Taxonomic Review of L. makinoana Complex (Orchidaceae; Epidendroideae; Malaxidae) in Korea

  • 한국에서 자생하고 있는 Liparis 속의 11분류군 중 Liparis koreana (Nakai) Nakai을 제외하고 대부분은 경기도와 강원도부터 제주도 및 도서지방을 포함한 전국에 분포하고 있다. 최근 국내 Liparis japonica(Miq.) Maxim. 로 알려진 개체군에 대해 학명이 잘못 적용된 결과가 보고되었고, 본 개체군을 포함하여 Liparis makinoana complex에 대한 국내 개체군에 대해 재검토를 하였다. 그 결과 L. makinoana complex은 제주 Type (Type 1)과 내륙의 2 Types (Type 2, 3)으로 3 Types가 확인되었다. Type 1-3은 형태학적으로 유사하지만, 종의 형태학적 형질과 개화기, 그리고 분포지역에서 뚜렷한 차이를 보였다. Type 1은 꽃이 가장 크며, 순판은 넓은 난형이고, 개화기는 5-6월이며, 제주도에서 분포하는 것으로 확인되었다. Type 2는 꽃이 중간크기이며, 순판이 난형이고, 개화기는 6월 중순-7월 중순이며, 중북부지방에 주로 분포한다. 반면에, Type 3는 꽃이 가장 작고, 순판이 좁은 난형이고, 개화기가 6월 초-7월 초이며, 백두대간을 따라 분포하는데, Type 3는 Type 1과 Type 2에 비해 화서가 길다.

Classification of Korean Rice Cultivars based on Reaction Pattern to Japanese Isolates of Blast Pathogen

  • Classification of blast resistance type of 129 Korean rice cultivars was carried out based on reaction pattern to 10 Japanese blast pathogen isolates(Pyricularia oryzae). The cultivars were divided into 11 groups based on the presumed resistance genes as follows; Pia type(19 cultivars), Pita-2 type(4), Pik type(3), Pib type(5), Piz type(11), Pik-s type(8), Pik and Pii type(4), Pia and Pita type(8), Pia and Pik type(6), Pita, Pik and Pii type(4) and no-grouping type(57). These results would provide important information to rice breeding for durable and broad resistance to rice blast.

Complete Genome Sequence of a Staphylococcus aureus Sequence Type 188 Strain SA73-2 Isolated from Lettuce

  • Staphylococcus aureus is a ubiquitous pathogen associated with both human and animal diseases. In this study, we present the complete genome sequence of SA73-2, which was isolated from lettuce at an agricultural farm in South Korea. The assembled genome consists of a 2,750,304-bp circular chromosome and a 24,654-bp plasmid. This strain belongs to sequence type 188 (ST188), with spa type 189, and carries the β-lactamase gene (blaZ) on the plasmid.

  • The effect of arc like streamer discharge is investigated on the hydrogen generation in the plasma reactor with multineedle - plate electrode geometry and SDR (Plasma reactor using the surface discharge). An additive of the two type (the saw type and the pellet type) was placed under the water surface to investigate the effect of the water surface conditions. The experimental results are compared in case of the reactor with and without an additive on the water surface. The generation of arc streamer discharge is more powerful with increasing applied voltage in the saw type. The maximum hydrogen Production concentration is about 4300 ppm at 74W in the SDR with additive of the saw type. Also, the Energy yield of the SDR (28990 g/kWh, 4300ppm, 74W) is higher than of the multineedle - plate electrode geometry (20892g/kWh, 3300ppm, 77W).

270-W 15-kHz MOPA System Based on Side-pumped Rod-type Nd:YAG Gain Modules

  • We have developed a 270-W 15-kHz MOPA system based on side-pumped rod-type Nd:YAG gain modules. The master oscillator is a 3-W 15-kHz $TEM_{00}$ $Nd:YVO_4$ laser with a pulse duration of 30 ns. To preserve the high beam quality during the amplification, we use image relay and polarization rotation which can simultaneously compensate for thermal lensing and thermal birefringence generated in the rod-type gain modules. After the amplification to 270 W with six rod-type gain modules, the beam quality factor ($M^2$) of the amplified laser beam is 5-10, and the pulse duration is maintained at 30 ns.

Determination and Analysis of Hyper-Variable A Mating Types in Wild Strains of Lentinula edodes in Korea

  • The diversity of A mating type in wild strains of Lentinula edodes was extensively analyzed to characterize and utilize them for developing new cultivars. One hundred twenty-three A mating type alleles, including 67 newly discovered alleles, were identified from 106 wild strains collected for the past four decades in Korea. Based on previous studies and current findings, a total of 130 A mating type alleles have been found, 124 of which were discovered from wild strains, indicating the hyper-variability of A mating type alleles of L. edodes. About half of the A mating type alleles in wild strains were found in more than two strains, whereas the other half of the alleles were found in only one strain. About 90% of A mating type combinations in dikaryotic wild strains showed a single occurrence. Geographically, diverse A mating type alleles were intensively located in the central region of the Korean peninsula, whereas only allele A17 was observed throughout Korea. We also found the conservation of the TCCCAC motif in addition to the previously reported motifs, including ATTGT, ACAAT, and GCGGAG, in the intergenic regions of A mating loci. Sequence comparison among some alleles indicated that accumulated mutation and recombination would contribute to the diversification of A mating type alleles in L. edodes. Our data support the rapid evolution of A mating locus in L. edodes, and would help to understand the characteristics of A mating loci of wild strains in Korea and help to utilize them for developing new cultivars.

벤더형 고응답 압전밸브의 주파수 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Frequency Characteristics of a Bender Type High-Speed Piezoelectric Pneumatic Valve)

  • Two kinds of piezoelectric actuator are applied to the valve for controlling the direction, the flow and the pressure of the fluid. One is a stack type piezoelectric actuator which has very fast response characteristics but very tiny displacement. The other is a bender type piezoelectric actuator which has also fast response characteristics but lower than the stack type one, and has longer displacement than the stack type one. So, the bender type piezoelectric actuator has advantage to apply to the valve for controlling a large amount of flow and fast on-off operating. In this study, the bender type piezoelectric pneumatic valve for color sorter is designed and fabricated. The new type high speed piezo valve with the both side supporting mechanism for high operating frequency and high reliability is discussed for separating the foreign body from the grains. Finally, the performance characteristics of a fabricated valve are analyzed and the frequency characteristics are also discussed for substituting the conventional type solenoid actuator.

연직판형 부소파제의 수리학적 특성과 동적거동 (Hydraulic Characteristics and Dynamic Behaviors of Floating Breakwater with Vertical Plates)

  • In order to develop a floating breakwater, which can efficiently control long period waves, vertical plates are attached in pontoon. Wave control and dynamic behaviors of the newly developed vertical plates type are verified from numerical analysis and hydraulic experiment. As a result, for the wave control and energy dissipation, the newly developed vertical plates type is more efficient than the conventional pontoon type. For the floating body motion, the wave transmission, depending on incident wave period, is decreased at the natural frequency. Dimensionless drift distance has similar trend of the reflection rate of wave transformation near natural frequency except maximum and minimum values. Dimensionless maximum tension is 17 percent of the weight of floating breakwater in case of the conventional pontoon type and 18 percent or 14 percent in case of the newly developed vertical plates type. Thus, it is shown that the wave control is improved by the vertical plates type. In addition, by adjusting the interval of the front and back vertical plate, we would control proper wave control.

사상체질 진단검사 타당성 분석지표의 일반화 연구 (Generalized Analysis on Validity of Sasang Type Diagnosis)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop generalized validity evaluation indexes for the Sasang type diagnostic test. As a generalized evaluation index for Sasang type diagnostic test, Generalized Squared Correlation (GC2), Mutual Information (I) and Mutual Information Coefficient (IC) as overall validity index, and Correlation Coefficient (C) and Mutual Information Contribution (ID) as type-specific validity index were suggested and the practicability of these indexes was assessed along with Percentage Correctly Predicted (PCP), adjusted PCP, type-specific sensitivity and type-specific specificity which was proposed previously. The usefulness of the nine validity indexes was examined using previously reported data and three mock Sasang type diagnosis results. We demonstrated here that the PCP is not adequate for the analysis of validity. We also showed that our validity index is recommendable for the comparison and improvement of Sasang type diagnosis. The generalized validity analysis of Sasang type diagnosis can provide a guideline for the development of new Sasang type diagnosis or pattern identification.
