Relationships between red ceil volume $(^{51}Cr-cell)$, total blood volume (red cell volume divided by hematocrit ratio), and extracellular fluid volume (SCN distribution space) and body weight (ranging between 73 and 384 grams) or lean body mass were studied in 59 nembutalized rats. Lean body mass was determined by means of underwater weighing method on rats clipped and eviscerated. There were positive correlations between body weight or lean body mass and the absolute values (in milliliters) of body fluid volumes. Body fluid volumes expressed on the body weight or lean body mass basis, however, showed negative correlations between body weight (grams) or lean body weight (grams) with one exception. Red cell volume expressed as % lean body mass showed a positive correlation with lean body mass. The other results are summarized as follows: 1. Body density of rats was 1.0561 $(range:\;1.0123{\sim}1.0781)$ and 19.8% body weight of total body fat was obtained. The mean value of lean body mass was 80.2% body weight 2. The correlation between body weight and lean body mass was high, namely, coefficient of correlation was r=.99. 3. The correlation between the absolute value of red cell volume (ml) and body weight showed a high correlation, namely, r= 92 and between the lean body mass coefficient of correlation was r=.93. On a weight basis, red cell volume was 2.67 ml/100 gm body weight or 3.48 ml/100 gm lean body mass. The coefficient of correlation between body weight (grams) and red cell volume (% body weight) was r=-. 30. The coefficient of correlation between lean body mass (grams) and red cell volume (% lean body mass) was r=. 50. Thus, the following regression equation was obtained. Red cell volume (% lean body mass)=. 00243 Lean body mass (gm)+3. 12. 4. Total blood volume was 6.06% body weight or 7.83% lean body mass. The correlation between these blood volume values and body weight or lean body mass were negative, namely, r= -.43 and r=-.42 respectively. 5. Extracellular volume (SCN space) was 30.0% body weight or 37.2% lean body mass. These percentage values showed negative correlations between body weight or lean body mass and coefficients of correlation were r=-.40 and r=-.54 respectively. 6. The rate of increase in body weight or lean body mass is accompanied by a smaller rate of increase in blood volume and extracellular fluid volume. The rate of increase in red ceil volume paralled that of lean body mass.

Various components of an engine nozzle are modeled as flexible multi-body components that are operated under high temperature and pressure. In this paper, in order to predict complex behavior of an engine nozzle, thermo-fluid-flexible multi-body dynamics coupled analysis framework was developed. Temperature and pressure on the nozzle wall were obtained by the steady-state flow analysis for a two-dimensional nozzle. The pressure and temperature-dependent material properties were delivered to the flexible multi-body dynamics analysis. Then the deflection and strain distribution for a nozzle configuration was obtained. Heat conduction and thermal analyses were done using MSC.NASTRAN. The present framework was validated for a simple nozzle configuration by using a one-way coupled analysis. A two-way coupled analysis was also performed for the simple nozzle with an arbitrary joint clearance, and an asymmetric flow was observed. Finally, the total strain result for a realistic nozzle configuration was obtained using the one-way and two-way coupled analyses.
In order to approximate plasma volume, extracellular fluid volume and total body water volume of Korean native goats, measurements were made of the volumes of distribution of Evans blue, potasium thiocyanate and antipyrine. The results obtained in this work were summarized as follows: 1. Plasma volume showed a range of 50 to 72ml/kg with a mean of $62{\pm}6.2ml/kg$ (SD). 2. Blood volume showed a range of 69 to 98ml/kg with a mean of $85{\pm}7.9ml/kg$. 3. Extracellular fluid volume showed a range of 265 to 310ml/kg with a mean of $297{\pm}18.3ml/kg$. 4. Interstitial fluid volume showed a range of 204 to 261ml/kg with a mean of $236{\pm}16.8ml/kg$. 5. Intracellular fluid volume showed a range of 380 to 436ml/kg with a mean of $420{\pm}12.6ml/kg$. 6. The volume of total body water showed a range of 680 to 735ml/kg with a mean of $714{\pm}17.7ml/kg$.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify differences between intake and output balance and body weight changes and to identify factors related to differences in critically ill patients. Methods: The participants for this descriptive correlational study were 65 medical surgical ICU patients. The data were collected from patient medical records. Results: Mean age of the patients was 63.80 years (${\pm}15.21$). Body weight changes for 48 hours averaged 281.54g (${\pm}2210.48$). I&O balance for 48 hours corrected for insensible loss averaged 398.1ml. Differences ranged from 45mL to 7,535mL. In the distribution of absolute difference between body weight change and intake and output balance, only 40% of the patients were within less than 1,000 mL. Factors relating to accurate measure of intake and output were ventilation methods, respiration patterns, and edema status. Conclusion: Although mean values of weight change and I&O balance for all patients were very close, the range of differences was very wide indicating that, for many patients, intake and output is not an appropriate indicator of body fluid balance. Therefore, because of the frequency fever and/or hyperventilation, nurses need to use caution when using intake and output balance only to estimate current body fluid status for critically ill patients.
Pharmacokinetic parameters and dosage of aminoglycosides (AGs) were studied retrospectively in 36 patients with neutropenic fever after stem cell transplantation in Seoul National University Hospital from July 1996 to June 2001. AGs pharmacokinetic parameters were calculated with steady-state peak and trough serum drug concentrations by the method of Sawchuk and Zaske et at. The calculated aminoglycosides volume of distribution and clearance were greater than population value $(0.36\pm0.06\;L/kg,\;116\pm32\;ml/min/1.73\;m^2,\;respectively)$. The average dosage of aminoglycosides required to maintain optimal serum AGs concentration was also greater than recommended dose in insert paper. The average dosage of amikacin was $11\pm2.1$ mg/kg every 12 hours (In case of tobramycin, $2.09\pm0.37$ mg/kg every 8 hours or $2.59\pm0.20$ mg/kg every 12 hours). The relationship between AGs volume of distribution and sex, serum albumin (g/dl), body mass index $(kg/m^2)$, body weight change $(\%)$, the amount of fluid inpu (ml/kg/day), the degree of hematocrit decrease $(\%)$ were studied respectively. Univariate anlysis revealed that body mass index $(kg/m^2)$, the amount of fluid input (ml/kg/day) and the degree of hematocrit decrease $(\%)$ had significant correlation with aminoglycosides volume of distribution. But sex, serum albumin, body weight change $(\%)$ had no significant correlation with aminoglycosides volume of distribution.

In this paper, Gauss filter function is used to filter the N-S equation and the subgrid-scale Reynold stresses model is introduced to deduce the practical form of LES equation for 2-D case for flow calculation of hydraulic machine. Then the LES equation and its discrete form in computational field are obtained in the body-fitted coordinate system and the numerical calculation program is built. The incompressible turbulent flow in double-flow-conduits-sewage pump impeller is computed by using the abovementioned program, and then the distribution rules of velocity and pressure in flow field are obtained. Based on this, the designs of double-flow-conduits-sewage pump impeller are optimized.
The authors reviewed 167 malignant effusions from 110 patients, of which the primary site was established on the basis of either biopsy or surgical resection of the primary neoplasm. Main factors analysed were the distribution of primary organs and the cytohistoiogic correlation of body cavity effusions. The 167 fluid specimens from 110 patients consisted of 90 cases(53.9%) of pleural, 68(40.7%) of peritoneal, and 9(5.4%) of pericardial origins. Histologically they consisted of 82 cases(74.5%) of adenocarcinoma, 8(7.3%) of malignant lymphoma, 6(5.5%) of squamous ceil carcinoma, and 3(2.7%) of small cell carcinoma. The most common site among the primary lesions was the stomach in 25 cases(22.7%) followed by the lung in 21(19.1%), ovary on 17(15.5%), and breast in 7(6.4%). As for the distribution of primary tumors in adenocarcinoma, the most common site was lung un 16 cases (48.5%) in pleural fluid and stomach in 22(48.9%) in peritoneal fluid. In pericardial effusions, all 5 cases were from the lung. As a whole, the cytologic findings of malignant effusion were fairly representative of histologic characteristics of primary lesions. Thus, when the primary lesion Is unknown, careful evaluation of effusion cytology is presumed to be a helpful tooi for tracing the primary tumor.
We performed thermal and structural analyses to evaluate the structural integrity of a semi-metal gasket for a flange with increases in the internal fluid temperature and pressure using a commercial FEA program. As a thermal analysis result, the temperature distribution of the gasket body increased with an increase in the internal fluid temperature until the maximum fluid temperature of $600^{\circ}C$. In addition, the structural analysis showed that contact pressures of more than 35 MPa occurred uniformly in the graphite seal regions. It was found that no fluid leakage occurred under the load conditions for the structural analysis because the contact pressure in the graphite seal region was greater than the maximum internal fluid pressure of 35 MPa. Therefore, we demonstrated the structural integrity of the semi-metal gasket by performing the thermal and structure analyses under the maximum fluid temperature of $600^{\circ}C$ and the internal fluid pressure of 35 MPa.
The experiment was performed at the large wind tunnel of the Chungnam National University to measure the velocity distribution around the stern of a Liquefied Natural Gas Carrier model. The data, mean velocity vectors of turbulent shear flows at the stern and near-wake including the propeller plane, were obtained by a five-hole Pilot tube for the double body model fixed inside the wind tunnel test section. The present result of the double body model shows a close agreement with the result of the lowing tank experiment performed by the KRISO for the same ship model. The characteristics of the LNG stern flow are discussed based on the measured velocity distribution. The data can be very useful for the validation of some numerical methods in computational fluid dynamics.

An improved three dimensional Rankine source method is developed to solve numerically water wave problems in time domain. The free surface and body surface are both represented by continuous panels rather than a discretization by isolated points. The integral of Rankine source 1/r on free surface panel is calculated analytically instead of numerical approximation. Due to the exact algorithm of Rankine source integral applied on the free surface and body surface, a space increment free surface source distribution method is developed and much smaller amount of source panels are required to cover the fluid domain surface than other numerical approximation methods. The proposed method shows a higher accuracy and efficiency compared to other numerical methods for various water wave problems.
