An efficient joint disparity and motion estimation for stereoscopic video coding (변이-움직임 동시 추정을 이용한 스테레오 동영상 부호화 기법)

  • 본 논문에서는 변이-움직임 벡터의 상관관계를 통한 동시 추정(joint disparity and motion estimation)을 이용하여 방대한 계산량과 데이터량을 요구하는 스테레오 영상 데이터의 효율적인 부호화를 위한 알고리즘을 제안한다. 스테레오 시퀀스에 대해서 두 변이 벡터(disparity vector)와 하나의 움직임 벡터(motion vector)의 상관관계를 이용하면 나머지 움직임 벡터는 직접적인 추정 과정 없이 얻을 수 있다. 하지만, 이렇게 얻어진 움직임 벡터는 직접 추정에 비해 정확도가 현저히 떨어져 이 벡터를 그대로 사용하여 영상을 복원하게 될 경우 심각한 오차의 누적이 발생한다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 효율적인 동시 추정을 위해 추정단에서 벡터 평활화(vector regularization)과정을 수행하고 불확실 벡터 영역 추출을 통한 선택적인 보정 과정을 수행한다. 또한, 불확실 벡터 영역의 벡터만을 가변장 부호화(variable length coding)한다. 실험결과, 직접 추정 과정을 거치지 않고 도 만족할 만한 화질의 영상을 얻을 수 있었으며, 부호화량도 상당히 감소시킬 수 있었다.

Stereo Object Tracking and Multiview image Reconstruction System Using Disparity Motion Vector (시차 움직임 벡터에 기반한 스데레오 물체추적 및 다시점 영상복원 시스템)

  • In this paper, a new stereo object tracking system using the disparity motion vector is proposed. In the proposed method, the time-sequential disparity motion vector can be estimated from the disparity vectors which are extracted from the sequence of the stereo input image pair and then using these disparity motion vectors, the area where the target object is located and its location coordinate are detected from the input stereo image. Being based on this location data of the target object, the pan/tilt embedded in the stereo camera system can be controlled and as a result, stereo tracking of the target object can be possible. From some experiments with the 2 frames of the stereo image pairs having 256$\times$256 pixels, it is shown that the proposed stereo tracking system can adaptively track the target object with a low error ratio of about 3.05$\%$ on average between the detected and actual location coordinates of the target object.

  • This paper proposes a detection algorithm for view reversal in a stereoscopic video using a disparity map and motion vector field. We obtain the disparity map of a stereo image was obtained using a specific stereo matching algorithm and classify the image into the foreground and background. Next, the motion vector field of the image on a block basis was produced using a full search algorithm. Finally, the stereo image was considered to be reversed when the foreground moved toward the background and the covered region was in the foreground. The proposed algorithm achieved a good detection rate when the background was covered sufficiently by its moving foreground.

  • This paper presents an efficient joint disparity-motion estimation algorithm for stereo sequence CODEC. Disparity vectors are estimated by the left and right motion vectors and previous disparity vectors for every frame. In order to obtain more accurate disparity vectors. we include a spatial prediction Process after the feint estimation. From joint estimation and spatial prediction, we can obtain accurate disparity vectors and then Increase coding efficiency. Finally, we proposed the backward quadtree decomposition. which helps the encoder to have a more detailed disparity vector map without transmitting additional coding bits for quadtree information. We confirmed superior performance of the proposed method through computer simulation.

  • In this paper, a new stereo object tracking system using the disparity motion vector is proposed.   • This paper suggests a feature point-based Iterative Closest Point (ICP) algorithm to compensate for the disparity error in building a two-dimensional map. The ICP algorithm is a typical algorithm for matching a common object in two different images. In the process of building a two-dimensional map using the laser scanner data, warping and distortions exist in the map because of the disparity between the two sensor values. The ICP algorithm has been utilized to reduce the disparity error in matching the scanned line data. For this matching process in the conventional ICP algorithm, pre-known reference data are required. Since the proposed algorithm extracts characteristic points from laser-scanned data, reference data are not required for the matching. The laser scanner starts from the right side of the mobile robot and ends at the left side, which causes disparity in the scanned line data. By finding the matching points between two consecutive frame images, the motion vector of the mobile robot can be obtained. Therefore, the disparity error can be minimized by compensating for the motion vector caused by the mobile robot motion. The validity of the proposed algorithm has been verified by comparing the proposed algorithm in terms of map-building accuracy to conventional ICP algorithm real experiments.

  • In the conventional floating display system some image distortions might be occurred in the floating image plane, in which a flat screen has been mostly used for providing an adequate input image plane. In this paper, as a new approach to alleviate image distortion problem in a floating display system, a curved screen is suggested by through some computer simulation using an optics design program of Light Tools.

  • 다시점 영상은 관찰자가 원하는 시점을 선택할 수 있고, 자연스러운 입체감을 제공한다. 하지만 카메라의 수가 증가함에 따라 데이터양이 늘어나는 단점이 있다. 본 논문은 시.공간적 상관성을 고려한 시점 간 움직임 벡터 예측 기법을 제안한다. 인접한 시점의 영상이 비슷한 움직임 정보를 가지는 특징을 이용해 현재 블록의 움직임 벡터의 예측간을 계산한다. 또한 시간적으로 연속한 프레임의 경우 비슷한 변이 벡터를 가지므로, 이전 프레임의 변이 벡터 정보를 현재 매크로블록의 변이벡터로 활용하는 방법을 제안한다.

  • In this paper, we propose a new fast algorithm which reduces search range by checking reliability of predicted vector in multi-view video coding (MVC). Block position matching algorithm is implemented to improve the proposed algorithm. The processing time is decreased by from 40 to 60% in each frame in the proposed algorithm.
