Microplastics have become a rising issue in due to its detection in oceans, rivers, and tap water. Although a large number of studies have been conducted on the detection and quantification in various water bodies, the number of research conducted on the removal and treatment of microplastics are still comparatively low. In the current research, the inflow and removal of microplastics were investigated for various drinking water treatment plants around the world. Addition to the investigation of filed research, a survey was also conducted on the current research trend on microplastic removal for different treatment processes in the drinking water treatment plants. This includes the researches conducted on coagulation/flocculation, sedimentation, dissolved air flotation, sand filtration and disinfection processes. The survey indicated mechanisms of microplastic removal in each process followed by the removal characteristics under various conditions. Limitations of current researches were also mentioned, regarding the gap between the laboratory experimental conditions and field conditions of drinking water treatment plants. We hope that the current review will aid in the understanding of current research needs in the field of microplastic removal in drinking water treatment.
Although stable and safe drinking water supply to the customers is a basic function of multi-regional water supply systems in Korea, most systems have their vulnerabilities in emergency time due to the branch-type. Application of connections from the other water supply system can provide a solutions for these tentative problems. This paper describes reduction planning of water supply accidents that can minimize a service interruption to customers in multi-regional water supply system by connecting pipe lines between local water supply systems in Mokpo city areas. The result of this study shows that Juam dam multi-regional water supply systems can cover all of the water shortage in southern parts of Jeonnam multi-regional water supply systems by transmitting water through connected pipes between local networks. This can be effective to supply water interactively in various contingencies, when a pipe line accident occurs in southern area of Jeonnam multi-regional water supply systems. On the contrary, southern area of Jeonnam multi-regional water supply systems can cover 99.5 %($62,500m^3/day$) of the water shortage of Juam dam multi-regional water supply systems when service interruptions caused by various pipe accidents occur in the system.
Built-out issue of copper processing appearing recently in the Paldang watershed is a critical problem to deteriorate the basic framework of national water management policy as well as to be simply a copper-related problem. Up to now, Korea government has invested hard and relevant upstream areas have been victimized readily in a variety of field to comply its goal of 'Safe Water Supply'. Because of the reason, the desirable water quality level of the Paldang watershed has been maintained regardless of its dense population. Paldang drinking water management policy is based on residents' understanding which is considered as a 'social capital'. The issue raised in the aspect of water quality management policy should be reviewed on the basis of the 'social capital' concept. One regarding semiconductor industry as a potential industry to export many products in 10 years insists that the industry not be a simple private business but be a prominent part for national competitiveness. There is no doubt about this opinion. However, a nation should support environmental right-to-life of its people prior to any other tasks. In other words, it is really risky to give up people's right due to economic benefits. Therefore, it should not happen to trade 'life', the dignity of man, with national competitiveness which is likely to be preferred in these days. In addition, coherent policy not to destroy 'social capital' promoting Paldang drinking water resource management policy should be maintained.

Chlorine disinfection has been used in drinking water supply to disinfect the water-borne microbial disease which may cause to serious human disease. it is still the least costly, relatively easy to use, Chlorination is the primary means to disinfect portable water supplies and control bacterial growth in the distribution system. However, chlorine reacts with natural organic matter(NOM), that presents in nearly all water sources, and then produces disinfection by-products(DBPs), that have adverse health effects. Although the existent DBPs have been reported in drinking water supplies, it is not feasible to predict the levels of the various DBPs due to the complex chemistry reaction involved. 1. The objectives of this study is to investigate seasonal variation difference concentration of DBPs in the plant to tap water. The average concentration of THMs was 20.04 ${\mu}g/{\ell}$ , HAAs 8-15 ${\mu}g/{\ell}$ , HANs 2-4.5 ${\mu}g/{\ell}$ respectively. 2. Distant variation of DBPs furmation by the distance is that THMs concentration increased by 17% at 2km point from the plant and by 28% at 7km and HAAs, HANs also increase each by 16%, 32% at 2 km from the plant and 35%, 56% at 7 km. DBPs increase in water supply pipe continually, 3. The seasonal occurrence of BBPs is that in May and August DBPs concentration is very higher than in march, in May DBPs concentration is highest. The temperature is main factor of DBPs formation, precursor also. 4. Precursor which was accumulated for winter flowed into the raw water by flooding in spring and summer and produced DBPs. 5. Therefore for the supply of secure drinking water, it is required to protect precursor of flowing into raw water and to add to BCAA and DBAA to drinking water standards.
This study was undertaken to evaluate the drinking water quality based on physicochemical properties and chemical compositions of the supply water in the Daedeok Campus, and to verify the analytical reliabilities of ICP-MS and IC equipped in the Central Research Facilities at Chungnam National University , Korea. The supply water belongs to $Ca^{2+}-({HCO_3}^-+{SO_4}^{2-})$type, whereas the original water from the Daecheong lake belongs to $(Ca^{2+}-(Mg^{2+})-{HCO_3}^-$ type. Generally, temperature (14.1$^{\circ}C$), pH (6.95), Eh (0 mV), electrical conductivity (117${\mu}$S/cm) and TDS (86.975mg/l) of supply water were higher than those of original lake water . Results using WATEQ4F revealed that potentially toxic ions of the supply water might exist mainly as free metals ($M^{2+}$) and a small amount as ${CO_3}^{2-}$ and $OH^-$ complexes. Also, the water composition belongs to the kaolinite field. Calculated average enrichment indies of the supply water normalized to lake water for anions, mamor cations, toxic cations and total ions are 1.05 , 1.56, 13.05 and 1.17 , respectively. Those values of the ground water in the Daedeok Campus showed 1.71, 4.78, 5.71 and 2.49 , respectively. However , contents of all constituents of these water are within the drinking water standard. All samples were filtered before the chemical analysis. Pale yellow or yellowish brown colored materials of colloidal particles coated the filter paper to thickness of 0.02 to 0.2mm. these are mainly Fe-Cy-Zn compounds with traces of Ni and Pb, the net weights of which compounds range from 0.01to 3.20mg/l. Most elements did not show any conceivable filtering effect of Cu, Fe and Zn. Especially, mean concentration of total Fe decreased considerably from 168.52${\mu}g$/lto 42.58${\mu}g$/l by filtering .
According to the population increase and industrialization, the drinking water source, Han River and other sources, are contaminated by industrial wastewater, domestic sewage, and agricultural discharges. Among the contaminants, and toxic substances, pesticides is most interesting items (or human health Our drinking water has some problems of THMs, Fe, odor, etc., $o many people use groundwater or bottled water. But sometimes there are many reports about groundwater contamination owing to the agricultural chemicals, waste disposal, industrial wastewater. In America, there are about 45,000 groundwave supply company and in korea about 20% of total population are using groundwave as drinking water source. In America, studies about SEE is increasing Instead of liquid- liquid extraction method, because of many advantages of SEE methods. Author tried to investigate SPE methods in the spiked water samples to compare with liquid- liquid extraction method and got the following results. The amount of organic solvents which are used In SPE method is less than 1/10 compared with liquid- liquid method, the analytical duration time is shortened, and the ethyl acetate was good fluent among several organic solvents.

The objective of the study is to develop life cycle inventory (LCI) database of dam, a major facility for irrigation water supply. The types of database developed are three out of nine dams according to the size of the wate r storage capacity: two kinds larger than 500,000 $m^3$ depending on gate for discharging (Type 1) and the other dam smaller than 500,000 $m^3$ (Type 2). According to the LCI analysis, type 1 larger than 500,000 $m^3$ storage capacity with gate has the lowest environment impact in the 6 impact categories. The impact of the type 1 accounts for 7~35 % of the type 2 for supplying irrigation water. Comparing with the environment impacts of water for other uses such as drinking and industrial water, the impacts of 1 $m^3$ irrigation water supply is 4~45 % of the one for industrial water supply and 1~16 % of the drinking water's. The three types of LCI DB on the irrigation water by dams will be useful in the application of Life Cycle Assessment in agricultural products and environmental labelling including carbon footprint since it is complied to the guidelines of LCI DB constr uction issued by Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Knowledge Economy.
A nationwide survey of 8 N-nitrosamines in finished water samples from drinking water treatment plants (DWTPs) in Korea was conducted. The samples were pre-treated by solid-phase extraction (SPE) and analyzed using a gas chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS). According to the study results, four N-nitrosamines (NDMA, NDEA, NMOR, NDBA) were detected for three consecutive years, NMEA and NPYR were only found in samples collected in 2013. Two of these N-nitrosamines, N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) and N-nitrosodiethylamine (NDEA), have received attention and were the most commonly detected. The concentration of NDMA and NDEA in this study ranged from $0.002{\mu}g/L$ to $0.013{\mu}g/L$ and in $0.001{\mu}g/L$ to $0.008{\mu}g/L$, respectively. In comparison to studies performed in EPA(UCMR2), the concentrations of NDMA (from $0.002{\mu}g/L$ to $0.630{\mu}g/L$) and NDEA (from $0.005{\mu}g/L$ to $0.100{\mu}g/L$) observed in the this study were low.

Objectives: Although water is essential for life and can supply essential minerals, studies that evaluate calcium intake through drinking water are limited. The aim of this study was to assess calcium contents of natural mineral water (NMW) and its possible contribution to calcium intake in healthy adults. Methods: This study examined water consumption in 640 Korean adults with self-selected diet, analyzed the calcium content of 10 different brands of bottled NMWs sold in Korea, and assessed the amount of calcium intake from drinking water and its daily contribution to the recommended nutrient intake (RNI) of calcium. Results: Mean calcium content in 10 bottled NMWs was 20.9 mg/l. Daily water intakes from food composition database and calculated using energy intake based on 0.53 ml/kcal were 957.2 ml and 1109.8 ml for men and 848.3 ml and 951.6 ml for women, respectively, with a significant difference by gender (p<0.001). Daily drinking water intake was significantly higher among men than women (1203.9 ml vs. 1004.3 ml, respectively, p<0.001). Daily calcium intakes from foods were 564.0 mg for men and 534.2 mg for women. Daily possible calcium intakes from drinking bottled water were 25.2 mg for men and 21.0 mg for women (p<0.001). The contribution of daily calcium intake from drinking bottled water to RNI of calcium was 3.3% for men and 2.9% for women without significant difference. Conclusions: One half of the daily total water intake was consumed as drinking water, and possible calcium intake through drinking water was about 3% of RNI.
