한국의 멸종위기종인 꼬마잠자리 (Nannophya pygmaea Rambur: 잠자리과, 잠자리목) 유충의 성장률 (Laval Growth Rate of Nannophya pygmaea(Odonata: Libellulidae), an Endangered Dragonfly in Korea)

  • 본 연구에서는 꼬마잠자리 유충의 성장률을 밝히고자 인공습지서식처를 조성하고 자연개체군을 이식하여 실험하였다. 인공서식처는 꼬마잠자리가 서식하고 있는 충남 보령시의 자연서식처를 모방하여 온실(비닐하우스)안에 조성하였다. 2007년 6월에 300개체의 꼬마잠자리 유충을 인공서식처에 도입하였으며, 2007년 6월부터 2008년 11월까지 유충의 체장을 측정하고자 5차례의 재포획을 실시하였다. 실험의 결과, 처음 개체군과 재포획 개체군(재포획 I, II, III, IV, V 개체군)에서 모두 체장의 크기가 2개의 그룹으로 나뉘어졌다[처음 개체군 6.20$\pm$0.34 mm 및 7.94$\pm$0.46 mm (평균$\pm$분산); 재포획 I 12.84$\pm$0.43 mm 및 5.16$\pm$0.83 mm; 재포획 II 5.96$\pm$0.66 mm 및 8.02$\pm$0.35 mm; 재포획 III 5.97$\pm$0.73 mm 및 7.82$\pm$0.37 mm; 재포획 IV 7.04$\pm$0.93 mm 및 8.52$\pm$0.39 mm; 재포획 V 5.72$\pm$0.60 mm 및 7.71$\pm$0.30 mm]. 본 실험의 결과는 재포획 I$\sim$V의 개체군은 처음 개체군의 자손이며, 이들은 온일도가 470 일 때 약 3mm성장한 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 꼬마잠자리의 성장률은 온일도가 100일 때 약 0.7 mm 자라는 것으로 추정된다.

주남습지에 서식하는 잠자리와 주변환경과의 관계 (The Relationship between the Dragonfly Diversity and the Environmental Factors in the Juam Wetland)

  • 주남습지에 서식하는 잠자리와 서식 환경과의 관계를 알아보기 위하여 2015년 5월과 7월에 20개 조사구를 대상으로 잠자리 종과 개체수를 조사하였다. 환경요인으로는 정수식물 면적, 부유 부엽식물 면적, 수면 면적, 수생식물면적, 교목 피도, 주변 토지이용유형, 향을 조사하여 잠자리 종과 개체수, 다양성지수 등과의 관계 등을 분석하였다. 주남습지에서 확인된 잠자리는 총 6과 21종 757개체였다. 부유 부엽식물 면적과 수면면적은 잠자리군집 다양성에 영향을 주었으며 특히 부유 부엽식물 면적은 종수, 수면면적은 우점도에 정의 상관관계를 보였다. 수면면적은 종다양성지수, 균재도와 음의 상관관계를 보였다. 주변 토지이용유형 중 밭이나 과수원은 습지지역보다 평균 종수가 낮았으며, 향이나 교목의 피도는 잠자리 군집에 영향을 주지 않았다. 종별로 보면, 등검은실잠자리와 고추잠자리 등은 부유 부엽식물과 양의 상관관계를 보였다. 왕실잠자리와 산잠자리는 수면면적과 양의 상관관계였고, 아시아실잠자리와 연분홍실잠자리는 음의 상관관계를 보였다. 최근 주남습지는 연군락이 증가하여 식물종과 밀접한 관계를 가진 잠자리 종 구성에 큰 영향을 미칠 것으로 보인다.

  • 고추잠자리 複眼의 망막의 미세구조가 전자현미경적으로 연구되었다. 個眼의 綱膜層을 이루고 있는 細胞의 數는 모두 8個이나, 이는 綱膜層에 따라 그 수를 달리한다. 따라서 綱膜細胞의 수에 의해 망막층은 三分되며, 中間層의 基部綱膜細胞는 부근의 두 感桿體를 연결하고 있다. 세 개의 感桿體가 서로 $120^{\circ}$의 각도를 갖고, 융합되어 이루어진 감간체는 횡단면에서 삼각형을 이루고 있으며 絨毛突起는 外心을 둘러싸고 전자밀도가 다른 두 부분으로 나누어진다. 전자밀도가 약한 내부 絨毛突起는 세포질과 서로 通하고 있다. 粗面小胞體는 綱膜세포의 端部에서 空胞와 연결되고 있으며 수많은 미토콘드리아는 세포의 中間部位에 산재되어 있다. 圓錐晶體는 4個의 圓錐세포로서 구성되며 주위에는 많은 색소세포가 존재한다.

조선시대 민화 <연화도> 콘텐츠를 활용한 문화상품 개발 (Development of Cultural Products Based on Minhwa of the Joseon Dynasty - Focusing on Lotus Flower Painting -)

  • This study aims to collect Minhwa, or folk painting, particularly the Lotus Flower Painting, to analyze its formative characteristics and related story, and to develop cultural fashion products by utilizing Korean traditional culture and modern flavor based on the results. Lotus flowers grow from mud, but are unstained, and they bloom beautiful flowers. Thus, they symbolize Gunja, a true gentleman who is very learned and proper in behavior. In Buddhism, lotus flowers are divine flowers that have the meaning of the creation of life and the eternal cycle of birth, death and rebirth. Lotus flowers also represent the love between man and woman as well as conjugal harmony and love. Lotus flower painting includes the paintings of the lotus flower alone as well as the paintings of the lotus flower with ducks, white heron, kingfisher, fish, butterfly, crab, or tortoise. Colors that are mostly used in lotus flower paintings is the compatible combination of red and blue (green). Based on these findings, fashion products such as bag accessories, sitting cushions, and kitchen utensils are developed using various designs such as realistically drawn lotus flower, schematized lotus flower, the lotus flower alone, or the lotus flower with kingfisher, crab, or dragonfly, that emphasizing the compatible color combination of red and blue.

A novel WOA-based structural damage identification using weighted modal data and flexibility assurance criterion

  • Structural damage identification (SDI) is a crucial step in structural health monitoring. However, some of the existing SDI methods cannot provide enough identification accuracy and efficiency in practice. A novel whale optimization algorithm (WOA) based method is proposed for SDI by weighting modal data and flexibility assurance criterion in this study. At first, the SDI problem is mathematically converted into a constrained optimization problem. Unlike traditional objective function defined using frequencies and mode shapes, a new objective function on the SDI problem is formulated by weighting both modal data and flexibility assurance criterion. Then, the WOA method, due to its good performance of fast convergence and global searching ability, is adopted to provide an accurate solution to the SDI problem, different predator mechanisms are formulated and their probability thresholds are selected. Finally, the performance of the proposed method is assessed by numerical simulations on a simply-supported beam and a 31-bar truss structures. For the given multiple structural damage conditions under environmental noises, the WOA-based SDI method can effectively locate structural damages and accurately estimate severities of damages. Compared with other optimization methods, such as particle swarm optimization and dragonfly algorithm, the proposed WOA-based method outperforms in accuracy and efficiency, which can provide a more effective and potential tool for the SDI problem.

Infection status of dragonflies with Plagiorchis muris metacercariae in Korea

  • Plagiorchis muris has been found in both been found in both house and field rats as well as in humans. The infection status of th second intermediate hosts of P.muris is prerequisite in understanding their biological features in an ecosystem. Six species of dragonflies were caught in a wide range of areas in Korea;and they were Sympertrum darwinianum, S.eroticum, S. pedomontanum, S. infuscatum, Pantala flavoscens, Caloteryx atrata, and Othertrum albistylum speciosum. The occurrence of P. muris metacercariae in dragonflies was nationwide with various infection rates. The metacercarial burden of P. muris in the surveyed areas was the highest in S. eroticum followed by S. darwinianum, S. pedomontanum, and C. atrata. The highest infection rate by P. muris metacercariae was found in S. darwinianum followed by S. eroticum. The metacercarial buredn was particularly heavy in the dragonflies found in Hamyang-gun and Kosong-gun, Kyongsangnam-do. It is, therefore, likely that dragonflies play a significant role as the second intermediate hose in the life cycle of P. muris in Korea.

Identification of bird species and their prey using DNA barcode on feces from Korean traditional village groves and forests (maeulsoop)

  • A DNA barcode based on 648 bp of cytochrome c oxidase I (COI) gene aims to build species-specific libraries for animal groups. However, it is hard to recover full-length (648 bp) barcode gene from environmental fecal samples due to DNA degradation. In this study, we designed a new primer set (K_Bird), which amplifies a 226 bp fragment targeted an inner position of full-length COI barcode based on 102 species of Korean birds to improve amplification success, and we attempted to identify bird species from 39 avian fecal samples collected during 4 months from Jinan, South Korea. Simultaneously, we conducted a dietary analysis using a universal DNA mini-barcode (Uni_Minibar) from same fecal samples. In silico analysis on newly designed mini-barcode represented that genetic distances were 0.5% in species and 9.1% in genera. Intraspecific variations of 149 species out of 174 species (86%) between Korea and North America were within the threshold (5.3% threshold in this study). From environmental fecal samples collected in Jinan, we identified seven avian species, which have high similarity (99-100%) with registered COI sequences in GenBank. Eight kinds of prey species, such as moth, spider, fly, and dragonfly, were identified in dietary analysis. We suppose that our strategy applying mini-barcode for environmental fecal samples, might be a useful and convenient tool for species identification and dietary analysis for birds.

멸종위기야생생물 II급인 꼬마잠자리(Nannophya pygmaea)와 서식처의 보호 및 보존 조치에 관한 제언 (Suggestions for Protecting and Preserving the Level II Endangered Species Nannophya pygmaea in Korea)

  • Nannophya pygmaea (commonly known as the scarlet dwarf dragonfly) was designated as an endangered species, level II, by the Ministry of Environment of Korea in 1994; it has been used as a flagship species for the protection and preservation of wetlands. Over 25 sites in Korea have been identified as the habitat of Nannophya pygmaea. However, most of these habitats have proven to be unstable, and there have been subsequent changes in the assemblage structure and organization. Most habitats changed to become grasslands or plain ground, and now only five habitats remain. Although efforts have been made to protect the Nannophya pygmaea as an endangered species, their habitat loss has increased, caused by natural succession and drought. Therefore, we need to make stronger protections in the preservation manual of level II endangered species, particularly Nannophya pygmaea, and its native habitats in Korea.

Control of runner reed (Phragmites japonicus) in lentic wetlands

  • In lotic wetlands, runner reed (Phragmites japonicus) plays a role as a pioneer, which helps other plant species to settle by making dense roots trapping floating-sediments. In lentic wetlands, on the other hand, P. japonicus could play a role as an invader threatening biodiversity by forming tall and dense stands. To conserve an abandoned paddy terrace in mountainous areas, a habitat of an endangered dragonfly species (Nannophya pygmaea), from the monotypic-occupation by P. japonicus, we applied three kinds of treatment: (1) hand-clipping in 2009, (2) mechanical excavating in 2012, and (3) planting of alternative vegetational unit in 2012. We have monitored vegetation changes in the wetland in 2008~2012 and 2017. Vegetation cover of P. japonicus sharply decreased from 43% in 2011 to 16% in 2012 by the mechanical excavation. After 5 years from applying the treatment, Schoenoplectiella mucronata that was utilized in the planting became the predominant species instead of P. japonicus and the number of wetland plant species increased from 16 to 25 with the shift in species composition. This study showed the utility of three control methods of P. japonicas in a lentic wetland.

Predicting the rock fragmentation in surface mines using optimized radial basis function and cascaded forward neural network models

  • The prediction and achievement of a proper rock fragmentation size is the main challenge of blasting operations in surface mines. This is because an optimum size distribution can optimize the overall mine/plant economics. To this end, this study attempts to develop four improved artificial intelligence models to predict rock fragmentation through cascaded forward neural network (CFNN) and radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) models. In this regards, the CFNN was trained by the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm (LMA) and Conjugate gradient backpropagation (CGP). Further, the RBFNN was optimized by the Dragonfly Algorithm (DA) and teaching-learning-based optimization (TLBO). For developing the models, the database required was collected from the Midouk copper mine, Iran. After modeling, the statistical functions were computed to check the accuracy of the models, and the root mean square errors (RMSEs) of CFNN-LMA, CFNN-CGP, RBFNN-DA, and RBFNN-TLBO were obtained as 1.0656, 1.9698, 2.2235, and 1.6216, respectively. Accordingly, CFNN-LMA, with the lowest RMSE, was determined as the model with the best prediction results among the four examined in this study.
