  • A numerical analysis was peformed for the supersonic aircraft with variable pitch thrust vector nozzle. Based on the requirement of the mixed turbofan engine of the supersonic aircraft, two dimensional thrust vector nozzle with variable pitch angle was designed. To investigate the effect of the thrust vectoring nozzle, the numerical analysis was conducted by using Fluent under the several pitch deflection angle.

  • The computation of the flow around a supercritical airfoil with a divergent trailing edge(DTE) modification(DLBA 243) is compared to that of original supercritical airfoil(DLBA 186). For this computation, Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equations are solved with a linearized block implicit ADI method and a mixing length turbulence model. Results show the effects of the shock and separated flow regions on drag reduction due to DTE modification. Results also show that DTE modification accelerates the boundary layer flow near the trailing edges which has an effect similar to a chordwise extension that increases circulation and is consistent with the calculated increase in the recirculation region in the wake. Airfoil with DTE modification achieves the same lift coefficient at a lower incidence and thus at a lower drag coefficient, so that lift-to-drag ratio is increased in transonic cruise conditions compared to the original airfoil. The reduction in drag due to DTE modification is associated with weakening of shock strength and delay of shock which is greater than the increase in base drag.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate sex differences in creativity among young children and differences in creativity as a function of the questioning patterns of teachers. The subjects were 4 teachers and 133 five-year-old children (63 boys and 70 girls). The questioning of teachers were categorized into divergent vs. convergent patterns by 3 trained observers. The TTCT (Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking) was administered to the subjects. Creativity scores on fluency, elaboration, originality, and abstractness of titles differed by questioning patterns. Girls' elaboration scores were higher than boys' as a function of teachers' divergent questioning patterns. Boys' abstractness of titles was higher than girls' as a function of teacher's convergent questioning patterns.

  • This Paper presents numerical solutions of two-dimensional Euler equations for supersonic steady and unsteady flows with heat addition in a convergent-divergent duct, The Van Leer FVS (flux vector splitting) method in generalized coordinates is employed in order to calculate the inviscid strong shock waves caused by thermal choking. We discuss on transient characteristics, start and unstart phenomena caused by thermal choking, limit of equivalence ratio to avoid thermal choking and fluctuation of specific thrust caused by thermal choking. We prove that thermal choking is a serious problem in view of engine performance.

  • Diesel engine injector is used for spraying the fuel into the cylinder chamber. Complex phenomenon like cavitation occurs from small scale domain, highly pressurized condition and rapid injection. Flow inside the nozzle affects the whole engine performance including combustion and exhaust, therefore understanding the flow inside the injector nozzle is very important. In this paper, cylindrical and convergent-divergent nozzles are suggested for nozzle types and their influences on nozzle internal flow and nozzle outlet characteristics will be analyzed by changing their outlet diameters.

  • Postweaning performance data were obtained on 401 group fed purebred Angus calves from 24 selected sires (12 high and 12 low feed conversion sires) from 1983 through 1986 at the Northwestern Branch of the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center. A single generation divergent selection experiment was replicated four times (1983, 1984, 1985 and 1986) to obtain an realized heritability estimate for postweaning feed conversion. The 140-d postweaning period was divided into five 28-d periods. Realized heritability estimates for feed conversion by 28-d periods fluctuated greatly and demonstrated no particular pattern. Heritability was highest for the fourth period (between d 85 and 112 of postweaning period, 0.61). Thus, beef producers could successfully select for feed conversion.

  • An investigation of the thrust vectoring nozzle which can be applied to the supersonic variable exhaust system was performed. The maximum mach number of the model aircraft is 1.8 and mission radius is about 400Nm. The cycle analysis are performed at each operating regime of the aircraft and the specifications of the thrust vectoring nozzle were developed. Based upon the requirement of the thrust vectoring nozzle, two dimensional thrust vectoring nozzle were designed and flow analysis was conducted by deflection of the pitch and yaw angle.

  • The divergent synthesis of novel phosphorus-containing dendrimer with 4,4'-sulphonyldiphenol at the core has been accomplished involving simple condensation reactions using $P(O)Cl_3$, $P(S)Cl_3$, 3-amino-phenol, 3-hydroxy-benzaldehyde, and 2-butyn 1, 4-diol. The final compound was a Schiff's base macromolecule possessing 4 imine bonds, 8 acetylenic bonds and 8 OH groups at the periphery. The structures of intermediate compounds were confirmed by IR, NMR ($^1H$, $^{13}C$ and $^{31}P$), LC-Mass and C, H, N analysis. The structure of the final dendrimer (5) was confirmed by IR, NMR ($^1H$, $^{13}C$ and $^{31}P$), MALDI-TOF-MS, and C, H, N analysis. The surface morphological characteristics of the final dendrimer were understood by Scanning Electronic Microscopic study (SEM). The thermal stability of the final dendrimer was studied by TGA/DTA analysis.
