In order to estimate the nutrient flux of the Seomjin River into the coastal waters of South Sea, and to understand the estuarine reactions during mixing between river water and seawater, we collected surface water along the salinity gradient in the Seomjin River estuary from Mar. 1999 to Apr. 2001. We found that nitrate and silicate were delivered by fluvial input, while phosphate was, supplied from disposed wastes in the Gwangyang Bay. Mean annual flux of dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN), phosphate and silicate into the Gwangyang Bay was estimated 10.9 molesㆍsec$^{-1}$(4,820 tonnesㆍyr$^{-1}$), 0.07 molesㆍsec$^{-1}$(68 tonnesㆍyr$^{-1}$), 13.3 molesㆍsec$^{-1}$(11,747 tonnesㆍy$^{-1}$), respectively. An evident removal of phosphate, silicate and ammonium at the mid-salinity zone during the dry season was attributed to the active uptake of phytoplankton, and consequently nutrient flux into the Gwangyang Bay was low. Whereas, during the flood season in summer, conservative or additional distribution of the nutrients was observed in the estuary. As a rsult nutrient flux into the Gwangyang Bay was maintained high. High concentrations of chlorophyll a and the active removal of nutrient during the dry season at the mid-salinity zone suggest that nutrient distribution in the Seomjin River estuary was mainly controlled by biological processes and nutrient fluxes into the Gwangyang Bay might be significantly modified of by the primary production.
In this paper, in order to set up the management system of water quality environment in Gwangyang Bay, the cluster analysis of water quality environment, the estimation of inflowing pollutant loads and residence time of pollutants in this bay was carried out. The Gwangyang Bay was divided into eight sea areas by cluster analysis and spatio-temporal change of water quality. The river discharges in the Bay were calculated about $11,681{\times}103m^3/day$ from the numerical simulation by Tank model. In addition, inflowing pollutant loads of COD, SS, TN, TP, DIN and DIP in Gwangyang Bay were estimated at 398 ton-COD/day, 2,846 ton-SS/day, 195 ton-TN/day, 5 ton-TP/day, 126 ton-DIN/day and 3 ton-DIP/day, respectively. Moreover, residence times of COD, TN and TP in the Bay was estimated at 6 days-COD, 20 days-TN and 195 days-TP, respectively in the dry season, and 3 days-COD, 6 days-TN and 21 days- TP, respectively, in the flood season. The central part of Gwangyang Bay (Region IV) has the longest residence time of overall pollutants.

Biases embedded in numerical weather precipitation forecasts by the RDAPS model was determined, quantified and corrected. The ultimate objective is to eventually enhance the reliability of reservoir operation by Korean Water Resources Corporation (KOWACO), which is based on precipitation-driven forecasts of stream flow. Statistical post-processing, so called MOS (Model Output Statistics) was applied to RDAPS to improve their performance. The Artificial Neural Nwetwork (ANN) model was applied for 4 cases of 'Probability of Precipitation (PoP) for wet and dry season' and 'Quantitative Precipitation Forecasts (QPF) for wet and dry season'. The reduction on the large systematic bias was especially remarkable. The performance of both networks may be improved by retraining, probably every month. In addition, it is expected that performance of the networks will improve once atmospheric profile data are incorporated in the analysis. The key to the optimal performance of ANN is to have a large data set relevant to the predictand variable. The more complex the process to be modeled by the ANN, the larger the data set needs to be.

During the summer season, it is very hot and humid in Korea. So the humidity is an important factor regarding the environmental control function of building envelops. The purpose of this research is to measure and analyze the characteristics of such environmental factors as relative humidity, dry bulb temperature and air velocity varies both in the clay and cement envelop structures using granite dome models during the summer time. The interior relative humidity of the clay model is constant regardless of exterior humidity although a little range of variation is shown in comparison to the cement model.
Research was conducted to determine the micromineral status of grazing cattle in three climatic regions of the province of South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Soil, forage, blood and liver samples were collected within the Western, Central and Eastern regions in February-March and August-September of 1987. Forages were deficient in copper, selenium and zinc. Serum copper was deficient in all regions but zinc was deficient more in the dry season. Liver copper was deficient in all regions and both seasons except in the central region in the rainy season. Based on the analyses, microminerals most likely deficient in both the rainy and dry seasons for each region were as follows: Western-copper, selenium and zinc; Central-manganese and copper; Eastern-selenium, copper and zinc. Some degree of molybdenum excess was found in the Eastern region.

One of the landslide, Debris flow means flow mixed of rocks, gravels, sand and soil with water. Debris flow occurred in summer by passed the rainy season and typhoon. Especially, Localized heavy rain derived from abnormal weather caused debris flow independent of season. It is increase to collapse of house, bridge, roads by debris flow but countermeasure studies about occurrence cause, movement pattern, damage scale about debris flow are insufficient. This study performed debris flow model experiment using dry material and calculated shock force predicted debris flow occurrence.

During summer season, the weather condition of Korea is hot and humid. So humidity elements are very important relating to building envelope condition. The purpose of this investigation is to measure and analyze characteristics of summer's environmental elements such as relative humidity, dry bulb temperature and air velocity in the clay/cement envelope materials using a granite dome model. According to the variation of exterior humidity, the state of interior relative humidity for clay model has an equal tendency, although a little range of variation is shown in comparison to the cement model.

Long term precipitation gaging station record (58 years) was analyzed by progressive mean method to compare the estimated effective period of records for computing mean and probable values. Obtained results are as follows: 1. Fifty-eight years precipitation records at Jinju, Gyeong Sang Nam Do was analyzed by double mass analysis method. Result was appeared that the record was consistent with time. 2. The effective period of records for estimating mean values with the departure of 5% or less from the true mean are up to 33 years for annual precipitation, 20 years for annual maximum daily precipitation and 45 years for maximum successive dry days in summer season. 3. To estimate the probable values by Gumbel-Chow method within the departure of 5% level from true value, periods of 51 years, 38 years and 45 years were required for annual precipitation, annual maximum daily precipitation and maximum successive dry days in summer season, respectively.

The Kuem-River, one of the largest rivers in Korea, is the primary water source for more than 4 million people in Kongju city and surrounding area. To study the effect of stormwater runoff to CSOs, twelve monitoring sites were selected in two large cities (City of Kongju and City of Buyeo) near the Kuem-River. Monitoring was reformed by collecting grab samples, measuring flow rates during dry and wet seasons during over two rainy seasons. Generally the flow rate of wastewater in combined sewers was rapidly decreased after 23:00 P.M. and gradually increased from 06:30 A.M. in all sites during the dry season. The concentrations of pollutant increase approximately 5 to 7 fold for TSS and 1.5 to 2.5 fold for BOD during the rainy season. Monitoring and statistical analysis show that the groundwater contributes on sewage volume increase (average 25-45% more) during dry periods and the stormwater runoff contributes approximately 51-72% increase during rainy periods. Generally the concentrations of combined sewage were more polluted during the first flush period than after the first flush during a storm event.

This experiment was conducted at the forage experimental field, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Seoul National University, Suweon in 1992 and 1993 to investigate the effects of tillage method-conventional and rotary-till, rye (Secde cereale L.) harvest date-early (April 14) and late (April 26), and rye residue treatmentno paraquat(1, 1-dinethyl-4,4'-bipyridinium dichloride) and paraquat in minimizing the adverse effects of the rye residue on growth and yield of succeeding corn(Zea mays L.). Corn plant height during the growing season was slighly taller with conventional tillage relative to rotary-till when rye was harvested in early and treated by paraquat. Corn LA1 during the growing season was slighly increased when rye was harvested in early and where conventional tillage was used with paraquat treatment. There were no differences in the leaf number and silking dates of corn among the tillage methods, harvest dates of rye and paraquat treatments. The dry matter yield of corn was significantly increased by paraquat treatment when rye was harvest in early, but no differences were found in the dry matter percentage, ear percent to total dry matter, and stover, ear and estimated TDN yields of corn among the treatments.
