Energy dissipation systems increase the energy dissipation capacity of buildings considerably. In this study, the effect of dampers on a typical 10-storey reinforced concrete structure with a ductile moment-resisting frame was investigated. In this context, 5 different models were created according to the calculation of the slip load and the positions of the dampers in the structure. Nonlinear time-history analyzes using 11 different earthquake acceleration records were performed on the models using the ETABS program. As a result of the analyses, storey displacements, energy dissipation ratios, drift ratios, storey accelerations, storey shears, and hysteretic curves of the dampers on the first and last storey and overturning moments are presented. In the study, it was determined that friction dampers increased the energy dissipation capacities of all models. In addition, it has been determined that positioning the dampers in the outer region of the structures and taking the base shear as a basis in the slip load calculation will be more effective.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the capacities of repaired structural walls with different shear span ratios(1, 2, 3). Experimental tests were carried out. In this study three isolated large-scale wall specimens were made. The original wall specimens were tested until the drift reaches more than 3%. The region of the damaged specimen with the crack larger than 0.2 mm is replaced by new concrete. Also, severly distorted reinforcements were also replaced by new reinforcements. The crack smaller than 0.2 mm was cured by epoxy resin. Because of the space limitation of the laboratory the dimensions of all walls are the same. The shear-span ratio was controlled by the combination of axial and lateral force using the special test setting. All specimens were tested using the incremental quasi static cyclic load until failure occurs. Test results show that strength of repaired walls was almost equivalent to that of original walls. However, deformation capacities of repaired wall specimens are inferior to the original wall specimens.
Seismic-design procedures for walls require that the confinement in the critical (plastic hinge) regions should extend over a length in the compression zone of the cross section at the wall base where concrete strains in the Ultimate Limit State (ULS) exceed the limit of 0.0035. In a performance-based framework, confinement is linked to required curvature ductility so that the drift demand at the performance point of the structure for the design earthquake may be met. However, performance of flexural walls in the recent earthquakes in Chile (2010) and Christchurch (2011) indicates that the actual compression strains in the critical regions of many structural walls were higher than estimated, being responsible for several of the reported failures by toe crushing. In this study, the method of estimating the confined region and magnitude of compression strain demands in slender walls are revisited. The objective is to account for a newly identified kinematic interaction between the normal strains that arise in the compression zone, and the lumped rotations that occur at the other end of the wall base due to penetration of bar tension yielding into the supporting anchorage. Design charts estimating the amount of yield penetration in terms of the resulting lumped rotation at the wall base are used to quantify the increased demands for compression strain in the critical section. The estimated strain increase may exceed by more than 30% the base value estimated from the existing design expressions, which explains the frequently reported occurrence of toe crushing even in well confined slender walls under high drift demands. Example cases are included in the presentation to illustrate the behavioral parametric trends and implications in seismic design of walls.

In this study, we fabricated the semiconductor laser for optical sensor with 1.55${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$wavelength region. In order to suppress lasing oscillation and to reduce the reflectivity, the devices of bending type were designed and fabricated. Their output power were 1.6㎽ at a pulse drive current of 100㎃. When the fabricated device was applied to optical fiber gyroscope, the output power of optical fiber was 540㎻ at a CW drive current of 100㎃, the full width at half maximum spectral width was 53nm. And the random-walk coefficient was measured to be 2.5$\times$10$^3$deg/√hr, the gyro output drift was also found to be 0.3 deg/hr. So we confirmed the possibility of application to use for light source of optical fiber gyroscope.

A two-dimensional linear method has been developed for the motion and the second-order steady force arising from the hydrodynamic coupling between waves and currents in the presence of a body of arbitrary shape. Interaction between the incident wave and current in the absence of the body lies in the realm beyond our interest. A Fredholm integral equation of the second kind is employed in association with the Haskind's potential for a steadily moving source of pulsating strength located in or below the free surface. The numerical calculations at the preliminary stage showed a significant fluctuation of the hydrodynamic forces on the surface-piercing body. The problem is approximately solved by using the asymptotic Green function for $U^2{\rightarrow}0$. The original Green function, however, is applied for the fully submerged body. Numerical calculations are made for a submerged and for a half-immersed circular cylinder and extensively for the mid-ship section of a Lewis-form. Some of the results are compared with other analytical results without any available experimental data. The current has strong influence on roll motion near resonance. When the current opposes the waves, the roll response are generally negligible in the low frequency region. The current has strong influence on roll motion near resonance. When the current opposes the wave, the roll response decreases. When the current and wave come from the same direction, the roll response increases significantly, as the current speed increases. The mean drift forces and moment on the submerged body are more affected by current than those on the semi-immersed circular cylinder or on the ship-like section in the encounter frequency domain.
This paper presents the orbital control for positioning micro synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellites for all-weather monitoring around the Korean Peninsula. In Small SAR technology experimental project (S-STEP) developed in Korea, multiple satellites are placed at equal intervals in multiple orbital planes to secure an average revisit period for the region around the Korean Peninsula. Satellites entering the same orbital plane use ion thrusters to control their orbits and the separation velocity from the launch vehicle to distribute them evenly across the orbit. For an orbital that places the satellites equally spaced in the same orbital plane, the shape of the satellite constellation is formed by adjusting the difference in drift rates between the satellites. This paper presents, different types of satellite constellations, and the results of satellite constellation placement according to launch strategies are presented. In addition, a method and limitations in shortening the duration of orbital deployment are presented.

By analyzing the observations from a number of ground- and space-based instruments, including ionosonde, magnetometers, and ACE interplanetary data, we examine the response of the ionospheric TEC over Korea during 2003 magnetic storms. We found that the variation of vertical TEC is correlated with the southward turning of the interplanetary magnetic field $B_z$. It is suggested that the electric fields produced by the dynamo process in the high-latitude region and the prompt penetration in the low- latitude region are responsible for TEC increases. During the June 16 event, dayside TEC values increase more than 15%. And the ionospheric F2-layer peak height (hmF2) was ${\sim}300km$ higher and the vertical $E{\times}B$ drift (estimated from ground-based magnetometer equatorial electrojet delta H) showed downward drift, which may be due to the ionospheric disturbance dynamo electric field produced by the large amount of energy dissipation into high-latitude regions. In contrast, during November 20 event, the nightside TEC increases may be due to the prompt penetration westward electric field. The ionospheric F2-layer peak height was below 200km and the vertical $E{\times}B$ drift showed downward drift. Also, a strong correlation is observed between enhanced vertical TEC and enhaaced interplanetary electric field. It is shown that, even though TEC increases are caused by the different processes, the electric field disturbances in the ionosphere play an important role in the variation of TEC over Korea.

Stokes drift(SD) and Lagrangian discharge(LD) are important factors for analysis of flushing time, tidal exchange, solute transport and pollutant dispersion. The factors should be calculated using the approached method to flow phenomena. The aim of this paper re-examines the previous procedures for computing the SD and LD, and is to propose the new method approached to stratified flow field in the cross-section of coastal region, e.g. Masan Bay. The intensity of velocity near the bottom boundary layer(BBL) depends on the sea-bed irregularity in the coastal estuaries. So we calculated the depth mean velocity(DMV) considering that of BBL omitted in Kjerfve's calculation method. It revealed that BBL effect resulting in application of the bay acts largely on DMV in half more among 1l stations. The new expression of SD and LD per unit width in the cross-section using the developed DMV and proposed decomposition procedure of current were derived as follow : $$Q=u_0+\frac{1}{2}H_1{U_1cos(\varphi_h-\varphi_u)+U_3cos(\varphi_h-\varphi{ud})} LD ED SD$(Q_{skim}+Q_{sk2}) The third term, $Q_{sk2}$, on the right-hand of the equation is showed newly and arise from vertical oscillatory shear. According to the results applied in 3 cross-sections including 11 stations of the bay, the volume difference between proposed and previous SD was founded to be almost 2 times more at some stations. But their mean transport volumes over all stations are 18% less than the previous SD. Among two terms of SD, the flux of second term, $Q_{skim}$, is larger than third term, $Q_{sk2}$, in the main channel of cross-section, so that $Q_{skim}$ has a strong dependence on the tidal pumping, whereas third term is larger than second in the marginal channel. It means that $Q_{sk2}$ has trapping or shear effect more than tidal pumping phenomena. Maximum range of the fluctuation in LD is 40% as compared with the previous equations, but mean range of it is showed 11% at all stations, namely, small change. It mean that two components of SD interact as compensating flow. Therefore, the computation of SD and LD depend on decomposition procedure of velocity component in obtaining the volume transport of temporal and spacial flow through channels. The calculation of SD and LD proposed here can separate the shear effect from the previous SD component, so can be applied to non-uniform flow condition of cross-section, namely, baroclinic flow field.

To understand the drift-diffusion of HAB(Harmful Algal Bloom) in this paper, we used three-dimensional hydrodynamic model POM(Pringceton Ocean Model) and Lagrangian particle track module. First, the results of residual flow that considered tide, wind, temperature, salinity, and TWC(Tsushima Warm Current) effect was tend to northeast in the coastal area and the flow in the offshore region showed results similar to TWC. To understand of HAB's movement, released each area that southern Kamak bay(Case 1), Mijo coast(Case 2), and southern Mireukdo coast(Case 3) assumption that red tide occurred. The areas where the HAB occurs frequently. As a result of HAB occurred in southern Kamak Bay(Case 1), mainly drifts to Narodo coast and Yeoja bay that located on the west side. Case 2 was mainly drifts to Yokjido coast and Saryangdo coast Especially, HAB occurred in Mireukdo coast(Case 3) relatively many particles drift to eastward as the influence of the TWC.

A two-dimensional shallow-water flow around a cavity driven by a sinusoidally oscillating external flow was studied numerically. A container model of "T" shape was constructed in the numerical computation for comparison with the experimental observation. The numerical computation shows that the aspect ratio of the cavity is not much affecting the overall flow pattern, and for the aspect ratio 2, the deep region of the cavity has a stagnant flow motion. At larger Reynolds number, the flow field is characterized by many small vortices which are not present in the flow visualization. The flow pattern in the external region is in good agreement with the experimentally recorded particle trajectories. It turns out that two large coherent vortices situated in the exterior region of the cavity are responsible for clockwise and counterclockwise drift motions, in large scale, of particles.particles.
