Recently, the radial distribution system is operating as one-way power flow. These are popular because of their simple design and relatively low cost. However, radial systems are sensitive to outages due to single contingencies. Also, reliability of supply is becoming increasingly important. Accordingly, an appearance of the loop distribution system is inevitable and the other countries such as Macau, Florida, Taiwan are actively working on. The reliability of distribution system is estimated with reliability indices. In this paper, comparing with the radial distribution system, we evaluate and analyse the reliability of loop distribution system quantitatively considering directional relay.
Recently, there has been growing interest in utilizing distributed generation (DG). However, an insertion of DG to existing distribution system can cause several problems such as voltage variations, harmonics, protective coordination, increasing fault current etc,. The typical protection system of the existing distribution system is designed for radial network. But penetration of DG to distribution system changes existing unidirectional power flow to bidirectional power flow. Therefore, investigation to cover whole field of distribution system must be accomplished such as changing of protection devices rating by increasing fault current, reevaluation of protective coordination. This paper presents that PSCAD/EMTDC simulations was accomplished to analyze effect of DG on the distribution protective coordination. In addition, directional recloser-sectionalizer coordination are evaluates distribution system with DG by using PSCAD/EMTDC simulation.

This paper is to determine the transportation size and the location of distribution centers to minimize logistics cost in a distribution system where products are transported from the distribution centers to the retailers. Logistics cost consists of the fixed cost of distribution centers, the transportation cost from the distribution centers to the retailers and the inventory holding cost in the retailers. The logistics cost is affected by the transportation size and the location of distribution centers. The transportation size affects transportation cost and inventory holding cost. The location of distribution centers affects the transportation cost. A mathematical model is formulated and the algorithm is developed. A numerical example is shown to explain the problem.

Distribution system can experience the diverse events instantly and permanently. Also, it can experience high impedance fault or line drop under unbalanced situation, Accordingly, it is difficulty to identify the fault location because that data collected from distribution SCADA system may include uncertainty. This paper proposes an expert system, which can infer the faulted location the quickly and exactly for the diverse events in the distribution system. The expert system utilizes distribution SCADA function and collected data, especially, the monitoring mechanism for the normal open position switches is adopted newly in order to recognize the fault type exactly. Also, automated fault location diagnosis strategy is developed in order to minimize the spreading effect of fault obtained from the error of the system operator. The proposed strategy is implemented in C language. Especially, in order to prove the effectiveness of proposed expert system, the several scenario is simulated for the given model system. The real feeders are selected as model system for the simulation.

Various database and analysis system has been used for the cost effective maintenance of distribution facility but it is not effective because of the lack of interconnection among these systems. In order to overcome this problem this paper proposes reliability centered maintenance system based on the on-line monitoring of distribution system through intelligent distribution equipment. This system is made by the interconnection of distribution automation system, asset management system, failure analysis system and failure mode effect analysis system.

The study concerning about the grid connection of the large-capacity battery energy storage system(BESS) is increasing. However, the protection study which is necessary to maintain the reliability of distribution system has been hardly performed. Therefore, this paper analyzes the effect of reclosing among protection issues in distribution system with BESS and proposes the new relcosing method. To verify the proposed method, the BESS, distribution system, and proposed method are modeled by using EMTP/ATPDraw and the various simulations according to the fault clearing time are performed. The simulation results show that the reclosing in distribution system with BESS is successfully performed by proposed method and the operation of BESS is not affected from reclosing.

In this paper, the load balancing which is one of the distribution power system's operation purposes was studied. Reconfiguration of Distribution power system presents that the configuration is changed by changing the switch on/off status which exists in the system according to the mentioned purpose. Through this method, the load of distribution power system is shown to be balanced. As a characteristic of complicated distribution power system, system is designed by being applied by OOP(Object Oriented Programming) method which connected more flexibly than existing Procedural Programming method, and the process of calculating the distflow and the loss of configurated system is shown. In addition, this paper suggests more efficient method compared by the results of reconfiguration on the purpose of the loss minimization and by the result of distribution power system reconfiguration on the purpose of load balancing. Moreover, it searches for the method to approach the global optimal solution more quickly.
Maintaining a good quality of drinking water produced through appropriate water treatment processes to the tap is as important as improving water quality in a water treatment plant (WTP). The quality of most tap water, however, does not have the same quality as that of the water produced in a WTP due to the contamination in the distribution system while they are delivered through pipes and water tanks. It is very important to maintain water quality in distribution system to water suppliers for consumer's health and safety. Furthermore, it is not possible to investigate the water quality of all points in the distribution system because the system has a wide area and very complex hydraulic characteristics. One economic solution to prevent water quality in distribution system from being deteriorated is monitoring several points that might have the least water quality in the distribution system. If the quality of water of the monitoring points selected by proper ways is better than the quality index of Drinking Water Quality Guidelines suggested by Korean Ministry of Environment, all other points in the distribution system would be safe to drink.
To resolve overload in a distribution system, a distribution system operator (DSO) often performs a load transfer using normally open tie points and switches in the distribution line. During this process, the distribution system is momentarily operated in closed-loop operation. A closed-loop current in the distribution system can cause a power failure due to excess breaking current in the circuit breakers and reclosers. Therefore, it is necessary to calculate the closed-loop current exactly. However, if there are a large number of distributed generation (DG) systems in the distribution system, such as energy storage systems (ESS), they might obstruct the closed-loop operation based on bidirectional power flow. For quick and precise operation of a closed-loop system, the ESS has to regulate the power generation while satisfying closed-loop operation in the worst cases. We propose a strategy for balanced power regulation of an ESS. Simulations were carried out using PSCAD/EMTDC, and the results were compared with calculation results.

Recently, there has been growing interest in utilizing cogeneration(COGN) systems with a high-energy efficiency due to the increasing energy consumption and the lacking of energy resource. But an insertion of COGN system to existing power distribution system can cause several problems such as voltage variations, harmonics, protective coordination, increasing fault current etc, because of reverse power of COGN, especially in protective coordination. A study on a proper coordination with existing one is being required. The existing power distribution system is operated with radial type by one source and protection system is composed based on unidirectional power source. But an Insertion of COGN system to power distribution system change existing unidirectional power source system to bidirectional power source. Therefore, investigation to cover whole field of power distribution system must be accomplished such as changing of protection devices rating by increasing fault current, reevaluation of protective coordination. In this paper, simulation using PSCAD/EMTDC was accomplished to analyze effect of COGIN on distribution fault current. Also, the existing protection system of 22.9[kV] power distribution system and customers protection system to protect of COGIN was analyzed and the study on protective coordination between of two protection system accomplished.
