  • A series of monoazo disperse dyes based on 2-amino-4-phenylthiazole was prepared using various N,N-dialkvlaniline derivatives as the coupling component. The dyes were characterized by IR spectral studies, visible absorption spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The dyeing performance of these dyes was assessed on cellulose triacetate and nylon fibers. These dyes were found to give a wide range of colour shades varying from bright red to royal blue with very good depth, brightness and levelness on fibers. The dyed fibers showed good to very good light fastness and very good to excellent fastness to washing, perspiration, rubbing and sublimation. The dyebath exhaustion and fixation on the fibers were found to be very good.

  • In order to obtain tasic information for solvent dyeing, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) films was pretreated with water, tetrachloroethylene (TCE) and water/TCE emulsion for three hours at $140^{\circ}C$ for stabilizing the substrate. By film roll cyliderical method, Disperse Red 60, Disperse Yellow 42, and Disperse Blue 27 were diffused in the films and examined dyeing properties. The results are summarized as follows; 1) Diffusion coefficient increases in the order, waterTCE>water/TCE 2) A linear relationship between diffusion coefficient and shrinkage was Observed 3) The temperature dependence of the diffusion coefficient can't be expressed by WLF equation.

  • A simple method for real-time monitoring the molecular orientation in a polymeric film was suggested. This method was examined in the polarization holograms by two recording beams on a poly(malonic ester) containing disperse red 1. The spatial distributions of the photo-induced alignment were measured and analyzed at various polarization states of two recording beams. As the result, the directions of molecular alignments could be identified easily by our method.

  • Coagulation process using aluminum sulfate ($Al_2(SO_4)_3$) and ferric chloride ($FeCl_3$) was employed as a treatment method for decolorization of a synthetic textile wastewater containing red dye in this paper. Factors such as initial pH, coagulant dosage, initial concentration, conductivity and mixing conditions that influence color removal efficiency were experimentally tested. It was found that $Al_2(SO_4)_3$ is more efficient than $FeCl_3$ as coagulant. When $40mgL^{-1}$ aluminum sulfate was used, results showed that color induced by the red dye was efficiently removed (> 90 %) and was obtained in a large range of initial pH from 4 to 8 with, and for a dye concentration lower than $235mg\;L^{-1}$. After addition of the coagulant, the medium had to be mixed for 30 min at 60 rpm, then allowed to settle for 40 min. The effects of water conductivity in the range $0.035-2.42mS\;cm^{-1}$ and dye concentration up to $380mg\;L^{-1}$ were also followed and discussed.

  • Poly(trimethylene terephthalate)(PTT) and Poly(ethylene terephthalate)(PET) fibers were annealed at various temperatures ranging from $100^\circ{C}$ to $230^\circ{C}$ for 10 min under tension and tension free. Dyeing rates and absorption isotherms of both fibers were obtained with C.I. Disperse Red 60 at 100, 120 and $130^\circ{C}$ in water system. Also X-ray diffraction pattern, moisture regain and water absorption were investigated. The dyeing rate of PTT fiber is faster than PET fiber, and dyeing of PTT fiber begin at lower temperature compared to PET fiber. The absorption isotherms from both fibers with disperse dye we nearly linear up to the saturation dye uptake, which increase with dyeing temperature. Equilibrium dye uptake of PTT fiber annealed under tension above $180^\circ{C}$ was remarkably decreased because of a changes in the fine structure of fiber. The intensities of X-ray diffraction peaks of both annealed fibers were increased with increasing in annealed temperature. The reflections observed at $2\theta$=$15.8^\circ$, $24^\circ$ and $25.2^\circ$ were assigned reflection of crystal at the planes of (010), $(1\bar02,\;\bar112),\;and\;(\bar13,\; \bar113)$ respectively, and the peak became sharp with heat setting temperature.

  • Absorption and luminescence characteristics of disperse red-19 (DR-19) and $TiO_2$ composite have been investigated with various poling electric field strengths. Two step synthetic processes were employed to employ the DR-19 to the $TiO_2$ sol-gel. Firstly, urethane bond formation between DR-19 (-OH) and 3-isocyanatopropyl triethoxysilane (ICPTES, -N=C=O) performed (ICPDR) prior incorporation to the $TiO_2$ sol-gel. Secondary, the hydrolysis of the ethoxy group from the ICPTES and condensation reaction between silanol groups from ICPTES and $TiO_2$ sol-gel were performed. The ICPDR and $TiO_2$ sol-gel ($DRTiO_2$) were mixed and stirred for several days. The composite was coated to the ITO coated glass substrate. Corona poling were performed before drying the composite with various electric field strengths. The absorption intensity decreased with the increase of the poling field strength, which resulted in the increase of poling efficiency. The photoluminescence also decreased as the poling field strength increased. There is long luminescence tail for the poled $DRTiO_2$ film compared with unpoled $DRTiO_2$ film. The luminescence long tail indicates that the self-trapped excitons and polarons were generated when the $DRTiO_2$ film was poled with electric field.

  • This Study was made to investigate alkaline dyeing systems for a new dyeing applicable polyester fibers. Disperse dyes for dyeing of polyester fibers were C.I. Red 60, Blue 56 and Yellow 54 as three primary colors of E type which used widely on the scene. Dyeing properties of dispers dyes on the polyester fibers are discussed according to variation of pH values for application of alkaline dyeing method compared with to ordinary acidic dyebath. Alkaline pH of the dyebath was controlled to pH 9 and 10.5 with buffer solutions using each hydrochloride and disodiumtetraborate, disodiumtetraborate and sodium hydroxide to promote the reproducibility of dyeing. Dyeing properties of dispers dyes on the polyester fibers by alkaline dyeing method compared with to ordinary acidic dyebath were discussed by estimation of color, wash-fastness, bleeding and migration of dyed polyester fabric.

  • Nylon 6 and polyester taffeta fabrics are dyed in aqueous medium with vat dyes such as Indanthren Red FBB, Mikethren Blue ACE and Mikethren Blue HR varying the compositions of sodium hydrosulfite and NaOH. Also nylon UMF nonwoven and polyester UMF knitted fabrics are dyed with metal complex and disperse dyes as a reference, and the wash and rubbing fastnesses for these dyes are investigated. In vat dyeing of polyester and nylon taffeta, an optimum composition of sodium hydrosulfite/NaOH is existed at a range of 1∼2wt%/0.2wt%. A good build-up property for Mikethren Blue ACE on nylon 6 UMF nonwoven fabric is shown at high temperature. Vat dyeing of polyester with Mikethren Blue Ace shows a good color shade in a higher temperature, while dyeing with Mitsui Blue HR shows low temperatures. Vat dyes In dyeing of both nylon 6 UMF nonwoven and polyester UMF knitted fabrics have a better wash fastnesses compared with metal complex or disperse dyes.
