  • This paper examines how a Korean automobile firm price-discriminates between the Korean and the U.S. markets. We argue that a Korean automobile firm's pricing behavior depends on the differences in price elasticity over the segmented markets between the countries. Our findings are that differences in price elasticity may help explain why a medium-class car's price is higher in Korea than that in the U.S. while a small-sized car's price is higher in the U.S. than in Korea, which implies that a Korean automobile firm $3^{rd}$ degree price-discriminates on the same or similar products between Korea and the U.S. This type of $3^{rd}$ degree price discrimination differs from a typical home-bias effect (charging higher prices to domestic consumers) because a small-sized car which is produced domestically sells at higher price abroad. This finding can be added as a source that violates the law of one price.

  • To internalize climate-related external costs from agricultural production and food consumption Pigou taxes and carbon credits increase private costs for food. Voluntary GHG reduction program for carbon-neutral food can be advantageous over such policy measures since they avoid higher food prices for the poor. The pilot project of low-carbon agriculture certification system is to reduce GHG emissions from agricultural production and enhance the competitiveness of domestic agricultural products. This study examines producers', distributors', and consumers' perceptions of the low-carbon agriculture certification system and analyzes alternatives to promote the low-carbon certificated agricultural products.

  • Nuclear power generation is increasing domestic power supply ratio by lower CO2 emission and fuel prices. Currently, nuclear power generator has been operated with maximum power output. Therefore, nuclear power generator could be no effect to managing the reactive power reserve on power system. The reactive power reserve is calculated to the difference between maximum facility and operation generation capacity of the power system. This paper was proposed that load following of nuclear power is control by using 15-bus power system model. In the simulation result, power system is shown to safety state by operating load following of nuclear power generator. This method has be improved the supplied reliability through economic and efficient operation.

  • Exhaustion of fossil fuels and continued high oil prices, global warming, climate change and to respond to the development and use of alternative energy technologies is expanding rapidly throughout the world. Recently, character of domestic building is appearing by along with economic growth, high-rise, large size, congestion. For this reason, the amount of electrical energy used in a building is increasing. In this study, the applicability of PV modules that are used as roofing and efficiency analysis, and more from the building of BIPV modules built using the activation of alternative energy sources in Korea are aimed want done.

  • This study investigated (1) consumer perception about the level of electricity price, (2) the amount of household electricity consumption, and (3) consumer perception on electricity pricing system reform. For data collection, a national wide survey was conducted between November 22 and December 15, 2006. Excluding 233 cases, because of incomplete responses, data from 1767 households were analyzed. The major findings were as follows; More than 50% of the respondents consumed between 100-300kWh of electricity per month. Household size and income were significantly associated with electricity consumption. Approximately 50% of respondents perceived that electricity was being overcharged. Approximately 50% of the respondents positively evaluated the effects of the graduation pricing system. Households consuming more than 300kWh of electricity per month preferred a flat unit price. Based on these results, we suggest the implications to reforming the electricity pricing system.

  • A reduction in search costs is generally believed to make markets more competitive. However, the effect may be mitigated or amplified if consumers must pay costs for switching products. This paper investigates how search costs affect prices in the presence of switching costs using U.S. domestic airfare data for 2000-2010. The airline industry experienced a dramatic decrease in search costs with increasing Internet use in the 2000s. At the same time, the industry is known for its frequent flyer programs (FFPs), which increase switching costs for consumers. We use the average network size of airlines in a market as a proxy for switching costs related to FFPs and Internet usage as a proxy for (the inverse of) search costs. The results show that increasing Internet usage lowers airfares but that the effect is smaller for markets with a larger average network size.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze and to forecast the long-term domestic demand and export demand for timber in Korea by regression models with time series data during 1962~1978. The method applied in this study was econometric analysis using Time Series Processor. The most important explanatory variables of timber demand were found to be the production activities of wood products industries to the prices of substitute goods. On the basis of the long-term forecast made according to the guidelines of the Fifth Five-Year Plan. According to the projection, domestic timber demand is projected at 8 million cubic meters in 1987 and 10.6 million cubic meters in 1991. On the other hand, the total demand (domestic demand plus export demand) for timber is projected 21.4 million cubic meters in 1987 and 27.2 million cubic meters in 1991.

  • Since 2012, despite the fact that tariff rate quotas (TRQ) in the form of dried peppers has not been imported, the imports of pepper-related items such as low- tariff frozen peppers (27%) and other sauces (45%) have increased, there has been a problem in the domestic pepper industry, in which the domestic self-sufficiency rate has declined. The purpose of this study was to find out whether the operation of chili pepper TRQ has the effect of suppressing the imports of pepper-related items from China. We analyzed the import substitution effect (import suppression effect) through causal analysis of the imports of red pepper TRQ, frozen peppers, and other sauces using the structural equation model analysis method. As a result of the hypothetical scenario analysis, when the government imports and releases 7,185 tons of pepper TRQ in 2019/20 (scenario), private imports were estimated to decrease by only 3,060 tons. In other words, the import substitution effect between imported items was estimated to decrease about 2,079 tons of private dried peppers, and about 981 tons of imported pepper-related items. There was an effect of suppressing the imports of pepper-related items such as frozen peppers, but it was analyzed to be insignificant. That reason was that the replacement substitution elasticity of the pepper-related items for TRQ import was less than 1 (inelastic). Therefore, it is judged that the government's operation of the pepper TRQ is preferably focused on stabilizing domestic prices rather than focusing on import control of pepper-related items.
