This study analyzed and standardized the harmful substances of organic compounds(dioxins) in disposable diapers for infant's clothing. Commercial samples obtained from Korea, Japan, America and German were determined by HRGC/HRMS. Experimental Methods were consisted of comparision of extracting solvent, analysis of PCDD/Fs, and analysis of PCDD/Fs of extraction in disposable diaper. The results were as follows. No high TEQ values in TCDD(1), PCDD(0.5) and HxCDD(0.1) were found for commercial disposable diapers from country Korea, Japan, U.S.A and German. In extraction for 6hrs experiments, HpCDD and OCDD were detected in disposable diapers of U1, U2 and G2, respectively. In extraction fur 24hrs experiments, HpCDD, OCDD and OCDF were detected in disposable diapers of J3, U1, U2 and U3. So we need to set standards of measurement for harmful materials contained in textile goods. This will make a safe and comfortable clothing environment for all users, regardless of age.

Among the components of disposable diaper, the top sheet contacting with baby skin directly is usually made of nonwoven fabrics. Therefore, the tactile properties of the nonwoven fabrics are important for the skin health of infants. In this study, we have explored the surface properties of hygiene nonwoven fabrics (100% cotton spunlace, 100% tencel spunlace, 100% polypropylene (PP) thermalbonding and 100% PP Thru-air bonded carded web (TABCW)), such as friction coefficient and geometrical roughness. used by KES-F system and a laser displacement sensor. Also, we evaluated the subjective responses about the hygiene nonwoven fabrics used by a questionnaire and compared with the objective values, measured by KES-F system and a laser displacement sensor respectively. From the result, we have found that surface sensation (such as soft, smooth, and rough) and bulkiness sensation (such as spongy and fluffy) of nonwovens were represented excellently by L-SMD values which are measured by a laser displacement sensor.

The analytical method of toxic heavy metals in disposable diapers was developed. Disposable diapers obtained from Korea, Japan, America and German were determinated and quantified. Sample treatment (Total Digestion) was wet chemical acid digestion for extraction of nine hazardous inorganic elements (Sb, As, Pb, Cd, Cr, Co, Cu, Ni, Hg) in disposable diapers. Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (ICP-MS) and Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometer (ICP-AES) have been used for analyzing nine hazardous inorganic elements. The results were as follows : The concentration of extractable Sb which was treated for 3 hours with artificial urine and disposable diapers was higher than those of 6 hours and 24 hours. The concentration of extractable Cr was same as Sb. On the other hands, the behavior of Cu and Ni were different from Sb and Cr. Concentrations of extractable Cu and Ni increased as increasing the reaction time between artificial urine and disposable diapers.

Silver has antibacterial property on bacteria of about 650 kinds and has been well known as non-toxic and non-tolerance in natural state. Recently, silver has been applied disinfection and antibacterial property to everyday life as health foods, filter, and exclusion of pollution. Nano-sized silver particle have very small size (〈10nm) and wide surface area per unit volume. Urinary Incontinence is any leakage of urine against their will. It is not a life threatening illness but it causes negative effects both socially and psychologically. Based on many previous studies, 20-40% of adult female and 30% of men in their sixties have experienced symptoms of urinary incontinence. As the number of active aged people experiencing the symptoms increases, demand for specialized product is growing. The purpose of the study is to research the types and features of male disposable products for urinary incontinence on the market and to provide the basic data for improvement and development of better product. Products from 6 brands (Tena, Depend, Carnation, Keepers, Molimed, Abrimen) with high brand awareness both in online and offline were selected and analyzed. And product evaluation was carried out by male in their sixties with light symptom of urinary incontinence. The results are as follows. There are three types of male products for urinary incontinence: panties, diaper and pad. Among the 6 brands, the subject of analysis, only Depend from Yuhan Kimberly produces male panties while others make ones for unisex. There is no diaper product only for male, and Tena, Molimed, Abrimen have pad type products for male. Male panties from Depend emphasizes their design considering male's physical characteristics. Male pad is differentiated with female one by having different designs like triangular or pocket type which is more comforting to men. As a result of product evaluation, wearable panties similar to normal underwear were highly appreciated and satisfactory. Among various shapes of pads, 25cm long pad with wide width of front and narrow back was valued to be comfortable.

In this paper, technologies applied to design urination detection device on diaper that issues an alarm signal to guardian within 10~20m are introduced. It features power saving that uses both low power bluetooth v4.0 chip and low-power program scheme that makes sensor and mirco-controller to be sleep mode while data is not receiving from sensor. Urination detection algorithm that utilizes the difference between previous sensing data and current values is used to improve the degree of the detection precision level. The device designed with the suggested technologies shows the performance that is 100ml of the minimum urine amount for detection, more than 90% of urination detection degree, and 100% of wireless communication success rate.

This article is a continuing report about a development of disposable diapers for the elderly in need. In previous report, the first prototypes of disposable diapers in two different categories have been developed. One was a panty type and the other was a pad type. These prototypes were results of property test and wear test of existing disposable diapers in each categories. Yet, in order to develop useable products, the second property and wear tests using the first prototype diapers were carried out. Considering the resets of the second tests, enhancements to the first prototypes were made to refine the second prototypes. The panty type diaper were altered to be longer to prevent evacuation from leaking and fit better. The pad type diapers were altered to reduce thickness for comfort and wearing appearance when get dressed. Ultimately a lot more disposable diapers will be required in future. Resulting suggestions are as follows. Anthropometric data around hip area of elderly in both sexes have to be collected to give meaningful information to diaper manufacturers, so that they can manufacture for different sizes and different sexes. Also we suggests that diapers for specific disease such as diabetics have to be designed accordingly.

This study shows the floor plan types and the space composition of multi-used toilets in public-toilets of Choongchung-Do. The areas of multi-used toilets are various from 4.8m2 to 10.5m2 And there Is usually one multi-used toilet in one public-toilet, but some public-toilets have two multi-used toilets. Multi-used toilets have several equipments such as toilet stool, urinal, washstand, change diaper, chair for baby-care, toilet stool for child, urinal for child, so on. All the multi-used toilets have toilet stool and washstand, but urinal and change diaper were used restrictively, and chair for baby-care, toilet stool for child, urinal for child were used in few cases. There are six types how the multi-used toilets are located in public-toilets, five types of multi-used toilet forms, and five types how the equipments are installed in multi-used toilets. The dotted blocks are installed partially in line type, and partially in spot type. But some cases, there was no installation of dotted block. Auto-sliding door were usually applicated, and some other types of door system were used restrictively. This study offers not only the present conditions, but also the appropriate planning directions of the multi-used toilets.

Purpose: This study was aimed to describe older adults' experiences of living with urinary incontinence and using diapers for its management in long-term care facilities. Methods: Qualitative data were collected through in-depth interviews with 22 participants in long-term care facilities. Content analysis was used to analyze the data. Results: Three themes and six categories were emerged. Participants navigated through those three categories as stages, including the initial stage of confronting the unacceptable reality, transitional stage of physical and emotional suffering, and adaptive stage of accepting the diaper usage as a part of life and hoping improvement. Six categories were feeling terrible with unavoidable use of diapers, being frustrated by nursing staff shortage and unsatisfactory care for urinary incontinence, physical discomfort from of wearing diapers and remaining unchanged, emotional difficulties due to using diapers, accepting and adapting to diaper usage as a part of life, hope for gender-specific quality care for urinary incontinence. Conclusion: The findings suggest that using diapers should not be mandatory to manage older adults' urinary incontinence in long-term care facilities. It is also critical to establish policies to address issues of nursing shortage and financial support for qualitative care to manage urinary incontinence in long-term care settings.

Yuhan Kimberly, a joint-venture company of Korean Yuhan Company and American Kimberly-Clark, opened a premium diaper market in Korea by launching Pull-Ups which was pants-typed diapers in 1993. Pull-Ups was imported as finished goods from Kimberly-Clark. However, in spite of its huge market share in United States, it failed to land down in Korean market because of wrong positioning strategy which did not consider domestic customers' tastes. In 1996, Yuhan-Kimberly brought out a pants-typed diaper, Huggies-Toddler, to Korean market again. This paved the way for the combination of Kimberly-Clark's production power and Yuhan-Kimberly's marketing power and led to launch new product superior to Pull-Ups. However, this product was unsuccessful in the market because of wrong positioning which did not catch domestic customer's life styles such as cultural, environmental and habitual differences in toilet training, the cost increase coming from IMF crisis in Korea, weak trust within the company, weak trust within the company, and too much higher price than regular diapers. In 2005, Yuhan-Kimberly redeveloped new pants market business strategy. It was organically combined with winning product development plan, winning communication strategy and the market structure change through the pants market creation. Customer's habit, usage and attitude were studied with total 55 times market investigations. Also, all processes from planning to designing were executed in the customer's view by investigating product research, positioning research and advertisement research. Yuhan-Kimberly repositioned new product as a wearing diaper not as a toilet training diaper and launched Huggies Magic Panty as a premium product which had 25% higher price than previous Huggies. Huggies Magic Panty was recognized as a great hit product in domestic diaper market and the sales recorded 37.6 bill won in 2006, 57.2 bill won in 2007, and 90 bill won in 2008 since launching in 2005. The reason of Huggies Magic Panty's success was the repositioning strategy deduced from the precise check of customer's usage habit. It was the winning strategy of Huggies that were market investigation in order to survive in domestic baby goods market where a lot of companies struggled intensively, the exact positioning based on its market investigation and aggressive 360 degree communication strategy to give customers impressions efficiently.
