가압.가열처리한 자작나무 적층재의 물성과 생활용품 활용방안 연구 (A Study on the Utilization for Living Products and Properties of Betula platyphylla Laminated Wood Manufactured by Pressing and Heating)

  • The objective of this study was to increase the utilizability of domestic thinning and small diameter wood as applying in pattern design which can be used in interior decoration, wood craft and wood furniture, and in developing the designs of furniture and household items. We investigated the physical and mechanical characteristics of Betula platyphylla Wood by pressurization and heat treatment. Color change is clear, and the wood density is increased with increasing pressing rate. The compressive strength, modulus of rupture and modulus of elasticity in bending strength are decreased as heating time is increased after pressing. However, shrinkage is improved after pressing and heating.

  • This study was investigated to sensible characteristic and physical characteristic to estimate value of the craft for Pinus densiflora and Pinus densiflora for. erecta Uyeki wood. The sensual characteristics of wood are evaluated by wood figure, wood grain, odor, and the physical characteristics by weathering, abrasion, surface roughness and hardness. The wood figure of these species were observed at flat grain in the radial section and edge grain in the tangential section. Also, burl's figure was observed in Burl of Pinus densiflora wood. Pinus densiflora for. erecta Uyeki wood had volatile aroma compounds such as Camphene, Thymyl ether, ${\alpha}$-Longipinene, etc. Pinus densiflora wood had volatile aroma compounds such as ${\alpha}$-Longipinene, (+)-Cedrol, etc. The moisture soption, abrasion, hardness and roughness were very different between the two species.

Introduction of Wooden Kagome Structure to the Furniture Design

  • This study is carried out to introduce the concept of Kagome structure as the new trial for the furniture design and the feasibility of its utilization in furniture industry. Kagome means originally the two dimensional bamboo-basket woven pattern that is composed of interlaced triangles whose lattice points each have four neighboring points, which was used in traditional bamboo craft design like 'Jukbuin(bamboo-wife)'. Its unique truss structure has been widely used by many kinds of the domain of science and engineering in mechanical and architectural industry with some merits, i,e, material utilization efficiency and robust strength. Here we tried to introduce two dimensional and three dimensional form of Kagome which are supposed to be a furniture design elements. Authors think these Kagome design could be realized with domestic lumber of inferior properties. Both of them would be used as a decorative element or mechanical supporter in furniture design.

Estimation of Depth Effect on the Bending Strength of Domestic Japanese Larch Structural Lumber using Weibull Weakest Link Theory

  • The depth effect on bending strength of Japanese larch structural lumber was investigated by using the published data of two different depth lumbers with the same length. Depth effect parameters were derived from Weibull's weakest link theory and compared to the results from other researches. Depth effect on bending strength was significant for No.1 and No.3 lumber, but not insignificant for No.2 lumber. Calculated value of the depth effect adjustment factors was 0.21, 0.11 and 0.22 by lumber grade, respectively. These results were similar to those results from previous researches and supported depth effect on bending strength of lumber. An apparent depth adjustment factor has been proposed to 0.2 in the literatures. Based on this study, depth adjustment factor was considered to 0.2 as a conservative optimum design value that should be incorporated in domestic building code (KBC) for structural lumber.

Comparative Wood Anatomy of Stem and Root in Korean-grown Yellow-poplar (Liriodendron tulipipfera L.)

  • This study was carried out to offer basic information on the wood anatomy of domestic yellow-poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera L.), a new plantation species selected by Korea Forest Service as one of the promising hardwood and bioenergy sources of the future, through comparison of stem wood with root wood in the qualitative and quantitative features. In the qualitative anatomical features, growth rings were distinct in stem wood but relatively less distinct in root wood. And stem wood appeared to have pores in radial multiples of 2 to 5, sometimes clusters but root wood to have pores in radial multiples of 2 to 3, rarely clusters. And numbers of bars in scalariform perforation plates were somewhat numerous in vessel elements of root wood than in those of stem wood. Interestingly, on the other hand, more extraneous materials in the wood rays of tap root than in those of lateral root and stem were confirmed in the chemical composition analyses. In the quantitative anatomical features, pore densities were significantly greater but vessel elements were considerably narrower in stem wood than in root wood. Vessel elements and wood fibers of root wood were considerably longer than those of stem wood. Rays were somewhat more numerous in stem wood than in root wood, and only ray heights of stem wood were more or less greater in cell numbers but both ray heights and widths of stem wood were lower in dimension than those of root wood. The anatomical differences between stem wood and root wood were thought to be associated with different growth environments between the stem above ground and the root below ground.

유럽규격 시험방법에 의한 국산 유용 침엽수재의 천연 내후성 평가 (Evaluation of Natural Decay Durability on Valuable Domestic Softwoods by European Standard Test Method)

  • To evaluate the natural decay durability of valuable domestic softwoods which are used for preservative treatment in our country, we carried out decay test by European standard method. Of all test wood species, Japanese larch (Larix leptolepis) showed slightly high natural decay durability compared to other 4 wood species, Japanese red pine (Pinus densiflora), pitch pine (Pinus rigida), Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica), and scots pine (Pinus sylvestris). However, all of evaluated domestic softwood species in this study caused high weight losses over about 30% in heartwood by test fungus, Poria placenta. We can hardly expect a good natural decay durability from these softwood species. According to the classification of the natural durability of European standard (EN 350-1), they are classified into "Not durable" or "Slightly durable". Therefore, if using these softwoods as exterior materials, we must do preservative treatment to ensure durability.

국산재와 요소수지접착제로 제조된 Com-Ply의 평가 (Evaluation of Com-Ply from Domestic Logs and Urea-Formaldehyde Resin Adhesive)

  • 요소수지접착제를 합판제조용 접착제와 유사하게 실험실에서 합성하고, 합성한 요소수지접착제를 증량제, 충전제, 산경화촉매제와 혼합하였다. 요소수지접착제 혼합물의 고형분량은 56.1%이고, 물은 43.9%였다. 국산재와 요소수지접착제 혼합물로 5종류의 Com-Ply를 제조하고, KS F 3101 보통합판의 인장 전단 접착력 시험 및 KS F 3104 파티클보드의 휨파괴계수 시험을 수행했다. 성능 평가된 결과는 제조된 5종류의 Com-Ply에서 모두 적합한 결과를 보여줬다. 이런 결과는 본 연구에서 사용된 요소수지접착제 혼합물이 국산재 Com-Ply제조에 적합하다는 것이다.

혈장접착제를 이용한 생활목질폐잔재로부터 제조된 흑탄 보드의 성질 (Properties of Black Charcoal Board Manufactured from Domestic Wood Waste by Using Serum Protein Adhesive)

  • This study was carried out to manufacture black charcoal board from domestic wood waste by using serum protein adhesive which is natural, environment-friendly and human-friendly. For the preparation of the serum protein adhesive, pig blood from slaughterhouse was centrifuged and serum was separated from corpuscles and concentrated to 30% by dry weight basis. The particle size of charcoal from domestic wood waste for this study was #6-60. Hot pressing schedule was $170^{\circ}C$ and 40kgf/$cm^2$ (1 min)-10kgf/$cm^2$ (2.5 min)-40kgf/$cm^2$ (5 min). The black charcoal board made by the addition of 13% serum protein adhesive on dry weight basis gave 41.76kgf/$cm^2$ of bending strength, 8.12kgf/$cm^2$ of internal bonding strength, and excellent gas adsorption and workability.

Hygroscopicity and Ultraviolet (UV) Deterioration Characteristics of Finished Woods

  • This study investigated the hygroscopicity and UV deterioration characteristics of 3 domestic and 4 imported woods using natural oil, stain, and varnish paints. In terms of hygroscopicity, it was found that the hygroscopicity of the painted wood was lower than that of the unpainted wood, and that as the number of coatings increased, the hygroscopicity decreased. In terms of anti-absorption, oil-based chemical paints showed higher resistance than water-based paints, and natural oils showed results comparable to oil-based paints. As for the UV deterioration, the amount of color change of the painted wood was lower than that of the unpainted wood, and there was no significant difference according to the number of times of painting. The amount of color change was found to be low in oil-based paints and hardwoods. Through this study, we confirmed effective moisture blocking and small color changes during painting using paints, and it is believed that wood can be protected from internal and external defects through selective and efficient painting based on data for excellent painting performance.

국내산 침엽수 열압밀화재의 역학적 특성 (Mechanical Properties of Thermally Compressed Domestic Softwoods)

  • 국산 침엽수재의 용도확장을 위해 열압밀화를 실시하여 압축세트량에 따른 역학적 성능을 조사하였다. 열압밀화 공정에 의해 시험편의 밀도가 크게 향상되었다. 50% 압축 시 대조군 대비 잣나무재가 약 71%, 소나무재가 약 74%, 낙엽송재가 약 76%의 밀도가 증가되었으며, 압축세트량 증가와 함께 시험편의 재질이 균일해진다는 것을 내부밀도분포 분석을 통해 알 수 있었다. 열압밀화에 따른 역학적 성능의 변화는 대조군 대비 50% 압축 시 잣나무재의 경우, 종압축강도가 76%, 휨강도가 83%, 표면경도가 55% 증가하였다. 소나무재는 종압축강도가 69%, 휨강도가 130%, 표면경도가 76% 증가되었다. 낙엽송재의 경우 종압축강도가 77%, 휨강도가 120%, 표면경도가 44% 증가되었다. 국산 침엽수 열압밀화재의 강도성능은 일반적으로 낙엽송재가 가장 높고 잣나무재가 가장 낮았다. 그러나 열압밀화에 의한 강도성능의 증가율은 소나무재가 가장 높았다.
