  • This study aimed to investigate the flexural behavior of precast concrete (PC) wall - steel shoe composite assemblies with various dry connection details at mid-span. Flexural tests were performed for five scenarios. Test parameters included the width of test specimens, arrangement of steel shoe connectors, and use of structural adhesive or waterproof tape at the mid-span joint. The test results showed that the PC wall - steel shoe composite assemblies joined at mid-span showed flexural damage patterns combined with rotational deformation, and the structural performance was satisfactory regardless of the arrangement of steel shoe connectors. Considering the two deformation components (flexural deformation by bending and rotational deformation due to joint opening), a theoretical model was proposed to analyze flexural strength and joint opening, and the simple model gave good predictions with acceptable accuracy.

  • Masonry structures are used as bearing walls in small buildings, but they are generally considered non-bearing walls. They are used as partition walls that divide the interior spaces of the frame structures of buildings. In addition, wetting techniques that use mortar as an adhesive between blocks or bricks in construction are vulnerable to climatic conditions, especially cracks in mortar, which can cause conduction collapse of the walls in seismic loading. The purpose of this research was to propose a dry concrete block construction method that complements the weak axial shear stiffness and improves the weakness of the wet construction method as well as to investigate its structural behavior. In this study, the material properties of concrete blocks were examined, and the seismic performance of the proposed dry assembly structure was verified by structural behavior tests on horizontal cyclic loads. First, in these study results, concrete blocks can be applied to the dry block construction method instead of wet construction methods because they secure more than C-type blocks in KS regulations. Second, the structural performance of the wall against a horizontal cyclic load indicates that the resisting force of the assembly block wall is increased by increasing the horizontal length of the wall, forming several diagonal cracks. Finally, the proposed dry block wall structure requires a seismic performance assessment considering that the ratio of the shape of the wall by height and length is considered a major influence variable on the structural behavior under a horizontal load.

  • This study performed several tests for the durability of the concrete coated with nano synthesis ceramics which do not contain volatile organic compounds harmful to environment. The tests were adhesion test on dry and humid concrete, SEM test, MIP analysis, carbonation, chloride diffusion by electronic facilitation, freezing-thawing resistance, alkaline resistance, and brine resistance test. In the adhesion test on dry and humid concrete, nano synthesis ceramics coating produced the highest results among all the coatings tested. Nano synthesis ceramics adhered solidly on the concrete surface. The adhesive strength seemed to result from the hydrogen bond between nano synthesis ceramics which are inorganic and generated by hydrolysis and re-condensation reaction and the concrete's hydrates such as calcium silicate aluminate or calcium silicate hydrate. SEM test and MIP analysis results show surface structure with finest crevices pore in the nano synthesis ceramics coating applied concretes. In the carbonation, chloride diffusion, and freezing-thawing resistance tests, the concretes with nano synthesis ceramics coating indicated the best results. Based on these test results, further progress in application of nano synthesis ceramics coatings to various concrete structures including costal structures and sewerage arrangements can be expected.

  • This article presents the results of experimental study that investigates the effect of filler and shrinkage reducing agent influencing on the strength properties of MMA-modified polymer paste that was produced to develop the surface-repair and coating materials of the concrete structures. Results show that the flexural and compressive strengths of the polymer paste increased 29 and 27%, respectively, when the aluminum hydroxide completely replaced the calcium carbonate as the filler Furthermore, when the shrinkage reducing agent was used 30%, both strengths decreased about 29% comparing to when the agent was not used. As in the cases of flexural and compressive strengths, the adhesive strength increased as the content of aluminum hydroxide as the filler increased, and it decreased as the content of shrinkage reducing agent increased. The adhesive strength with a dry concrete substrate turned out to be $30{\sim}40%$ higher than that with a wet concrete substrate.

  • This study is on the evaluation of performance of polymer cement mortar which is used for pre-wetting spray method. Pre-wetting spray method is an epoch-making method to repair concrete structures damaged, which is added a small quantity water preciously to dry mortar to reduce dust and rebound and spray mortar mixed with fixed quantity water at nozzle before spray. The result showed that physical performance such like compressive, flexural and adhesive strength of polymer cement mortar, TS 100 used for pre-wetting spray method was superior to other repair mortar. Also durable performance such as resistance on permeability of chloride ion, carbonation, chemical and freezing-thawing was excellent.

  • The research attempted to develop an eco-friendly wood adhesive based on vegetable oil (soybean oil), the renewable and sustainable natural resources, using ozonification technology for the chemical structure modification. The soybean oils (SBO) were reacted with $O_3$ at the rate of 7.13 g/h for different times, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 60 minutes, and 120 minutes. Modified chemical structure of the ozonized SBOs were examined by Fourier transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectrum. The FT-IR spectrum of SBO had an absorbance peak at $3010cm^{-1}$ that is the characteristic peak of the unsaturated double bonds. As ozone treatment time increased, the peak of the double bond was disappeared and aldehyde or carboxyl peak appeared at $1700cm^{-1}$. The dry, wet, and cyclic boiling bond strengths of the ozonized SBO mixed with polymeric diphenylmethane-4, 4-diisocyanate (pMDI) were also investigated. In the dry shear test, all strengths met constantly the standard requirement of $7.0kgf/cm^2$ (KS F3101 2006). The bond strengths gradually increased with increasing ozone treatment time. The highest strength showed at 60 minutes ozone treatment and decreased values at 120 minutes. In the cyclic boiling shear test, 30, 60 and 120 minutes exceeded the standard requirement.
