part durability model for manufacturing a mono-type valve body and to develop fundamental technology for part weight reduction through preliminary design by introducing analytical weight reduction technology based on the derived results.

  • This paper describes the Petri Net(PN) model for reliability analysis of fault-tolerant dual Ethernet which Is applied in Naval Combat System. The network for Naval Combat System performs failure detection and auto path recovery by handling redundant path in case of temporary link failure. After studying the behavior of this kind of network, the reliability analysis model is proposed using stochastic Petri Net and continuous-time Markov chains. Finally, the numerical result is analyzed according to changing the failure rate and the recover rate of link.

  • A low-complexity dual-user multiplexing scheme is proposed for a pair of mobiles equipped with single antenna operating over frequency-selective fading channels. The proposed scheme employs OFDM transmission scheme with a modified version of a space-frequency code and a low-complexity PIC-SIC group detection is invoked at the corresponding receiver. The BER performances of the proposed scheme are studied using LTE-like parameters through simulations and are compared against those of conventional ZF and ML schemes.

  • The effect of high irradiation on inspection systems in a nuclear power plant can be severe, especially to electronic components such as control hoards. The effect may lead to a critical malfunction or trouble to a underwater robot for inspection and maintenance of nuclear reactor. However, if information on the total accumulated dose on the sensitive parts of the robot is available, a prediction of robot's behavior in radiation environments becomes possible. To know how much radiation the robot has encountered, a dosimeter to measure the total accumulated dose is necessary. This paper describes the development effort of a dual radiation monitoring system using a SiC diode as a dose-rate meter and a p-type power MOSFET as a dose meter. This attempt using two sensors which detect same radiation improves reliability and stability at high intensity radiation detection in nuclear facilities. It uses the concept of diversity and redundancy.

  • This research aims to formulate a mathematical model and develop an algorithm for solving a location problem in emergency medical service vehicle parking. To find an optimal parking location which has the least risk score or risk priority number calculated from severity, occurrence, detection, and distance from parking location for emergency patients, data were collected from Pratoom sub-district Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Center from October 2010 to April 2011. The criteria of risk evaluation were modified from Automotive Industry Action Group's criteria. An adaptive simulated annealing algorithm with multiple cooling schedules called multi-agent simulated quenching (MASQ) is proposed for solving the problem in two schemes of algorithms including dual agent and triple agent quenching. The result showed that the solution obtained from both scheme of MASQ was better than the traditional solution. The best locations obtained from MASQ-dual agent quenching scheme was nodes #5 and #133. The risk score was reduced 61% from 6,022 to 2,371 points.

  • For more than four decades, ion-sensitive field-effect transistor (ISFET) sensors that respond to the change of surface potential on a membrane have been intensively investigated in the chemical, environmental, and biological spheres, because of their potential, in particular their compatibility with CMOS manufacturing technology. Here, we demonstrate a new type of ISFET with dual-gate (DG) structure fabricated on ultra-thin body (UTB), which highly boosts sensitivity, as well as enhancing chemical stability. The classic ion-sensitive field-effect transistor (ISFET) has been confronted with chronic problems; the Nernstian response, and detection limit with in the Debye length. The super-coupling effects imposed on the ultra thin film serve to not only maximize sensitivity of the DG ISFET, but also to strongly suppress its leakage currents, leading to a better chemical stability. This geometry will allow the ISFET based biosensor platform to continue enhancement into the next decade.
