An experimental study has been carried out in a supersonic blow-down wind tunnel for examining the influence of streamwise vortices on normal shock-wave/boundary layer interaction. It has been reported by the earlier investigator the streamwise vortices generated by the blowing jets can significantly suppress the shock-induced separation and reduce the wave drag. The blowing jets generate the streamwise vortices with 45$^{\circ}$ angle in the spanwise direction. The shock waves are visualized by a Schlieren optical system. Appropriate measurement systems are provided for the characterization of shock wave/boundary layer interaction. The chamber pressure ratio and blowing pressure ratio are varied from 1.5 to 2.4 and 1.0 to 2.0 respectively.

In the present study, the effects of non-equilibrium condensation on the drag divergence Mach number with the angle of attack in a transonic 2D moist air flow of NACA0012 are investigated using the TVD finite difference scheme. For the same ${\alpha}$, the maximum upstream Mach number of the shock wave, Mmax, and the size of supersonic bubble decrease with the increase in ${\Phi}_0$. For the same $M_{\infty}$, ${\Phi}_0$, and $T_0$, the length of the non-equilibrium condensation zone ${\Delta}_z$ decreases with increasing ${\Phi}_0$. On the other hand, because of the attenuating effect of non-equilibrium condensation on wave drag, which is related to the interaction between the shock wave and the boundary layer, the drag coefficient $C_D$ decreases with an increase in ${\Phi}_0$ for the same $M_{\infty}$ and ${\alpha}$. For the same ${\alpha}$, $M_D$ increases with increasing ${\Phi}_0$, while $M_D$ decreases with an increase in ${\alpha}$.
A numerical study is conducted on the flow characteristics of a rectangular cylinder (chord-to-width ratio C/W = 2 - 10) mounted close to a rigid wall at gap-to-width ratios G/W = 0.25 - 6.25. The effects of G/W and C/W on the Strouhal number, vortex structure, and time-mean drag and lift forces are examined. The results reveal that both G/W and C/W have strong influences on vortex structure, which significantly affects the forces on the cylinder. An increase in G/W leads to four different flow regimes, namely no vortex street flow (G/W < 0.75), single-row vortex street flow ($0.75{\leq}G/W{\leq}1.25$), inverted two-row vortex street flow ($1.25<G/W{\leq}2.5$), and two-row vortex street flow (G/W > 2.5). Both Strouhal number and time-mean drag are more sensitive to C/W than to G/W. For a given G/W, Strouhal number grows with C/W while time-mean drag decays with C/W, the growth and decay being large between C/W = 2 and 4. The time-mean drag is largest in the single-row vortex street regime, contributed by a large pressure on the front surface, regardless of C/W. A higher C/W, in general, leads to a higher time-mean lift. The maximum time-mean lift occurs for C/W = 10 at G/W = 0.75, while the minimum time-mean lift appears for C/W = 2 at the same G/W. The impact of C/W on the time-mean lift is more substantial in single-row vortex regime. The effect of G/W on the time-mean lift is larger at a larger C/W.

Piezoelectric actuators have long been recognised for use in aerospace structures for control of structural shape. This paper looks at active control of the swept shock wave/turbulent boundary layer interaction using smart flap actuators. The actuators are manufactured by bonding piezoelectric material to an inert substrate to control the bleed/suction rate through a plenum chamber. The cavity provides communication of signals across the shock, allowing rapid thickening of the boundary layer approaching the shock, which splits into a series of weaker shocks forming a lambda shock foot, reducing wave drag. Active control allows optimum control of the interaction, as it would be capable of positioning the control region around the original shock position and unimorph tip deflection, hence mass transfer rates. The actuators are modelled using classical composite material mechanics theory, as well as a finite element-modelling program (ANSYS 5.7).

A projectile that passes through a shock wave experiences drastic changes in the aerodynamic forces. These sudden changes in the forces are attributed to the wave structures produced by the projectile-shock wave interaction. A computational study using moving grid method is performed to analyze the effect of the projectile-shock wave interaction. Cylindrical and conical projectiles have been employed to study such interactions. This sort of unsteady interaction normally takes place in overtaking blast flow fields. It is found that the overall effect of overtaking a blast wave on the unsteady aerodynamic characteristics is hardly affected by the projectile configurations. However, it is noticed that the projectile configurations do affect the unsteady flow structures and hence the drag coefficient for the conical projectile shows considerable variation from that of the cylindrical projectile. The projectile aerodynamic characteristics, when it interacts with the secondary shock wave, are analyzed. It is also observed that the change in the characteristics of the secondary shock wave during the interaction is different for different projectile configurations.
The present study numerically investigated the influence of the waveform distribution on the tsunami-vegetation interaction using a non-reflected wave generation system for various tsunami waveforms in a two-dimensional numerical wave tank. First, it was possible to determine the wave attenuation mechanism due to the tsunami-vegetation interaction from the spatial waveform, flow field, vorticity field, and wave height distribution. The combination of fluid resistance in the vegetation and a large gap and creates a vortex according to the flow velocity difference in and out of the vegetation zone. Thus, the energy of a tsunami was increasingly reduced, resulting in a gradual reduction in wave height. Compared to existing approximation theories, the double volumetric ratio of the waveform increased the reflection coefficient of the tsunami-vegetation interaction by 34%, while decreasing the transfer coefficient and energy attenuation coefficient by 25% and 13%, respectively. Therefore, the hydraulic characteristics of a tsunami is highly likely to be underestimated if the solitary wave of the approximation theory is applied for the tsunami.

The objective of the present study is to develop a new type of the Ballistic range, called 'two-stage light gas gun'. A computational work has been performed to investigate the aerodynamics of a projectile which is launched from the two-stage light gas gun. A moving coordinate method for a multi-domain technique is employed to simulate unsteady projectile flows with a moving boundary. The effect of a virtual mass is added to the axisymmetric unsteady Euler equation systems. The computed results reasonably capture the major flow characteristics which are generated in launching the projectile supersonically, such as the interaction between the shock wave and the blast wave, the interaction between the vortical flow and the barrel shock, and the steady under-expanded jet. The present computational results properly predict the velocity, acceleration, and drag histories of the projectile.

The flow patterns and dynamic properties of ship's propulsion mechanism of two-stage Weis-Fogh type are studied by the discrete vortex method. In order to study the effects of the interaction of the two wings two cases of the phase differences of the wing's motion are considered the same phase and the reverse phase. The flow patterns by simulations correspond to the photographs obtained by flow visualization and flowfield of the propulsion mechanism which is unsteady and complex is clearly visualized by numerical simulations. The time histories of the thrust an the drag coefficients on the wings are also calculated and the effects of the interaction of the two wings are numerically clarified.
Shock wave interaction with droplet-gas medium is investigated in this paper. In the present computation, the shock wave is initially started in a pure gas and reflected from the wedge to interact with the droplet-ridden gas flows. We used the compressible two-fluid two-phase model that is solved by the two-fluid version of the HLL scheme. The interfacial drag force and heat transfer were included to model the interaction between continuous and dispersed phases. The parametric effect of void fraction on the shock wave reflection in the two-phase media was investigated.
We studied the interaction of 4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) with single stranded poly(dA) using optical spectroscopic methods, including absorption, circular dichroism (CD), and fluorescence spectroscopy. The temperature-dependent conformation of poly(dA) was also investigated. The conformation of poly(dA) varied with temperature, which is explained by the stacking-destacking process of the adenine bases, resulting from the sugar conformation. The hypochromicity and red-shift in the absorption spectroscopy, the lack of CD change in the drag absorption region, and the fluorescence behavior, especially a great accessibility of the I2 quencher to the poly(dA)-bound DAPI, suggest that DAPI binds to the outside of poly(dA). The Job plot for the DAPI-poly(dA) mixture demonstrated that a stoichiometry of one DAPI molecule binds to the one phosphate of poly(dA).
