The paper explores the potential of applicability of Genetic programming approach (GP), adopted in this investigation, to model the combined effects of five independent variables to predict the mini-slump, the plate cohesion meter, the induced bleeding test, the J-fiber penetration value, and the compressive strength at 7 and 28 days of self-compacting slurry infiltrated fiber concrete (SIFCON). The variables investigated were the proportions of limestone powder (LSP) and sand, the dosage rates of superplasticiser (SP) and viscosity modifying agent (VMA), and water-to-binder ratio (W/B). Twenty eight mixtures were made with 10-50% LSP as replacement of cement, 0.02-0.06% VMA by mass of cement, 0.6-1.2% SP and 50-150% sand (% mass of binder) and 0.42-0.48 W/B. The proposed genetic models of the self-compacting SIFCON offer useful modelling approach regarding the mix optimisation in predicting the fluidity, the cohesion, the bleeding, the penetration, and the compressive strength.
Aromatic hydrocarbons can be utilized as carbon and energy sources by some microorganisms at lower concentrations. However, they can also act as stresses to these organisms at higher concentrations. Pseudomonas sp. DJ-12 is capable of degrading 0.5 mM concentration of benzoate and 4-chlorobenzoate (4CBA). In this study, the exposure of Pseudomonas sp. DJ-12 to the pollutant stresses of benzoate and 4CBA at various concentrations was comparatively studied for its cellular responses, including survival tolerance, degradability of the aromatics, and morphological changes. Pseudomonas sp. DJ-12 utilized 0.5 to 1.0mM benzoate and 4CBA as carbon and energy sources for growth. However, the organism could not degrade the aromatics at concentrations of 3 mM or higher, resulting in reduced cell viability due to the destruction of the cell envelopes. Pseudomonas sp. DJ-12 cells produced stress-shock proteins such as DnaK and GroEL when treated with benzoate and 4CBA at concentrations of 0.5mM, or higher as sublethal dosage; Yet, there were differing responses between the cells treated with either benzoate or 4CBA. 4CBA affected the degradability of the cells more critically than benzoate. The DnaK and GroEL stress-shock proteins were produced either by 1mM benzoate with 5 min treatment or by higher concentrations after 10min. The proteins were also induced by 0.5mM 4CBA, however, it needed at least 20min treatment or longer. These results indicate that the chlorination of benzoate increased the recalcitrance of the pollutant aromatics and changed the conditions to lower concentrations and longer treatment times for the production of stress-shock proteins. of stress-shock proteins produced by the aromatics at sublethal concentrations functioned interactively between the aromatics for survival tolerance to lethal concentrations.

Pueraiae Radix (PR), Pueratia Folium (PF) and Sorbus commixta (SC) mixture, namely GS-SP (PR (1)/PF (2)/SC (0.5): v/v/v) was developed as hangover-relieving elixir and its effects on alcoholic metabolism have been investigated. The enzymatic activity of alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) and acetaldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) of GS-SP was shown higher than those of single treatment with PR, PL, SC, and the positive control group (YM-808). The survival rate of mouse liver cell line NCTC clone 1469 in the presence of acetaldehyde was 30.6, 22.2, and 8.7% at the GS-SP dosage level of 50, 100, and 200 μg/mL respectively. Different concentrations of 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg of GS-SP showed efficient activity for ADH and ALDH than YM-808 in rat fed with 25% ethanol. The levels of blood alcohol and acetaldehyde after oral administration of 200 mg/kg of GS-SP showed efficient activity of 11.7% and 37% than those of YM-808. These results have been supported to the potential for GS-SP to serve as an excellent potential in providing hangover relief and liver protection.
In the present work, Arthrobacter sp. 25, a lead-tolerant bacterium, was assayed to remove lead(II) from aqueous solution. The biosorption process was optimized by response surface methodology (RSM) based on the Box-Behnken design. The relationships between dependent and independent variables were quantitatively determined by second-order polynomial equation and 3D response surface plots. The biosorption mechanism was explored by characterization of the biosorbent before and after biosorption using atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The results showed that the maximum adsorption capacity of 9.6 mg/g was obtained at the initial lead ion concentration of 108.79 mg/l, pH value of 5.75, and biosorbent dosage of 9.9 g/l (fresh weight), which was close to the theoretically expected value of 9.88 mg/g. Arthrobacter sp. 25 is an ellipsoidal-shaped bacterium covered with extracellular polymeric substances. The biosorption mechanism involved physical adsorption and microprecipitation as well as ion exchange, and functional groups such as phosphoryl, hydroxyl, amino, amide, carbonyl, and phosphate groups played vital roles in adsorption. The results indicate that Arthrobacter sp. 25 may be potentially used as a biosorbent for low-concentration lead(II) removal from wastewater.
The presence of slime in paper mills is practically universal. Many researches have been performed for many years to resolve the problem caused by the slime in pulp and paper mill. Many papers have been published to show the bacteria is a major cause of paper mill slime. Now that the recycling of the water has been increased and the regulations of a toxic chemical dosage have become more strengthen, the importance of the control of slime in pulp and paper mill recently has been more recognized. Therefore, to produce quality products at the lowest economic and environmental costs, a through study of the microbial ecology and the indentification of troublesome slime-forming bacteria is a quite necessary. The purpose of this paper is to indentify slime~forming bacteria isolated from the papermaking process. The samples were taken from four parts of making fine paper : machine chest, head box, wire part, white water tank. Machine chest showed the most numbers of bacteria, numbering $2.55{\times}10^7$. The different colony types were taken from the 105 dilution plate. Nine bacteria were identified u sing the Biolog system and the vitek system: 6 gram-negative bacteria, 3 gram-positive bacteria. They are Pseudomonas paucimobilis B., Staphylococcus sp., Acinetobacter calcoaceticus., Pseudomonas cepacia, Actinobaci1lus capsulatus, Acidovorax sp., Flavobacterium sp., and Staphylococcus auricularis in addition to one unidentified sp., Among them. Pseudomonas paucimobillis was found in all places where the samples were taken. And, each parts had the different predominant bacteria in it : Pseudomonas paucimobilis B. in machine chest, Acinetobactor calcoaceticus. in Wire Part and Staphylococcus sp. in head box.

This paper is to investigate the shrinkage properties of high performance concrete (HPC) with mixture adjustment by using mock-up specimens. HPC with mixture adjustment needed a higher dosage of SP agent due to fluidity reduction and a larger dosage of AE agent due to the reduction of air content. Setting time of HPC with mixture adjustment exhibited earlier than that of control HPC by as much as 6 hours. HPC with mixture adjustment gained more than 70MPa of compressive strength. Autogenous shrinkage of Control HPC was found to be $-340\times40^{-6}$ at 49days when the expansion value by thermal effect was excluded and HPC with mixture adjustment $-175\times10^{-6}$, which was the half of the value of control HPC. Drying shrinkage of center section of HPC with mixture adjustment showed similar tendency with autogenous shrinkage because of no internal moisture movement, while surface section had larger drying shrinkage. The specimen embedded with reinforcing bar had smaller deformation caused by confinement of reinforcing bar.
Background: Moderate sedation is an integral part of dental care delivery. Target-controlled infusion (TCI) has the potential to improve patient safety and outcome. We compared the effects of using TCI to administer remifentanil/manual bolus midazolam with manual bolus fentanyl/midazolam administration on patient safety parameters, drug administration times, and patient recovery times. Methods: In this retrospective chart review, records of patients who underwent moderate intravenous sedation over 12 months in a private dental clinic were assessed. Patient indicators (pre-, intra-, and post-procedure noninvasive systolic and diastolic blood pressure, respiration, and heart rate) were compared using independent t-test analysis. Patient recovery time, procedure length, and midazolam dosage required were also compared between the two groups. Results: Eighty-five patient charts were included in the final analysis: 47 received TCI-remifentanil/midazolam sedation, and 38 received manual fentanyl/midazolam sedation. Among the physiological parameters, diastolic blood pressure showed slightly higher changes in the fentanyl group (P = 0.049), respiratory rate changes showed higher changes in the fentanyl group (P = 0.032), and the average EtCO2 was slightly higher in the remifentanil group (P = 0.041). There was no significant difference in the minimum SpO2 levels and average procedure length between the fentanyl and remifentanil TCI pump groups (P > 0.05). However, a significant difference was observed in the time required for discharge from the chair (P = 0.048), indicating that patients who received remifentanil required less time for discharge from the chair than those who received fentanyl. The dosage of midazolam used in the fentanyl group was 0.487 mg more than that in the remifentanil group; however, the difference was not significant (P > 0.05). Conclusion: The combination of TCI administered remifentanil combined with manual administered midazolam has the potential to shorten the recovery time and reduce respiration rate changes when compared to manual administration of fentanyl/midazolam. This is possibly due to either the lower midazolam dosage required with TCI remifentanil administration or achieving a stable, steady-state low dose remifentanil concentration for the duration of the procedure.
Zeta potential is a key parameter of double layer repulsion for individual particles and can usually be used to interpret the trend of coagulation efficiency. This study focused on the measurement of zeta potential of algae and clay under various experimental conditions including water characteristics (pure water, stream water, reservoir water) and coagulant dose (10~50 mg/L). Results showed that the variation of zeta potential was highly sensitive depending on the water characteristics and coagulation conditions. Zeta potential of two genera of algae (anabaena sp. and microcystis sp.) were changed highly with coagulant dosage, especially. On the basis of trajectory analysis, bubble-floc collision efficiency simulated in terms of zeta potential was fitted well with removal efficiency of chlorophyll-a from algae particles. It was found that the control of zeta potential was important for effective removal of algae particles.

This paper is to investigate the effect of W/B, blend ratio of crushed sand with sea sand on fluidity and strength properties of high strength concrete utilizing crushed sand. W/B set up 0.25, 0.30, 0.35 and the blend ratio of crushed sand with sea sand set up 0:100, 30:70, 50:50, 70:30, 100:0 The results of this study are summarized as the follows; 1) The increase of the blend rate of crushed sand, affected on the enhancement of flow, the increase of dosage of SP and water content, but the decrease S/a 2) Compressive strength is increased when crushed sand $30\~70\%$ was replaced with sea sand. 3) The optimal replacement percentage of crushed sand is $50\%$ with sea sand.
Establishment of test methods to assess the fresh properties of self-compacting concrete (SCC) are required to ensure the homogeneity in fresh and hardened states. This paper discusses the suitability of a simple test method for assessing the slump flow and stability of SCC by testing on self-compacting mortar (SCM) fraction. The proposed test method aims at investigating slump flow diameter test and sieve stability test of SCC by testing SCM fraction with a plunger penetration apparatus. A central composite modeling design was performed to evaluate the effects of water/cement ratio (W/C), superplasticizer dosage (SP) and powder marble content (MP) on slump flow diameter, stability and plunger penetration test of fresh SCC. The responses of the derived statistical models are slump flow (Sf), sieve stability (S) and plunger penetration (P). Relationships obtained in this study show acceptable correlations between plunger penetration test value and slump flow diameter test results and stability. It should note that the developed relationships are very useful to predict slump flow diameter and stability of studied SCC mixtures by carrying out a simple plunger penetration test on its mortar, which can save labour and time in laboratory experiments.
