가축 전염병 발생에 따른 소와 닭 사체의 화학적 처리 방법의 적용 (Application of chemical treatment for cattle and chicken carcasses for the control of livestock infectious diseases)

  • In the event of an outbreak of a livestock epidemic, it has been considered that the existing burial-centered carcass disposal method should be improved ecofriendly for prevention of leachate and odors from burial basically in regard of pathogen inactivation. Therefore, the aim of this study is whether it was possible to treat the carcass of cattle and chickens using the chemical carcass treatment method. It was conducted to establish detailed treatment standards for the chemical treatment method of cattle and chicken carcasses based on the results of the proof of the absence of infectious diseases in cattle chickens. After inoculating cattle carcass with 10 pathogens (foot and mouth disease virus, bovine viral diarrhea virus, Mycobacterium bovis, Mycobacterium avium subsp. Paratuberculosis, Brucella abortus, Bacillus anthracis, Clostridium chauvoei, Clostridium perfringens, Escherichia coli, and Salmonella Typhimurium) and chicken carcasses with low pathogenic avian influenza virus, Clostridium perfringens type C, E. coli and Salmonella Typhimurium, these were treated at 90℃ for 5 hours in a potassium hydroxide liquid solution corresponding to 15% of the body weight. This method liquefies all cadaveric components and inactivates all inoculated pathogens by PCR and culture. Based on these results, it was possible to prove that chemical treatment of cattle and chicken carcasses is effective in killing pathogens and is a safe method without the risk of disease transmission. The chemical treatment method of livestock carcasses can be suggested as an alternative to the current domestic burial-centered livestock carcass treatment method, preventing environmental pollution, and contributing to public health.

  • Salmonella I 4,[5],12:i:- was a monophasic variant of Salmonella (S.) Typhimurium and notorious for re-emerging candidate which would replace S. Typhimurium DT104 for antibiotic resistance. Recently, isolation rate was increased on human and industrial animals but there was no case in domestic animals but human in Korea. This was first isolation case from domestic animals in Korea. The five isolates from feces of duck (n = 3), chicken (n = 1), and wild bird (n = 1) showed antibiotic resistance against cephems and aminoglycosides. These means that the spread of emerging bacterial pathogens to domestic animals and the need of systemic management for Salmonella I 4,[5],12:i:-.

목초액을 이용한 산란노계의 육질 개선 연구 (Effects of Wood Vinegar Addition for Meat Quality Improvement of Old Layer)

  • 산란노계를 닭고기로서 자원화하여 농가의 수익과 단백질 공급원으로 활용하기 위한 목적으로, 생산성이 낮고 경제적 가치가 적은 산란노계 사료에 목초액을 첨가${\cdot}$급여하여 육질 개선 효과를 조사하기 위하여 계획하였다. 이사브라운 갈색종 240수를 배치하여 대조구에는 육계용 배합사료, 시험 1구에는 국산 목초액 $0.8\%$, 시험 2구에는 외국산 목초액 $0.4\%$를 첨가하여 급여하였다. 사료 섭취량은 대조구가 시험구보다 3g 정도 적었는데 목초액의 유기산이 사료의 소화에 영향을 준 것으로 사려된다. 사육성적의 차이는 국산과 외국산 목초액의 구성성분의 차이에 기인하며, 외국산 목초액의 첨가는 성페르몬과 성분이 유사한 목초액이 내분비 물질의 분비를 촉진한 결과 산란율이 증가하였고, 목초액의 첨가에 따라 조지방 함유량은 다리 고기가 가슴고기보다 많았으며 육색의 개선 효과도 있었다. 다리고기의 육질과 관능검사는 근섬유의 조직을 가늘게 하고 보습력을 증가시키는 외국산 목초액 첨가구에서 좋은 평가를 받았다.

국산 종계 개발을 위한 토종 계통들의 스트레스 반응 정도 분석 (Analysis of Stress Response of Domestic Chicken Breeds for the Development of a New Synthetic Parent Stock)

  • 본 연구에서는 국립축산과학원에서 보유하고 있는 토종닭 순계 12계통에 대한 계통 간 스트레스 반응 정도를 비교 분석하고자 하였다. 개체 별 스트레스 반응 정도 분석은 혈액으로부터 열 스트레스 단백질인 HSP-70, HSP-$90{\alpha}$, HSP-$90{\beta}$ 및 hydroxyl-3-methyl-glutaryl coenzyme A reductase(HMGCR)의 유전자 발현율과 텔로미어 함량을 반응 대상 표지로 하여 총 1,101수에 대해 정량 실시간 중합효소 연쇄반응법(real-time PCR)으로 분석하였다. 분석 결과 계통 간 HSP-70, HSP-$90{\alpha}$, HMGCR의 유전자 발현율과 텔로미어 함량의 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 암수 간에 있어서도 HSP-$90{\alpha}$, HSP-$90{\beta}$ 및 HMGCR의 발현율 차이를 나타내었다. 뿐만 아니라 닭의 연령 간에도 HSP-70 및 HSP-$90{\beta}$의 유전자 발현율과 텔로미어 함량의 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 계통 간 HSP 유전자 발현율과 텔로미어 함량 분석의 결과에 따라 공시 계통들 중 R, L, Y 계통들이 상대적으로 외부 스트레스에 강한 계통으로 보여지고, 반면 S, O, W 계통들은 스트레스에 민감한 계통들로 판단된다. 암수 간 스트레스 반응 정도에 있어 열 스트레스 단백질의 표지들 중 일부가 성 간 유의적 차이가 나타나지만 표지들 간 서로 상반된 결과를 보이고 또한 계통과 성 간의 상호작용이 있음에 따라 닭의 암수 간 스트레스 반응 정도의 차이는 없는 것으로 판단된다. 더불어 연령 간에도 일부 열 스트레스 유전자 발현도의 유의적 차이가 있었지만 표지들 간에 일관성이 없어 닭의 연령 간 스트레스 반응 정도의 차이는 없는 것으로 사료된다.

국가 보존 유전자원 한국토종닭 12종의 생산능력 고찰 (Production Performance of 12 Korean Domestic Chicken Varieties Preserved as National Genetic Resources)

  • 본 연구는 지난 25년간 농촌진흥청 국립축산과학원에서 수집 보존되어온 한국토종닭 12종의 생산능력에 대한 특성을 제시하고자 한 것으로 종별 생존능력, 산육능력 및 산란능력을 분석하였다. 생산 형질의 조사는 총 1,134수를 대상으로 하여 생존율, 체중, 시산일령, 산란율, 산란지수, 난중 및 난질 지표를 측정하였다. 분석 결과, 생존율은 토착로드-D종 및 한국재래닭 백색종이 92.2%로 가장 우수하였으며, 토착코니시 갈색종이 54.3%로 가장 저조하였다. 4주령부터 50주령까지 체중 측정 결과, 토착코니시종, 토착로드종, 한국재래닭, 한국오계, 토착레그혼종의 순으로 지속적으로 높은 체중을 나타내었다. 품종 내 계통 및 내종간 체중의 차이는 거의 없는 것으로 나타났다. 시산일령은 토착레그혼종이 가장 빨랐고, 토착코니시종이 가장 늦었다. 시산 이후 57주까지 일계산란율은 토착레그혼-K종이 76.7%로 가장 높았고, 토착코니시 갈색종이 10.8%로 가장 낮았다. 난중은 토착레그혼-F종이 가장 무거웠으며, 한국재래닭 백색종이 가장 가벼웠다. 호우유닛은 토착로드-C종이 가장 높았으며, 한국오계가 가장 낮았다. 이상의 결과들을 종합할 때, 토착코니시종의 경우 우수한 산육능력을 바탕으로 한국형 육용종으로 개량함이 바람직하고, 토착레그혼종은 비교적 높은 산란능력을 바탕으로 한국형 난용종으로 육성함이 바람직하며, 한국재래닭 및 토착로드종은 우수한 생존능력을 기반으로 강건성 품종으로 개량하는 것이 적합하다고 판단된다.

Livestock price change after anti-corruption law using VAR

  • The Anti-corruption Law has been enforced since Sep. 28, 2016 to prevent public servants from colluding with people for political favors and financial gain by giving bribes to public servants. Generally, most people in Korea think that the law has had a positive effect on society. Under this law, people believe that our society has become more transparent. However, domestic producers think the law has had negative effects on the Korean livestock industry. Statistics from the domestic livestock industry show that the Hanwoo price has dropped after the law was enforced. This study attempts to show how livestock prices in the Korean livestock industry have changed after the enactment of the law. We chose three important livestock industries, Hanwoo, pork, and chicken, to determine and compare the effects of the law on them. For the analysis, we used a time-series model, VAR, to incorporate the interactions of the three industries. We selected the average wholesale prices of these industries. Daily prices during the last 5 years were used to estimate and forecast the impacts of the law. The results show that the price of Hanwoo decreased after the enforcement of the law; however, the other livestock prices did not decrease. Additionally, we clearly saw this negative effect on the Hanwoo industry during the high demand season and New Year's Day (solar and lunar together).

Effects of Dietary Skullcap (Scutellaria baicalensis) Extract on Laying Performance and Lipid Oxidation of Chicken Eggs

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of dietary domestic Skullcap (Scutellaria baicalensis) extracts (SCE) on laying performance and egg quality in laying hens. There were no significant differences in feed intake, egg production, or relative liver and spleen weights. The egg weights in groups fed diets containing SCE were significantly increased as compared with the control. The number of cecal total microbes in the group fed a diet containing 0.5% SCE was significantly reduced as compared with other groups. The malondialdehyde contents in stored eggs were significantly lowered by feeding SCE. The Haugh unit in the groups fed diets containing SCE tended to be increased after 2 weeks storage, but not significantly. This result indicated that dietary domestic SCE may delay lipid oxidation in eggs when added to laying hen diets.

한국인 식사구성안의 식품군 및 권장식단의 물발자국에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Water Footprint of Korean Food Guide and Recommended Meal Plan)

  • Sustainable and healthy diet is a challenge in recent world. Despite the global depletion of water resources, Korea has no system for controlling its water footprint. This study established the water footprint tables of Korean food using the Water Footprint Network databases, and applied them into two meal plans for 19~64 year-old adults recommended in the Dietary Reference Intakes for Koreans 2020. Nut, oil, and meat's water footprints were higher and those of fruit and vegetable were lower. Sesame oil had the highest water footprint of 21,793 L/kg and pineapple had the lowest domestic water footprint of 102 L/kg. Water footprint of one serving size of beef was 925 L, that of chicken was 260 L, and those of soybean were 43 L in global and 81 L in domestic. The water footprint of the recommended 2,400 kcal meal plan was 2,882 L, and that of 1,900 kcal meal plan was 1,915 L. The water resources can be saved by choosing food with lower water footprint. The results of this study can be used in the further researches for more sustainable and healthier Korean diet.

  • 배자 생식세포 발달에 관련된 메카니즘을 밝혀내기 위해서, 닭 배자 생식기에서 추출한 원시 생식세포의 단백질체 지도를 만들었다. 총 500 배자를 6일간 배양하여 배자 생식기를 획득했고, 7-10일 배양 후, 배양된 원시생식세포는 2차원 젤 전기 영동법에 의해 분할되어 졌다. 유의적 발현 수준을 나타낸 많은 단백질 스팟 들은 MALDI-TOP 와 LC-MS/MS에 의해 확인되었으며, 89개의 단백질 스팟 중에 50개의 mass spectra 들이 데이터베이스에서 조류 단백질과 일치함을 확인하였다. 본 실험에서 행한 단백질체 지도는 형질전환 연구와 생식세포 생물학 분야에 중요한 참고 문헌으로 가치를 가질수 있을 것이다.

Identification of Single Nucleotide Polymorphism of H-FABP Gene and Its Association with Fatness Traits in Chickens

  • Heart fatty acid-binding protein gene (H-FABP) is an important candidate gene for meat quality. One of the objectives of this study was to screen single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) of chicken H-FABP gene among 252 individuals that included 4 Chinese domestic chicken breeds (Fengkai Xinghua (T04), Huiyang Huxu (H), Qingyuan Ma (Q), Guangxi Xiayan (S1)), 2 breeds developed by the Institute of Animal Science, Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences (Lingnan Huang (DC), dwarf chicken (E4)) and one introduced broiler (Abor Acre (AA)). Another objective of this study was to analyze the associations between polymorphisms of the H-FABP gene and fat deposition traits in chickens. PCR-SSCP was used to analyze SNPs in H-FABP and 4 SNPs (T260C, G675A, C783T and G2778A) were detected. Associations between polymorphic loci and intramuscular fat (IMF), abdominal fat weight (AFW) and abdominal fat percentage (AFP) were analyzed by ANCOVA method. The results showed that the T260C genotypes were significantly associated with IMF (p = 0.0233) and AFP (p = 0.0001); the G675A genotypes were significantly associated with AFW, AFP (p<0.01) and IMF (p<0.05); at the C783T locus, AFW and AFP differed highly between genotypes. However, the G2778A loci did not show any significant effect on fat deposition traits in this study. In addition, we found that there were some differences between AFP and definite haplotypes through a nonparametric statistical method, so the haplotypes based on the SNPs except G2778A loci were also significantly associated with IMF, AFW (g) (p<0.05) and AFP (%) (p<0.001). Significantly and suggestively dominant effects of H4H4 haplotype were observed for IMF and the H2H3 was dominant for AFW (g) and AFP (%). The results also revealed that H5H7 haplotype had a negative effect on IMF, while the H5H6 had a positive effect on AFW (g) and AFP (%).
