  • This study was performed to investigate the fatigue behaviour and fatigue damage process of RC structures under repeated load. Especially, the behavior of RC beams subjected to flexure-shear force has been focused. The test results show that the deflections of beam and the strains of longitudinal steels and stirrups under cyclic loads increase with constant rate, and these increases depend on diagonal crack openings and strain increases. The present study provides useful data for the analysis of damage accumulation of reinforced concrete beams under repeated loadings.

  • Recently , the use of steel fibers has been increased in flexural members and beams of concrete structures ; such as bridge decks, highway roads, runway of airport , buildings , ete.. An experimental investigation of the shear behavior of high-strength reinforced concrete beams using input steel fiber was conducted. However only a few experimental tests have been carried out under static loading . The static test was carried out to measure the ultimate load, the initial load of flexural and diagonal cracking , crack patters, fracture modes. The load versus strain and load versus deflection relation were obtained from the static test.

  • The use of recycled-aggregate concrete is increasing faster than the development of appropriate design recommendations. In addition, recycled-aggregate and higher compressive strengths are two of the most desired characteristics to improve the use of concrete as a construction material. The paper reports limited experimental data on the shear capacity of high-strength recycled aggregate concrete beams. Ten beams were tested to determine their diagonal cracking and ultimate shear capacities. The variable in the test program were concrete strength(300, 500 and 700kgf/$cm^{2}$), and shear span/depth ratio (a/d : 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0). Test results indicate that the ACI Building code prediction of Eq.(11-3) and (11-5) for high-strength recycled aggregate concretes are unconservative for all beams (with concrete strength 300, 500 and 700kgf/$cm^{2}$, a/d ratios 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0). But Zsutty Equation for high-strength recycled aggregate concretes is conservative for all beams. The results of the experimental investigation on the cracking patterns for beams show that the angle that the critical inclined crack makes with the horizontal axis decreases with increasing a/d.

  • In this study, the 'Comb-structure' model which has been developed from truss analogy is modified in order to be applied to the shear analysis of partially prestressed concrete members. The proposed 'Comb-structure' model is modified so that the position, the slope of concrete compressive chord and the slope of concrete diagonal strut may change according to the magnitude of loads and prestress. For the proposed mechanical model, non-linear beam and truss elements are used. By modifying the 'Compression-Field' theory, the equation to determine the slope angle of concrete diagonal strut can be induced. The anaysis results by the proposed 'Comb-structure' model are compared with the experimental results and validity of model is examined. It shows that the the result of 'Comb-structure' analysis lies between that of the modified M$\ddot{o}$rsch theory and classical M$\ddot{o}$rsch theory, and close to the measured value after cracking. The deflection of the beam and the stress of stirrup show good agreement, so it can be concluded that the proposed 'Comb-structure' analysis model explains the shear behavior of partially prestressed concrte beams after crack initiation.

  • Twelve beams made of lightweight high-strength concrete were tested to determine their diagonal cracking and ultimate shear capacities. A total of 12 beams without(4 beams) and with lightweight(8 beams) were tested in a stiff testing facility, and complete load-midspan deflection curves, including the maximum capacities portion, were obtained. The variables in the test program were concrete strength, which varied 35.4 MPa, 65.3 MPa; shear span-depth ratios a/d=1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 4.5; and tensile steel ratio between 0.57 and 2.3 percent. Also, we divided beam by diagonal tension crack and ultimate shearing strength to propose an equation. In addition, it analyzed comparison mutually applying existing proposal and guide. $V_{cr}$ was as result that AIK recommendations and Zsutty proposal decrease more than a/d=2.5, increased some in Mathey's proposal equation. $V_{cr,\exp}/V_{cr,cal}$ showed tendency of overestimation according to increase of tensile steel ratio and compressive strength of concrete. On the other hand, $V_{cr,\exp}/V_{cr,cal}$ is superior in conformability with an experiment result Zsutty's proposal among other equations. The proposal equation hew that expect $V_{cr}/V_u$, rationally about shearing strength. Therefore, shear strength an equation is considered to be utilized usefully evaluating capacity by change of the shear span depth ratio of lightweight concrete, tensile steel ratio, and compressive strength of the concrete in this research.

  • Twelve reinforced concrete continuous deep beams having web openings within interior shear spans were tested to failure. All beams tested had the same geometrical dimensions. The main variables investigated were the opening size and amount of inclined reinforcement around openings. An effective inclined reinforcement factor combining the influence of the opening size and amount of inclined reinforcement on the structural behavior of the beams tested is proposed. It was observed that the load distribution, diagonal crack width, and load capacity of beams tested were greatly dependent on the effective inclined reinforcement factor which ranged from 0 to 0.171 for the test specimens. The higher this factor, the smaller the diagonal crack width and its development rate. A higher load capacity also developed in beams having effective inclined reinforcement factor above 0.077 than in the corresponding solid deep beams. A numerical technique based on the upper bound analysis of the plasticity theory is proposed to evaluate the load capacity of continuous deep beams having openings within interior shear spans. Predictions obtained from the proposed formulas are in good agreement with test results.

  • In order to effectively resist seismic loads, coupling beams must be sufficiently stiff, strong and posses a stable load-deflection hysteretic response. This paper reports experimental data on the seismic performance of precast HPFRCC coupling beams with variable details. Precast HPFRCC coupling beam was tested to evaluate their failure modes. shear behavior, micro crack pattern and energy dissipation. Based on the experimental results, precast coupling beam with diagonal and rhombic details offer greater performance and ductility than coupling beam with normal detail.

  • The strut-and-tie method (STM) has been widely accepted and used as a rational approach for the design of disturbed regions ('D' regions) of reinforced concrete members such as in corbels and deep beams, where traditional flexure theory does not apply. This paper evaluates the applicability of the equilibrium based STM in strength predictions of deep beams (with rectangular and circular cross-section) and corbels using the available experiments in literature. STM is found to give fairly good results for corbel and deep beams. The failure modes of these deep members are also studied, and an optimum amount of distribution reinforcement is suggested to eliminate the premature diagonal splitting failure. A comparison with existing empirical and semi empirical methods also show that STM gives more reliable results. The nonlinear finite element analysis (NLFEA) of 50 deep beams and 20 corbels could capture the complete behaviour of deep members including crack pattern, failure load and failure load accurately.

  • Ten reinforced concrete rigid frames and infilled shear wall frames were tested under both vertical and cyclic loadings. Experiments were carried out to evaluate the structural performance of such test specimens, such as the hysteretic behavior, the maximum horizontal strength, crack propagation, and ductility etc. under load reversals. All the specimens were modeledin one-third scale size. Based on the test results reported in this study, the follwing conclusions can be made. For the rigid frame type and the fully rigid babel type shear wall specimens, the hysteresis diagrams indicate that the degradations of their strength were developed slowly beyond maximum carrying capacity. It was shown that when the hoop reinforcement ratio became higher, the energy dissipation capacity became larger and the failure mode became ductile. The specimens designed by the less hoop reinforcement for the fully rigid babel type shear wall, were mainly failed due to diagonal crack in comparison with the specimens designed by the larger hoop reinforcement ratio. Maximum horizontal resisting moment capacity of speciment designed by the fully rigid babel shear wall were increased by 5.47~7.95 times in comparison with the rigid frame type.

  • Reinforced concrete beams of existing structure often encounter insufficient shear problems for various reasons. Application of steel plates is one of widely used methods for shear strengthening of reinforced concrete beams that are insufficient of shear capacity. This study presents test results on strengthening shear deficient RC beams by external bonding of vertical and diagonal slit type steel plates with anchor bolt. Test parameters are width, interval, angle and length of slits with anchor bolt. The purpose was to evaluate the failure modes and shear capacities for RC beams strengthened by various slit type steel plates with anchor bolt. The results showed that the slit type steel plate specimens strengthened by adhesive bonding and bolting failed in shear fracture modes at maximum load. Flexural crack first occurred on the tension face of beam and then inclined cracks occurred on the shear span. Finally, slit type steel plates strengthened by adhesive bonding and fastening bolts managed to delay abrupt debonding and didn't detach fully from main body of RC beam.
