  • Penetration of distributed generator(DG) to power distribution system can cause malfunction of existing protection schemes. Because grid interconnected DG can contribute fault currents and make bidirectional current flows on the system, fault contributions from DG can cause an interference of protection relay operation. Therefore, over current protection device of the distribution system with DGs need directional protection schemes. In this paper, improved directional protection algorithms are proposed for the distribution system with DG considering their fault characteristics. And than, these directional protection algorithms are tested and validated in various fault conditions. From the simulation results, it can be seen that the proposed directional protection algorithms are practically efficient for the radial distribution system with DG.

  • The installation of small sized dispersed generation(DG) units operating in parallel with the utility supply presents several technical problems for the protection and control of the system. One of the critical concerns is the occurrence of islanding. Hence, this paper propose the Digital Universal Relay(DUR) including anti-islanding function as DG interconnection interface. The existent islanding detection algorithms are examined. And the most effective and reliable method of those is modified for DUR application. The modified algorithm is evaluated through the modeling of the test system by PSCAD/EMTDC.

  • This paper presents the scheme for reliability improvement by dispersed generation system (US) installation and operation in distribution systems. The objective functions such as power losses cost, operation cost of DGS, power buy cost and interruption cost are minimized for reliability improvement. The original objective functions and constraints are transformed into the equivalent multiple objective functions with fuzzy sets to evaluate their imprecise nature. The several indices for reliability evaluation are improved by dispersed generation system installation.

  • In this paper, we studied the effects of intersection angles of the flow-foucusing type droplet generation device inlet channel on droplet diameter using numerical simulation modeling. We modeled different intersection angles with a fixed continuous channel width, dispersed channels width, orifices width, and expansion channels width. Numerical simulations were performed using COMSOL Multiphysics$^{(R)}$ to solve the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations for a two-phase flow in various flow-focusing geometries. Modeling results showed that an increase of the intersection angle causes an increase in the modification of the dispersed flow rate ($v^{\prime}{_d}$), and the increase of the modification of the continuous flow rate ($v^{\prime}{_c}$) obstructs the dispersed phase fluid flow, thereby reducing the droplet diameter. However, the droplet diameter did not decrease, even when the intersection angle increased. The droplet diameter decreased when the intersection angle was less than $90^{\circ}$, increased at an intersection angle of $90^{\circ}$, and decreased when the intersection angle was more than $90^{\circ}$. Furthermore, when the intermediate energy deceased, there was a decrease in the droplet diameter when the intersection angle increased. Therefore, variations in the droplet diameter can be used to change the intersection angle and fluid flow rate.

  • Objectives: Carbon nanotubes are an important new class of technological materials that have numerous novel and useful properties. Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), which is a nanomaterial, is now in mass production because of its excellent mechanical and electrical properties. Although MWCNTs appear to have great industrial and medical potential, there is little information regarding their toxicological effects on researchers and workers who could be exposed to them by inhalation during the handling of MWCNTs. Methods: The generation of an untangled MWCNT aerosol with a consistent concentration without using surfactants that was designed to be tested in in vivo inhalation toxicity testing was attempted. To do this, MWCNTs were dispersed in deionized water without the addition of any surfactant. To facilitate the dispersion of MWCNTs in deionized water, the water was heated to $40^{\circ}C$, $60^{\circ}C$, and $80^{\circ}C$ depending on the sample with ultrasonic sonication. Then the dispersed MWCNTs were atomized to generate the MWCNT aerosol. After aerosolization of the MWCNTs, the shapes of the NTs were examined by transmission electron microscopy. Results: The aerosolized MWCNTs exhibited an untangled shape and the MWCNT generation rate was about 50 $mg/m^3$. Conclusion: Our method provided sufficient concentration and dispersion of MWNCTs to be used for inhalation toxicity testing.

  • In recent years there has been a growing interest in renewable energy systems due to the environmental problem and the economic benefits of fuel savings. Such systems are usually connected to the existing power grid for "fuel displacement" purpose as well as of earning some "capacity credit". Wind power generation system(WPGS) is one of the most useful energy resource using natural environment. So far, it was very difficult to simulate the dispersed generation system including WPGS using EMTP or EMTDC because the source of the dispersed generation system has a particular wind power characteristic equation. In this paper, a novel simulation method of WPGS has proposed and a new wind turbine component for EMTDC is also developed. The wind power characteristic equation of wind turbine is used in order to realize the WPGS in EMTDC simulation. And the real field data of weather conditions is interfaced to EMTDC using Fortran program interface method. Consequently the simulation of WPGS using field data is realized in this paper and shows acceptable results.

  • This paper presents a fuzzy-GA method to resolve dispersed generator placement for distribution systems. The problem formulation considers an objective to reduce power loss costs of distribution systems and the constraints with the number or size of dispersed generators and the deviation of the bus voltage. The main idea of solving fuzzy nonlinear goal programming is to transform the original objective function and constraints into the equivalent multi-objectives functions with fuzzy sets to evaluate their imprecise nature and solve the problem using the proposed genetic algorithm, without any transformation for this nonlinear problem to a linear model or other methods. The method proposed is applied to the sample systems to demonstrate its effectiveness.

  • Mathematical models for char-slag interaction and near-wall particle segregation developed by Montagnaro et. al. were applied to predict various aspects of coal gasification in an up-flow entrained gasifier of commercial scale. For this purpose, some computer simulations were performed using gPROMS as the numerical solver. Typical design parameters and operating conditions of the commercial gasifiers were used as input values for the simulation. Development of a densely dispersed phase of solid carbon was found to have a critical effect on both carbon conversion and ash flow behavior. In general, such a slow-moving phase was turned out to enhance carbon conversion by lengthening the residence time of char or soot particles. Furthermore, it was also found that guiding the transfer of char or soot into the closer part of the wall to coal burner is favorable in terms of gasification efficiency and vitrified ash collection. Finally, to a certain degree densely dispersed phase of carbon showed an yield-enhancing effect of syngas.

  • Electric power has traditionally been supplied to the demander through power generation, its transmission, and final distribution system. It is, however, expected that the various dispersed power system will be located near demanders and act as a power source based on the efficient management of electric power demanders and the optimal utilization of substitute energy. More stable electric power and efficient utilization of various power sources can be guranteed through the connection of the dispersed power system into the existing power system. It is the purpose of this study that, in the case of the connection of dispersed power system into the existing distribution line, effects of the connection on the power quality and plans for protection of power equipments are discussed and solutions of them are proposed.
