Nucleate pool boiling experiments for R11 under a constant wall temperature condition were carried out. A microscale heater array was used for the heating and the measurement of high temporal and spatial resolution by the Wheatstone bridge circuit. Very sensitive heat flow rate data were obtained by the control for the surface condition with high time resolution. The measured heat flow rate shows a discernable peak at the initial growth stage and reaches an almost constant value. In the thermal growth region, bubble shows a growth proportional to $t^{\frac{1}{5}}$. The bubble growth behavior is analyzed with a dimensionless parameter to compare with the previous results in the same scale. As the wall superheat increases, the departure diameter and the departure time increase, and the waiting time decreases. But the asymptotic growth rate is not affected by the wall superheat change. The effect of the wall superheat is resolved into the suggested growth equation. Dimensionless parameters of time and bubble radius characterize the thermal growth behavior well, irrespective of wall condition. The comparison between the result of this study and the previous results shows a good agreement at the thermal growth region. The quantitative analysis for the heat transfer mechanism is conducted with the measured heat flow rate behavior and the bubble growth behavior. The required heat flow rate for the volume change of the observed bubble is about twice as much as the instantaneous heat flow rate supplied from the wall.

The types of dam-break have been classified as instantaneous and gradual failure. Equations for estimating the peak outflow have been derived respectively as a metric unit. New dimensionless routing curves have been deveoloped based on the distance parameter which has been used in SMPDBK and hydro-geometric characteristics of dams and reservoirs in Korea. These suggested curves can be used for any case of the flow of supercritical or subcritical. The computed peak flowrate shows the trend of decreasing dependence on the Froude numbers as it increases. These curves are applied to Hyogi dam. and the results have good agreements with the data observed in the peak discharges, peak elevations and flood travel time. The simplified dam-break model in this study would contribute effectively to forecast the dam-break flood in this country with minimum informations in a short time.

The local scour in waves can be thought of as very complex synthetic processes which is influenced by geology of bed material, bed flow in the sea and hydraulics condition. The most research until now be targeted at the scour depth and therefore the local scour width in waves has not been investigated as well. The size of wave or bottom velocity at the bed is direct cause of the local scour among lots of the scour effect factors, and the scour depth and width can be estimated through interrelationship analysis with scour area to use the dimensionless parameters including these such as Keulegan-Carpenter number, Ursell number etc. In this paper, to find out closely relation with the dimensionless parameters and scour width, performed an experiment with the variations of pipe diameters, wave heights and wave periods and then analyzed it. As the result, while Reynolds number and period parameter were seen to disperse local scour width largely, Shields number, KC number and Ursell number appeared good interrelationship. Specially, Shields number doesn't much affect the scour depth but has good relation for the scour width.

The heat transfer characteristics of the drag reducing polymer solutions are investigated experimentally in the thermal entrance region of circular tube flows. Fluids used in experiments are the aqueous solutions of high molecular polymer, polyacrylamide Separan AP-273 and the range of polymer concentrations is from 20 to 1000 wppm. Two stainless steel tubes with inside diameter 8.5mm(L/D=712) and 10.3mm(L/D=1160) are used for the heat transfer flow loops. The flow loop is set up to measure friction factors and heat transfer coefficients of test sections in two different modes; the recirculating flow system and once-through flow system. The test tubes are heated directly by electricity to apply the constant heat flux boundary conditions to the wall. Three different types of adaptors are used to observe the effects of the upstream flow conditions of the heat transfer test sections. The viscosity and characteristic relaxation time of the test fluids circulating in the flow system are measured by the capillary tube viscometer and falling ball viscometer at regular time intervals. The installed adaptors exhibit slight effect on the entrance heat transfer of Newtonian fluid. However, no noticeable effects are observed for the entrance heat transfer of the drag reducing fluids. The order of magnitude of the thermal entrance lengths of the drag reducing fluids which follow the minimum friction asymptote is much longer than that of Newtonian fluids in turbulent flows. A new dimensionless parameter, the viscoelastic Graetz number, is defined and all the experimental data are recasted in terms of the viscoelastic Graetz number. The local Nusselt number of the viscoelastic fluids is represented as a function of flow behavior index n and the viscoelastic Graetz number. As degradation continues the viscosity and the characteristic relaxation time of the testing fluids decrease. Weissenberg number defined by the relaxation time and D/V appears to be a proper dimensionless parameter in describing degradation effects on heat transfer of the viscoelastic fluids.
The lateral soil movement in soft grounds undergoing improvement with application of vertical drains is analyzed on the basis of monitoring data at three fields, in which fifty six monitoring sites are located. Based on the investigations, the criterions are suggested to predict the lateral soil movement. In order to predict the lateral soil movement in the improved soft grounds by using the dimensionless parameter R suggested by Marche & Chapuis (1974), it is desirable that the maximum lateral displacement in the soft ground below the toe of embankment should be applied to calculate R instead of the lateral displacement at the toe of embankment. The lateral soil movement may increase rapidly, if the safety factor of slope is less than 1.4 in case of high ratio of H/B (Thickness of soft ground/Embankment width) such as 1.15 or is less than 1.2 in case of low ratio of H/B such as 0.05. Also, the graph suggested by Tschebotarioff (1973), which illustrates the relationship between the maximum height of embankments and the undrained shear strength of soft grounds, can be applied to the evaluation for the possibility of the lateral soil movement due to embankments on soft grounds.
Using a cosmological ${\Lambda}CDM$ simulation, we analyze the differences between the widely-used spin parameters suggested by Peebles and Bullock. The dimensionless spin parameter ${\lambda}$ proposed by Peebles is theoretically well-justified but includes an annoying term, the potential energy, which cannot be directly obtained from observations and is computationally expensive to calculate in numerical simulations. The Bullock's spin parameter ${\lambda}^{\prime}$ avoids this problem assuming the isothermal density profile of a virialized halo in the Newtonian potential model. However, we find that there exists a substantial discrepancy between ${\lambda}$ and ${\lambda}^{\prime}$ depending on the adopted potential model (Newtonian or Plummer) to calculate the halo total energy and that their redshift evolutions differ to each other significantly. Therefore, we introduce a new spin parameter, ${\lambda}^{\prime\prime}$, which is simply designed to roughly recover the value of ${\lambda}$ but to use the same halo quantities as used in ${\lambda}^{\prime}$. If the Plummer potential is adopted, the ${\lambda}^{\prime\prime}$ is related to the Bullock's definition as ${\lambda}^{\prime\prime}=0.80{\times}(1+z)^{-1/12}{\lambda}^{\prime}$. Hence, the new spin parameter ${\lambda}^{\prime\prime}$ distribution becomes consistent with a log-normal distribution frequently seen for the ${\lambda}^{\prime}$ while its mean value is much closer to that of ${\lambda}$. On the other hand, in case of the Newtonian potential model, we obtain the relation of ${\lambda}^{\prime\prime}=(1+z)^{-1/8}{\lambda}^{\prime}$; there is no significant difference at z = 0 as found by others but ${\lambda}^{\prime}$ becomes more overestimated than ${\lambda}$ or ${\lambda}^{\prime\prime}$ at higher redshifts. We also investigate the dependence of halo spin parameters on halo mass and redshift. We clearly show that although the ${\lambda}^{\prime}$ for small-mass halos with $M_h$ < $2{\times}10^{12}M_{\odot}$ seems redshift independent after z = 1, all the spin parameters explored, on the whole, show a stronger correlation with the increasing halo mass at higher redshifts.

The dynamic softening mechanisms of AISI 316, AISI 304 and AISI 430 stainless steels were studied with torsion test in the temperature range of $900 - 1200^{\circ}C$ and the strain rate range of $5.0x10^{-2}-5.0x10^0/sec$. The austenitic stainless steels, such as AISI 316 and AISI 304 were softened by dynamic recrystallization (DRX) during hot deformation. Also, the evolutions of flow stress and microstructure of AISI 430 ferritic stainless steel show the characteristics of continuous dynamic recrystallization (CDRX). To establish the quantitative equations for DRX of AISI 316 stainless steel, the evolution of flow stress curve with strain was analyzed. The critical strain (${\varepsilon}_c$) and strain for maximum softening rate (${\varepsilon}^{*}$) could be confirmed by the analysis of work hardening rate ($d{\sigma}/d{\varepsilon}={\theta}$). The volume fraction of dynamic recrystallization ($X_{DRX}$) as a function of processing variables, such as strain rate ( $\varepsilon$ ), temperature (T), and strain ( $\varepsilon$ ) were established using the ${\epsilon}_c$ and ${\varepsilon}^{*}$. For the exact prediction the ${\varepsilon}_c,\;{\varepsilon}^{*}$ and Avrami' exponent (m') were quantitatively expressed by dimensionless parameter, Z/A, respectively. It was found that the calculated results were agreed with the experimental data for the steels at my deformation conditions. Also, we can reasonably conclude that the DRX, CDRX and grain refinement of stainless steels can be achieved by large strain deformation at high Z parameter condition.

The differential quadrature method (DQM) for a system of coupled differential equations governing the elastic stability of thin-walled curved members is presented, and is applied to computation of the eigenvalues of out-of-plane buckling of curved beams subjected to uniformly distributed radial loads including a warping contribution. Critical loads with warping, which were found to be significant, are calculated for a single-span wide-flange beam with various end conditions, opening angles, and stiffness parameters. The results are compared with the exact methods available. New results are given for the case of both ends clamped and clamped-simply supported ends without comparison since no data are available The differential quadrature method gives good accuracy and stability compared with previous theoretical results.

In this research, the dynamic instability region (DIR) of the sandwich nano-beams are investigated based on nonlocal strain gradient elasticity theory (NSGET) and various higher order shear deformation beam theories (HSDBTs). The sandwich piezoelectric nano-beam is including a homogenous core and face-sheets reinforced with functionally graded (FG) carbon nanotubes (CNTs). In present study, three patterns of CNTs are employed in order to reinforce the top and bottom face-sheets of the beam. In addition, different higher-order shear deformation beam theories such as trigonometric shear deformation beam theory (TSDBT), exponential shear deformation beam theory (ESDBT), hyperbolic shear deformation beam theory (HSDBT), and Aydogdu shear deformation beam theory (ASDBT) are considered to extract the governing equations for different boundary conditions. The beam is subjected to thermal and electrical loads while is resting on Visco-Pasternak foundation. Hamilton principle is used to derive the governing equations of motion based on various shear deformation theories. In order to analysis of the dynamic instability behaviors, the linear governing equations of motion are solved using differential quadrature method (DQM). After verification with validated reference, comprehensive numerical results are presented to investigate the influence of important parameters such as various shear deformation theories, nonlocal parameter, strain gradient parameter, the volume fraction of the CNTs, various distributions of the CNTs, different boundary conditions, dimensionless geometric parameters, Visco-Pasternak foundation parameters, applied voltage and temperature change on the dynamic instability characteristics of sandwich piezoelectric nano-beam.
This work aims to present a solution for the buckling behavior of perforated nano/microbeams with deformable boundary conditions using nonlocal strain gradient theory (NLSGT). For the first time, a solution that can provide buckling loads based on the non-local and strain gradient effects of perforated nanostructures on an elastic foundation, while taking into account both deformable and rigid boundary conditions. Stokes' transformation and Fourier series are used to realize this aim and determine the buckling loads under various boundary conditions. We employ the NLSGT to account for size-dependent effects and utilize the Winkler model to formulate the elastic foundation. The buckling behavior of the perforated nano/microbeams restrained with lateral springs at both ends is studied for various parameters such as the number of holes, the length and filling ratio of the perforated beam, the internal length, the nonlocal parameter and the dimensionless foundation parameter. Our results indicate that the number of holes and filling ratio significantly affect the buckling response of perforated nano/microbeams. Increasing the filling ratio increases buckling loads, while increasing the number of holes decreases buckling loads. The effects of the non-local and internal length parameters on the buckling behavior of the perforated nano/microbeams are also discussed. These material length parameters have opposite effects on the variation of buckling loads. This study presents an effective eigenvalue solution based on Stokes' transformation and Fourier series of the restrained nano/microbeams under the effects of elastic medium, perforation parameters, deformable boundaries and nonlocal strain gradient elasticity for the first time.
