  • Link attributes, such as speed, occupancy, and flow, are essential factors for transportation planning and operation. It is, therefore, one of the most important decision-making problems in intelligent transport system (ITS) to determine the optimal location of a sensor for collecting the information on link attributes. This paper aims to develop a model to determine the optimal location of a sensor to minimize the variability of traffic information on whole networks. To achieve this, a network sensor location model (NSLM) is developed to reflect discrete characteristics of data collection. The variability indices of traffic information are calculated based on the summation of diagonal elements of the variance-covariance matrix. To assess the applicability of the developed model, speed data collected from the dedicated short range communication (DSRC) systems were used in Daegu metropolitan area. The developed model in this study contributes to the enhancement of investment efficiency and the improvement of information accuracy in intelligent transport system (ITS).

  • The clustering of gene expression data is used to analyze the results of microarray studies. This clustering is one of the frequently used methods in understanding degrees of biological change and gene expression. In biological research, MCL algorithm is an algorithm that clusters nodes within a graph, and is quick and efficient. We have modified the existing MCL algorithm and applied it to microarray data. In applying the MCL algorithm we put forth a simulation that adjusts two factors, namely inflation and diagonal tent and converted them by making use of Markov matrix. Furthermore, in order to distinguish class more clearly in the modified MCL algorithm we took the average of each row and used it as a threshold. Therefore, the improved algorithm can increase accuracy better than the existing ones. In other words, in the actual experiment, it showed an average of 70% accuracy when compared with an existing class. We also compared the MCL algorithm with the self-organizing map(SOM) clustering, K-means clustering and hierarchical clustering (HC) algorithms. And the result showed that it showed better results than ones derived from hierarchical clustering and K-means method.

  • The CCA (canonical correlation analysis) is a well known analysis tool that measures the linear relationship between two variable sets and it can be used for blind source separation (BSS). In previous works, a blind source separation scheme based on the CCA and auto regression was proposed. Unfortunately, the proposed scheme requires high signal-to-noise ratio for successful source separation. In this paper, we propose an improved BSS scheme based on the CCA and auto regression by eliminating the main diagonal elements of auto covariance matrix. Compared to the previously proposed BSS scheme, the proposed BSS scheme not only offers better source separation performance but also requires low computational complexity.

  • In this paper, we propose a normalization algorithm that can be applied to adaptive filters for multi-channel active noise control. The FxLMS (Filtered-x Least Mean Square) algorithm for the single-channel active noise control can be normalized in the same way as the NLMS (Normalized Least Mean Square) algorithm, whereas in case of the multi-channel active noise control, the single-channel normalization for the FxLMS algorithm cannot be extended to the normalization for the multi-channel FxLMS algorithm straightforwardly. First, we adopt a generalized normalization algorithm for the multi-channel FxLMS algorithm based on the principle of minimal disturbance and then, proposed a normalized algorithm considering only diagonal elements to avoid computation for matrix inversion. We carried out performance comparisons of the proposed algorithm with other algorithms without normalization. It is shown that the proposed algorithm presents better convergence characteristics under non-stationary environments.

  • Low-tension cables have been increasingly used in recent years due to deep-sea developments and the advent of synthetic cables. In the case of low-tension cables, large displacements may happen due to relatively small restoring forces of tension and thus the effects of fluid and geometric non-linearities and bending stiffness. A Fortran program is developed by employing a finite difference method. In the algorithm, an implicit time integration and Newton-Raphson iteration are adopted. For the calculation of huge size of matrices, block tri-diagonal matrix method is applied, which is much faster than the well-known Gauss-Jordan method in two point boundary value problems. Some case studies are carried out and the results of numerical simulations are compared with a in-house program of WHOI Cable with good agreements.

  • A very important part in vibration analysis is to calculate the frequency response function (FRF). In general, a large sized or/and complicated structure has many thousands to millions of degrees. Therefore, the FRF cannot be calculated by the traditional analysis method using an inverse matrix. This paper presents a new FRF calculation method of a superstructure by synthesizing sub-structure modes, of which the DOF can be deduced by partitioning into some sub-structures. To confirm its analysis results, the method was applied to an assembled plate ($B300{\times}L900{\times}t5mm$) with three diagonal sub-plates($B300{\times}L300{\times}t5mm$) in series and compared with the measured data. The test results have were comparable those of the calculated ones with an error less than 5%.

  • Electrical impedance tomography is an imaging technique to reconstruct the internal conductivity distribution based on applied currents and measured voltages in a domain of interest. In this paper, a modified Gauss-Newton method is proposed for conductivity image reconstruction. In the proposed method, the dimension of the inverse term is reduced by replacing the number of elements with the number of measurement data in the conductivity updating equation of the conventional Gauss-Newton method. Therefore, the computation time is greatly reduced as compared to the conventional Gauss-Newton method. Moreover, the regularization parameter is selected by computing the minimum-maximum from the diagonal components of the Jacobian matrix at every iteration. The numerical experiments with several scenarios were carried out to evaluate the reconstruction performance of the proposed method.

If any particular part in the combined cells are differentiated cells have a problem that function to other cells caused an error and perform the same function are subjected to a step of apoptosis by the surrounding cells. Designed as a function block in the function and the internal structure having a cell structure of this digital circuit proposes an algorithm. In case of error of module 4 of block 1 considered in this study, sum of all module numbers for horizontal direction, total module number sum for vertical direction, and sum of all module numbers for diagonal direction, We were able to find the location.

  • In the next generation mobile communication systems, hybrid massive multiple-input multiple output (MIMO) can be used to highly improve an achievable rate without increasing the number of RF chains. Recently, successive-interference-cancellation (SIC) based hybrid precoder design scheme was proposed to reduce the complexity. However, since this scheme uses simple diagonal matrix for baseband precoding, it cannot solve an interference problem between the transmitted streams. Also, there is a limitation for improving the data rate because of the use of one phase shifter for analog precoding. To solve these problems, in this paper we propose a digital precoding based on the SVD of the effective channel and an analog precoding using two phase shifters. Through simulation, we show that the proposed scheme has better achievable rate and SINR performances than the conventional one.

  • This paper describes experimental results on the seismic performance of SHCC (strain-hardening cement composite) infill wall for improving damage tolerance capacity of non-ductile frame. To investigate the effect of tensile strain capacity and cracking behavior of SHCC materials on the shear behavior of SHCC infill wall, three infill walls were fabricated and tested under cyclic loading. The test parameter in this study is a type of cement composites; concrete and SHCCs. The two types of SHCC materials were prepared for infill walls. In order to induce crack damages into the mid-span of the infill wall, each infill wall had two 100-mm-deep-notches on both sides. Test results indicated that SHCC infill walls showed superior crack control capacities and much larger drift ratios at the peak loads than RC (reinforced concrete) infill wall, as expected. In particular, due to the bridging actions of the reinforcing fibers, SHCC matrix used in this study would delay the stiffness degradation of infill wall after the first inclined cracking. Moreover, from the damage classes based on the cracks' maximum width in the infill walls, it was observed that PIW-SHD specimen possessed nearly threefold seismic capacities compared to PIW-SLD specimen. Also, from the results on the strain of diagonal reinforcements, it can be concluded that the SHCC matrix would resist a part of tensile stresses transferred along steel rebar in the infill wall.
