Capacitively-coupled resistivity (CCR) system is known to be very useful where galvanic contact to earth is impossible, such as the area covered with thick ice, snow, concrete or asphalt. This system injects current non-galvanically, i.e., capacitively to earth through line antenna and measures potential difference in a same manner. We derived geometric factor for two types of antenna configuration and presented the method of processing and converting the data obtained with CCR system suitable to conventional resistivity inversion analysis. The CCR system, however, has limitations on use at conductive area or electrically noisy area since it is very difficult to inject sufficient current to earth with this system as with conventional resistivity system. This causes low SM ratio when acquiring data with CCR system and great care must be taken in acquiring data with this system. Additionally the uniform contact between line antennas and earth is also crucial factor to obtain good S/N ratio data. The CCR method, however, enables one to perform continuous profiling over a survey line by dragging entire system and thus will be useful in rapid investigation of conductivity distribution in shallow subsurface.

For implementing the ubiquitous computing environments with smart home infrastructures, various research on the home network have been performed by several research institutes and companies. Due to the various home network middleware that are developed recently, the standardization of the home network middleware is being delayed and it calls for the middleware bridge which solves the interoperability problem among the heterogeneous middlewares. Now the research on the scheme for interoperability and the development of the various bridges are in progress, such as one-to-one bridge supporting interoperability between two middlewares and one-to-many bridge supporting interoperability among the multi-middlewares. However, existing systems and schemes does not consider the dynamic extensibility and performance that is particularly needed in the smart home environments. The middleware bridge should provide bridge extensibility with zero-configuration for non-expert users. It should also provide the load balancing scheme for efficient and proper traffic distribution. In this paper, we propose a Multi-Middleware Bridge(MMB) for dynamic extensibility and load balancing in home network environments. MMB provides bridge scalability and load balancing through the distributed system structure. We also verify the features such as interoperability, bridge extensibility, and the performance of the load balancing algorithm.
Purpose: For aesthetic reasons, composite resin brackets are widely used. However, related studies are rare. This pilot study sought to compare the stress distributions in two commercially available composite resin brackets with metal slot. Materials and Methods: Two commercially available resin brackets -- full-metal slot resin bracket (fSRB) and partial-metal slot resin bracket (pSRB) with straight wire appliance dimension of $0.022{\times}0.028$ in -- were selected. In each bracket, 3-dimensional finite element models were constructed, and stress level was evaluated using finite element analysis. By loading the tipping force and torsion moment, which are similar to those applied by the stainless steel rectangular wire ($0.019{\times}0.025$ -in), stress distributions were calculated, and von Mises stress values were obtained. Results: In pSRB and fSRB, the stress value of the torque moment was much higher than that of the tipping force. The pSRB showed higher stress value than fSRB in both tipping force and torque moment because of the difference in size and configuration of the metal frame inserted into the slot. More stress was also found to be concentrated on the slot area than the wing area in fSRB. Conclusion: The slot form of fSRB was found to be more resistant to the stress of tipping and torque than the slot form of pSRB. In addition, the slot areas -- rather than the wing areas -- of the bracket showed breakage susceptibility. Therefore, resistance to the torque moment on the slot area should be considered in bracket design.
Spatial-Stochastic Neural Networks Model(SSNNM) is used to estimate long-term streamflow in the parallel reservoir groups. SSNNM employs two kinds of backpropagation algorithms, based on LMBP and BFGS-QNBP separately. SSNNM has three layers, input, hidden, and output layer, in the structure and network configuration consists of 8-8-2 nodes one by one. Nodes in input layer are composed of streamflow, precipitation, pan evaporation, and temperature with the monthly average values collected from Andong and Imha reservoir. But some temporal differences apparently exist in their time series. For the SSNNM training procedure, the training sets in input layer are generated by the PARMA(1,1) stochastic model and they covers insufficient time series. Generated data series are used to train SSNNM and the model parameters, optimal connection weights and biases, are estimated during training procedure. They are applied to evaluate model validation using observed data sets. In this study, the new approaches give outstanding results by the comparison of statistical analysis and hydrographs in the model validation. SSNNM will help to manage and control water distribution and give basic data to develop long-term coupled operation system in parallel reservoir groups of the Upper Nakdong River.

Purpose: To evaluate the effects of load direction, number of implants, and alignment of implant position on stress distribution in implant, prosthesis, and bone tissue. Materials and Methods: Four 3D models were made to simulate posterior mandible bone block: two implants and 3-unit fixed dental prosthesis (FDP) with a pontic in the center (model M1), two implants and 3-unit FDP with a cantilever pontic at one end (model M2), FDP supported by three implants with straight line placement (model M3) and FDP supported by three implants with staggered implant configuration (model M4). The applied force was 120 N axially or 120 N obliquely. Results: Peak von Mises stresses caused by oblique occlusal force were 3.4 to 5.1 times higher in the implant and 3.5 to 8.3 times higher in the alveolar bone than those stresses caused by axial occlusal force. In model M2, the connector area of the distal cantilever in the prosthesis generated the highest von Mises stresses among all models. With the design of a large number of implants, low stresses were generated. When three implants were placed, there were no significant differences in the magnitude of stress between staggered arrangement and straight arrangement. Conclusion: The effect of staggering alignment on implant stress was negligible. However, the number of implants had a significant effect on stress magnitude.
As people's interest in Virtual Reality has recently increased, peripherals have also made many progress. There is a lot of research being done from VR environment to VR configuration through scanning at room level with various interface devices that can interact with objects in the environment. According to current VR research Home VR uses multiple haptic interfaces to interact with objects configured in the VR environment, the method uses room scanning to some extent is beyond the spatial constraints and may use tracking equipment to interact with real objects. And advances in 3D printers have enabled the distribution of commercial 3D printers and home 3D printers, and made it easy for 3D printers to create models of their choice at home or at home. Considering the above two factors, We think it is necessary to study the difference between a model's object that people feel when interacting directly with an easy-to-create model in a VR environment. Therefore, in this paper, we are going to implement objects produced by 3D printers in VR space and study the differences between using real objects and other general interaction equipment through user testing with those that are actually implemented.

Electric-powered distributed propulsion aircraft possess a complex wake flow and mutual interference with the airframe, due to the use of many propellers. Accordingly, in the early design stage, rapid aerodynamic and load analysis considering the effect of propellers for various configurations and flight conditions are required. In this study, an efficient panel-based aerodynamic analysis method that can take into account the propeller effects is developed and validated. The induced velocity field in the region of propeller wake is calculated based on Actuator Disk Theory (ADT) and is considered as the boundary condition at the vehicle's surface in the three-dimensional steady source-doublet panel method. Analyses are carried out by selecting an isolated propeller of the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI)'s Quad Tilt Propeller (QTP) aircraft and the propeller-wing configuration of the former experimental study as benchmark problems. Through comparisons with the results of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) based on actuator methods, the wake velocity of propeller and the changes in the aerodynamic load distribution of the wing due to the propeller operation are validated. The method is applied to the analysis of the Optional Piloted Personal Aerial Vehicle (OPPAV) and QTP, and the practicality and validity of the method are confirmed through comparison and analysis of the computational time and results with CFD.

This study investigated the behavior of out-of-plane skewed moment connections that were designed as IMFs, as per the Korean standards. A total of 14 finite element models were constructed with the consideration of two types (single- and double-sided connections) and four levels of skew angle (0°, 10°, 20°, and 30°). The results indicated that the skewed connections considered in this study met the acceptance criteria for IMFs given by the codes. However, the load-carrying capacities of skewed connections were decreased as the skew angle increased. For the connection with a skew angle of 30°, the peak load was noted to be 13% less and the energy dissipation capacity could be 26% less than that of non-skewed connection. In addition, because of the skewed nature, the stress distribution in the skewed beam flange near the connection was asymmetric and the stresses were concentrated on the beam inner flange. Column twisting induced by the skewed configuration was very small and negligible in the beam and column combination considered in this study.

Pulse oximetry, a non-invasive technique for evaluating blood oxygen saturation, conventionally depends on isolated measurements, rendering it vulnerable to factors like illumination profile, spatial blood flow fluctuations, and skin pigmentation. Previous efforts to address these issues through imaging systems often employed red and near-infrared illuminations with distinct profiles, leading to inconsistent ratios of transmitted light and the potential for errors in calculating spatial oxygen saturation distributions. While an integrating sphere was recently utilized as an illumination source to achieve uniform red and near-infrared illumination profiles on the sample surface, its bulkiness presented practical challenges. In this work, we have enhanced the pulse oximetry imaging system by transitioning illumination from an integrating sphere to a multi-wavelength LED configuration. This adjustment ensures simultaneous emission of red and near-infrared light from the same position, creating a homogeneous illumination profile on the sample surface. This approach guarantees consistent patterns of red and near-infrared illuminations that are spatially uniform. The sustained ratio between transmitted red and near-infrared light across space enables precise calculation of the spatial distribution of oxygen saturation, making our pulse oximetry imaging system more compact and portable without compromising accuracy. Our work significantly contributes to obtaining spatial information on blood oxygen saturation, providing valuable insights into tissue oxygenation in peripheral regions.
In this study, quasi-3D inundation flow simulations were conducted for a simplified subway station configuration. The effects of variations in rainwater inflow locations and discharge were investigated, analyzing the resulting inundation flow patterns and flood risk. The inundation simulation results calculated the incipient velocities for slipping and toppling accidents to assess pedestrian safety. The results indicated that velocities exceeding the incipient velocity for slipping accidents mainly occurred on the flooded staircase. Meanwhile, velocities surpassing the incipient toppling accidents were observed around the staircase and the corridor near the staircase leading to B2F. This observation is consistent with the results from the specific force distribution analysis. To provide detailed flood risk assessments, the Flood Hazard Degree (FD) was applied with four levels of criteria, along with the Flood Intensity Factor (FIF). The results demonstrated that FD identified a broader area at risk of flood-induced consequences compared to FIF. When comparing the different inundation risk assessment methods, the specific force method tended to overestimate the risk area, whereas FIF tended to underestimate it. Furthermore, among all assessment methods, the influence of rainwater discharge was found to have a more dominant effect on flood risk assessment compared to the number of rainwater inflow locations. Additionally, the direction of inundation flow influenced the assessed risk, with collision-induced flow patterns leading to higher flood risk than those with identical flow directions.
