  • The state-space average model is extended to buck-boost, and buck-boost topology switching mode DC/DC converters and modified to have higher precision without increment of computation. The modified model is used in continuous conduction mode(CCM) switching DC/DC converters and some significant conclusions are derived. This paper discusses the discontinuous conduction mode(DCM) modeling of DC/DC converter and critical characteristic using average model of switch. Average model of switch approach is expended to the modeling of boundary conduction mode DC/DC converters that operate at the boundary between continuous conduction mode(CCM) and discontinuous conduction mode(DCM). Frequency responses predicted by the average model of switch are verified by simulation and experiment. A prototype featuring 15[V] input voltage, 24[V] output voltage, and 24[W] output power using MOSFET.

  • The solar array regulator for low earth orbit satellites controls a operating point of solar array for suppling electric power to the battery and the other units. Because the control object is reversed, the new approach for large and small signal analysis is needed despite using buck-converter for power stage. In this paper, the steady state analysis of solar array regulator is performed in continuous conduction mode and discontinuous conduction mode, and the border condition for each mode is established. Also, the small signal model of solar array regulator is established in discontinuous conduction mode. Experiments are carried on in worst condition which the solar array regulator can face with discontinuous conduction mode. The results show that the solar array regulator is in stable.

  • In this paper a new current control method is proposed for the discontinuous conduction mode of boost converter. The proposed method using a current gain feedforward compensation adjusts a measured inductor current value and then, calculated an average current precisely in the discontinuous conduction mode as well as continuous conduction mode. By applying the proposed method, the current measurement error is significantly reduced to 2% regardless of the operating points. The proposed method is analyzed and its performance is investigated in simulation. To verify the feasibility of the proposed scheme, a 10kW 3-phase interleaved boost converter was built and experimental results are matched to the simulation results.

  • In this paper, a DC and small-signal AC modeling for the active-clamp, ful1-bridge boost converter is described. Based on the operation principle, the ac part of the converter can be replaced by a dc counterpart. Then, a conceptual equivalent circuit is derived by rearranging the switches. The equivalent circuit for this converter consists of CCM(Continuous conduction mode) boost and DCM(Discontinuous conduction mode) buck converter. The analyses for the equivalent CCM boost and DCM buck converter are done using the model of PWM switch. The theoretical modeling results are confirmed through experiment or SIMPLIS simulation.

  • In this study, discrete-time domain analysis is proposed to investigate the input current of a buck AC/DC light-emitting diode (LED) driver. The buck power factor correction converter can operate in both discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) and continuous conduction mode (CCM). Two discontinuous and two continuous conduction operating modes are possible depending on which event terminates the conduction of the main switch in a switching cycle. All four operating modes are considered in the discrete-time domain analysis. The peak current-mode control with slope compensation is used to design a low-cost AC/DC LED driver. A slope compensation design of the buck AC/DC LED driver is described on the basis of a discrete-time domain analysis. Experimental results are presented to confirm the usefulness of the proposed analysis.

  • Generally, power factor correction (PFC) techniques play an important role in the power supply technology. Many new circuit topologies and control strategies for PFC have been proposed. Among them, the brideless PFC (BPFC) reduces the number of switching devices and the losses and improves the power density as well. Moreover, by implementing the improved topology in the discontinous conduction mode (DCM) it ensures almost unity power factor in a simple and effective manner. In the DCM operation gives additional advantages such as zero-current turn-on in the power switches, zero-current turn-off in the output diode and reduces the complexity of the control circuitry. In this paper, a new control strategy for the BPFC is proposed. Also, the performance of the proposed system is demonstrated through experiments.

  • In generally, grid connected single-phase flyback inverter is operated as boundary or discontinuous conduction mode. However, the flyback inverter can be operated in continuous conduction mode (CCM) due to its operating conditions in spite of it is designed to operate under boundary or discontinuous conduction mode. This situation causes unintended distortion to output current. In this paper, a current shaping method on unfolding bridge to reduce the output current distortion.

  • This paper presents a novel Power Factor Corrected(PFC) single-stage AC/DC Half-Bridge converter, which features discontinuous conduction mode(DCM) and soft-switching. The reduced conduction losses are achieved by the employment of a novel power factor correction circuitry, instead of the conventional configuration composed of a front-end rectifier followed by a boost converter. To identify the validity of the proposed converter, simulated results of 500[W] converter with 100[V] input voltage and 50[V] output voltage are presented.
