The differential gear system is a device designed to distribute the driving force of both vehicle wheels and control the rotational speed when the vehicle turns on a curve. The differential device consists of a differential gear case, a ring gear, and a pressure ring. A differential pinion gear and side gear are mounted on the differential pinion shaft inside the differential gear case. In this study, a pin press-fitting device that mounts the pinier gear and side gear to the differential pinion shaft in the differential gear case was designed, and a jig device for pin press-fitting using servo press was developed. In addition, by precisely measuring the pin press-in load and press-in distance according to the pin hole diameter of the differential gear shaft, the optimization of the pin pressin process was established.
A vehicle's differential gear is a device designed to allow the vehicle's outer wheels to turn faster than the inner wheels when turning on a curve. The differential gear case is the main component of the differential gear system, which is composed of ring gear, pinion gear and side gear, and is fastened by pinion shaft pins. The differential gear case rotates when the vehicle is running, so balancing calibration is very important. In this study, a balancing machine that can diagnose and correct the differential gear case and mass imbalance of various rotating bodies was designed. The differential gear case was rotated at high speed to accurately diagnose the location and value of the unbalanced mass, and it was designed to be balanced and corrected by removing the unbalanced mass by drilling. After calibration, it was confirmed that the unbalanced value of all the measured samples was reduced to less than 180g.mm, and the unbalance reduction ratio was improved to 60~70%.
The power train of a concrete truck mixer reducer includes differential planetary gears to get a large reduction ratio for operating the mixer drum in a compact structure. These differential planetary gears are a very important part of the mixer reducer where strength problems are the main concern. Gear bending stress, gear compressive stress and scoring failure are the main concerns. Many failures in differential planetary gears are due to the insufficient gear strength and resonance problems caused by major excitation forces such as gear mating failure in the transmission. In the present study, where the excitation frequencies are the gear tooth passing frequencies of the mating gears, a Campbell diagram is used to calculate differential planetary gear critical speeds. Mode shapes and natural frequencies of the differential planetary gears are calculated by CATIA V5. These are used to predict gear resonance failures by comparing the working speed range with the critical speeds due to the gear transmission errors of the differential planetary gears.
The noise . vibration characteristics of Hypoid gears which were made from three seperate materials(SCM, TSCM, SNCM) under the identical process were investigated for the sake of durability improvement of differential gear compatible with low level noise gear set. For this study, we developed a rig experimental equipment which can perform close noise.vibration experiment of differential gear. Consequently, we could analyze the noise.vibration characteristics of final reduction gear by materials, and also we observed changes in both metallic structure and hardness according to the materials of pinion gear. In addition to this, the correlation between the vibration of the differential gear and the interior noise of the passenger vehicles was proved by analyzing the results of rig vibration experiment and field noise test.
Because many light rail transit systems are mainly operated in the downtown areas of a large cities and the congestion areas, there are many steep gradients and sharp radius sections in that lines. As that reasons above, light rail vehicles are equipped with differential gear units between traction motors and final reduction gear units. In this paper, the configurations and the interferences of 2K-H I type Planetary gear train, which is applicable for light rail vehicles and based on various differential gear units, are studied. The ranges of addendum modification coefficients which would not lead to interferences is analyzed, and optimal addendum modification coefficients among these ranges are presented, which generate the maximum efficiency of planetary gear drives and differential gear unit as pressure angles, speed ratios,
In this study, simulation structure analysis was performed for the differential gear system for passenger cars as a prerequisite for the design of the balancing module. The differential gear system was modeled by using CATIA and simulation structure analysis was performed using ANSYS software. The material of the modeled differential gear system uses the mechanical properties of S45C (Q&T). In the structural analysis of the differential gear, the areas where the maximum stress and the maximum strain occurred can be identified. The maximum stress and maximum strain occurred in the pitch circle of the bevel gear. In evaluating the safety factor, it was found that sufficient safety factor was secured. Based on the analysis results for the differential gear, it is expected that it will be a good reference if we design the balancing module device.
Automation facilities of greenhouses have been continuously developed. However, the conventional two-stage worm gear reducer reveals some problems, including low transmission efficiency. The worm gear reducer also have some difficulties in manufacturing and short life. Therefore, this study was performed to develop a planetary gear reducer, having a high Sear reduction ratio and high torque transmission efficiency. The planetary gear system consisted of a fixed ring gear and a 2-teeth differential ring gear turning slow, as the planetary pinion orbits fast around the fixed ring gear. The developed gear system can achieve a high speed reduction rate at one stage. The reducing system was employed to the greenhouse ventilation system. The reducer has the transmission efficiency of 70.5%, 2∼3 times longer life time, and twofold roll-up torque at an affordable price, comparing with conventional reducers. This reducer can be also applied to many industrial equipments, such as industrial crane, hoist, elevator and gondola etc.

In the design of epicyclic gearing, the analysis of interference and mechanical efficiency is an important index. As an applied way, epicyclic gearing can be used for planetary gear drive and differential gear unit. In case that one of its components is fixed with intend, it is called planetary gear drive. On the contrary, in case that no component is fixed, it is called differential gear unit. In this paper, various design constraints and interferences are defined for 2K-H I type epicyclic gearing which is a basic arrangement of diverse epicyclic gearings. And various interferences are analyzed, and mechanical efficiency is calculated in case that 2K-H I epicyclic gearing is used for a differential gear unit as the change of gear ratio, cutter pressure angle, addendum modification coefficient. As that results, trend of mechanical efficiency is investigated in the ranges of addendum modification coefficients which would not lead to interferences, and the optimal range of addendum modification coefficient which can generate the maximum mechanical efficiency are presented. In order to prove results of theoretical efficiency analysis, experimental studies are performed.
This study investigates the stress at gear by modelling differential gear and using FEM. When gear is driven under power, high equivalent stress of 1596.2MPa is occurred at the stationary shaft. Maximum equivalent stress of 1596.2MPa is also occurred at the bottom and root of tooth and its fatigue life becomes 12.4 as the shortest cycle. As much as it becomes away from the center of gear, the maximum deformation becomes occurred. As exact power is delivered with the precise design of gear, the loss of power energy can be decreased.
