  • Technology for compressing low-bitrate multichannel audio coding is being standardized owing to the increasing need of consumer for multichannel audio contents. In this paper we propose the sound source location cue coding (SSLCC) for extremely compressing multichannel audio to be suitable at the narrow bandwidth transmission environment. To improve the compression capability of the conventional binaural cue coding(BCC), the SSLCC adopts the virtual source location information (VSLI) as a spatial cue parameter, a symmetric uniform quantizer, and Huffman coder. The objective and subjective assessment results show that the SSLCC provides lower bitrate and better audio quality than conventional BCC method.

  • The rapid increase in the penetration rate and diverse utility of smart devices opens an opportunity for a development in creating a user-oriented ubiquitous system. And it allows audiences to deploy the exhibition-helping contents regardless of the restriction of place and time with using the smart devices of audience themselves. Also it needs to build a mobile web-based portal system for the related services. To do this, Firstly, it needs the corresponding strategies on a smartphone-based environment such as technical competence, systematic preparation of exhibition with compatible mobile contents, and a compatible channel for interactivity. Secondly, it needs the differentiation of exhibition guide with the existing system: an adoption of augmented reality, panoramic technology and simulation effect aiming for an improvement in a sense of immersion and reality for audience, and building up additional contents with a diversity of formats of image, sound, and video for customer satisfaction.

  • This study delves into how the equalizer can compensate for a sound pressure of lost frequencies. The targeted audiences are senior citizens who have difficulties hearing high-frequency because of a decline of audio frequency. Through investigations, this study confirms that the reason why reduction of high-frequency hearing increases depending on senescence. By considering the features of audio frequency of senior citizens, it also clarifies the necessity of equalizer reflecting features of audio frequency for the senior citizens, which have dramatically increased in Korea. There are application programs having functions, which provide several options of equalizer setup that people can adjust it depending on their own audio frequency. Some of them provide different equalizer setup depending on age. This study, however, reveals that they are not fully enough to compensate for the range of hearing loss of the senior citizens. Therefore, by pointing out limitations of existing functions and suggesting improvements, this study explores the way of improvements that enhance the sound transmissions of digital media contents for senior citizens.

  • In recent years, studies in BCI game with popular BCI devices are progressing actively by the development of BCI(Brain Computer Interface) techniques. Most of BCI games have developed as experimental contents for researching. On the game control paradigm, it is insufficient to conduct a study about induced methods of proper barinwave to control the BCI game. In this study, we suggest a rhythm game using BCI which has a new play element that visualizes the rhythm of music and represents the notes of music in sound and a generation method of visual-auditory feedback through the synchronization of the tempo of music with brainwave. Experimental Results make certain that our suggestion is possible for the improvement of game score through the induction of brainwave that is necessary to control the game.

  • The infringement of the copyright is a problem by the distribution of digital contents copied illegally. The digital watermark is expected as a thing preventing unjust copying by burying information in digital data such as image, animation, the sound, TV, radio and movies. [1] [2]But a noise is included in a digital watermark reproduction image. So there is the case that the certification of the reproduction image has difficulty with. If a computer cannot recognize the information reproduced from digital watermarking, the information does not have a meaning. This paper aimed at improvement of the proof of a digital-watermarking reproduction image. And it is verified whether the difference of the form of a character affects the degree of correlation.

  • In this study, the relationship of images and sounds of the animations "Dots" and "Loops" which Norman McLaren animated with his Animated sound technique when he worked at Guggenheim museum at New York, are analyzed through the audiovisual analysis theory by Michel Chion, and through the theory of synchronism/asynchronism and parallelism/counterpoint by Siegfried Kracauer. For the results of the analysis, there are a few difference between "Dots" and "Loops" regarding the aspect of sound arrangement and expressive aspect of abstract animation. However, there are being of two main elements of sound, composing with monophony sound, making musical structure with sound effects, and the emphasizing of parallelism with synchronization bewteen images and sounds in common with both "Dots" and "Loops". In "Dots" and "Loops", there are close correlations between pitch of sound and arrangement/shape of image, between loudness of sound and size of image, and between length of sound and length/shape of image. The image and sound of "Dots" and "Loops" have equal relationship each other, rather than subordinate relationship according as image become sound and the sound become new image with the animated sound technique. "Dots" and "Loops" show tendency of minimal art and music video. Since these two films, and remind about the new approach to sound creation in today's animation production.

  • Digital technology continually makes a space evolves. The real-time behavior design communicates the data with the situation of circumference of the space(visitors moving, interior and exterior situations). The space form was changed because it interfaces in real time. The purpose of this study was finding out the characteristics of real-time behavior space design through the analysis of space formative languages, sensorium, S-R and material. This study will be the one of basic references for the digital space design. The boundary of this study set limits to the works of digital space designer who applies the real-time exchanging data to their design among the digital space design works from 1996 to 2004. But it excepted from the real-time behavior space in virtual realty. Therefore, the objects of this study were the works of onl and NOX(paraSITE, Trans-port 2001, Muscle, MotormeCCa, Handdrawspace, Saltwater Pavilion, Son-O-House, H2O Expo). The method was the contents analysis of space formative languages(Greg Lynn's ten space formative languages; bleb, blob, branch, flower, fold, lattice, teeth, shred, skins and strand), sensorium, S-R and material. The results of the study are as follows: 1) The organizational elements; Space formative languages(bleb, blob, fold, shred, skins, strand), stimulation(Human Participation, Human Moving, Weather Conditions), and response(Spatial Moving, Sound Pattern, Lighting Pattern, color Pattern, Activating Particles, Moving Picture, Virtual Friend) 2) The material Use; Sound, lights, and network have been used in the space. Immaterial matter will be used the main material of space design in 21"'century, 3)The spatial types; formal changing of space, projecting immaterial elements, and changing the sound.

  • The development of digital technology has not only led to the development of expressive technology, but also to change in the process of production, expression media, production formats and methods, and communication with the audience. In one form, motion poster using LCD display instead of paper poster was introduced. This not only suggests the generation of posters with sound and movement on the ground, but also the possibility of expansion using the features of a platform called LCD displays. As part of this extension, this paper focuses on the "interactions" element and suggests a new interactive motion poster.
