Circular Drawbead Forming and Drawing Characteristics for Welded Sheets (용접된 판재에 대한 원형 드로비드 성형 및 인출 특성)

  • Circular drawbead forming and drawing characteristics of CO2 laser welded SPC1 blanks are investigated by experiments and numerical analysis. During the drawbead forming process, the distributions of major strain on upper and lower skins of the specimens are measured. During the drawing process, the drawing forces and the strain distributions are investigated. For the numerical analysis. DYNA3D and SGTAS, a developed rigid-plastic finite-element computer program are used. Numerical results predicted the deformation characteristics well in comparison with experiments. It is concluded that the strains and restraining forces during the forming and the drawing processes show different patterns according to the combination of welded blanks.

  • In the sheet metal forming process, the drawbead is used to control the flow of material during the forming process. The drawbead provides proper restraining force to the material and prevents defects such as wrinkling or breakage. For these reasons, many studies for designing the effective drawbead have been conducted. For the analysis, the numerical method called the static-explicit finite element method was used. The finite element analysis code for this method has been developed and applied to the drawbead process problems. In result, convergence problem and computation time due to large non-linearity in the existing numerical analysis methods were no longer a critical problem. Futhermore, this approach could treat the contact friction problem easily by applying very small time intervals. It is expected that various results from the numerical analysis will give very useful information for the design of tools in sheet metal forming process.

  • The drawbead is one of the most important factors in sheet metal forming for automotive parts. So clarifying the friction characteristics between sheets and drawbead is essential to improve the formability of sheet metal. Therefore in this study, drawbead friction test was performed at various bead materials(FC300, HC891, FCD550, HD700, HK600, HK700, SKD11) and surface treatment of beads(Base, induction hardening, Cr plating, ion nitriding, Toyoda diffusion process, TiCN, TiN, CrN). Circular shape bead has been used for the test. The results show that friction and drawing characteristics were mainly influenced by surface treatment.

  • A simplified numerical procedure to predict drawbead restraining forces(DBRF) has been developed based on the hybrid membrane/bending method which superposes bending effects onto membrane solutions. As a semi-analytical method, the new approach is especially useful to analyze the effects of various constitutive parameters. The present model can accommodate general anisotropic yield functions along with non-linear isotropic-kinematic hardening under the plane strain condition. For the preliminary results, several sensitivity analyses for the process and material effects such as friction, drawbead depth, hardening behavior including the Bauschinger effect and yield surface shapes on the DBRF are carried out.

  • The drawbead is one of the most important factors in sheet metal forming for automotive parts. So clarifying the friction characteristics between sheets and drawbead is essential to improve the formability of sheet metal. Therefore in this study, drawbead friction test was performed at circular shape bead and rectangular shape bead. The results show that the tendency of drawing force for rectangular bead is nearly similar with circular bead and the drawing force is nearly proportional to friction coefficient.

  • In this study, the drawing characteristics of circular drawbead are examined with the plane strain elastic-plastic FE Method. Both the clamping load and the drawing load investigated by varying the process variables such as drawbead radius, closing depth and friction condition. The effective strain induced by the draw bead is also investigated. In order to verify the results, the computed results are compared with the existing experimental results. It has been found that both the clamping load and drawing loads are related with the geometry of the bead rather than the lubrication conditions.

  • A novel set of experimental test tooling for measuring pulling and holding forces for drawbeads on binders inclined at a wide range of angles is introduced. A mechanical design featuring a single load cell, a male-female draw bead set, translation and rotation degrees of freedom, and a screw-driven clamping system has been incorporated into a standard tensile test machine. On a real time basis, restraining and holding force data with respect to draw-in displacement may be directly downloaded into a PC for data processing. The proposed experimental system represents a significant breakthrough in drawbead simulation technology due to its relatively low cost, clever design, and versatility. The system is shown to yield excellent experimental data suitable for verifying theory and numerical model predictions.

  • The sheet formability can be improved by the optimum drawbeads installation because draw-beads can control the flow of the metal into the die cavity when the punch enters into the die opening, In this study the drawing characteristics for step drawbead are analyzed by 2-D rigid -plastic FEM and also are measured experimentally. In addition for the validity of FEM theoretical results are compared with the experimental results. Especially the draw bead restrain-ing forces and the strain distributions of drawn specimens are obtained in both FEM and experiment. Also the effects of the drawbead dimensions drawing angles and blank holding forces on the drawing characteristics are investigated.

  • In sheet metal forming, drawbeads are often used to control uneven material flow, which may cause defects such as wrinkles, fractures, surface distortion and springback. Appropriate setting and adjusting of the drawbead force is one of the most important parameters in sheet forming process control. Therefore in this study, drawbead test was performed at various bead surface treatment conditions to clarify the frictional characteristics between sheet and drawbead. Furthermore, the differences in drawing force between circular and rectangular shape beads have also been measured to estimate the effectiveness of bead shape on the material flow control. The results show that drawing and friction characteristic were strongly influenced by surface treatments of bead and bead shapes.
