  • IGBT devices have the best features of both power MOSFETs and power bipolar transistors, i.e., efficient voltage gate drive requirements and high current density capability. When designing circuit and systems that utilize IGSTs or other power semiconductor devices, circuit simulations are needed to examine how the devices affect the behavior of the circuit. The IGBT model in this paper is verified by comparing the results of the model with experimented results for various circuit operating conditions. The model performs well and describes experimented results accurately for the range of static and dynamic condition in which the device is intended to be operated.

  • In this paper, the authors propose a DC-DC boost converter of high efficiency by partial resonant switching mode, the switching devices in a proposed circuit are operated with soft switching and the control technique of those is simplified for switch to drive in constant duty cycle. The circuit has a merit which is taken to increase of efficiency, as it makes to a regeneration at input source of accumulated energy in snubber condenser without loss of snubber inconventional circuit. The proposed converter is deemed the most suitable for high power applications where the power switching devices are used.

  • An micro model for the power insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor(IGBT) is developed. The model consistently described the IGBT steady-state current-voltage characteristics and switching transient current and voltage waveform for all loading conditions. The model is based on the equivalent circuit of a MOSFET with supplies the base current to a low-gain, high-level injection, bipolar transistor with its base virtual contact at the collector and of the base. Model results are compared with measured turn-on and turn-off waveform for different drive, load, and feedback circuits.

  • Compound continuously variable transmission(CVT) mechanisms are proposed, which can offer a backward mode, a geared neutral, an underdrive mode and an overdrive mode. They are composed of a 2K-H I type differential gear unit, a V-belt type continuously variable unit(CVU), a few friction clutches and gears, and not required of a starting device as a torque converter. Compound CVT mechanisms developed here present two distinct operating modes which are a power circulation mode and a power split mode. The transition of two modes takes place at the particular CVU speed ratio. For these CVT mechanisms, performance analysis related to speed ratio, power ratio and efficiency are executed and proven by experimental studies.

  • Power electronics technology based on power Semiconductor switching devices (PSSD) is used extensively as a mean to control electrical energy in domestic and industry applications. This paper presents new driving circuits considering characteristics of PSSDs, which can drive SIT and SI-Thy having potentiality of applications in future industry. And it is shown that the preposed design method can be applied to main power convertion circuits.

  • This paper presents a new and simple method for sensorless operation of matrix converter drives using a constant air-gap flux and the imaginary power flowing to the motor. To improve low-speed sensorless performance, the non-linearities of a matrix converter drive such as commutation delays, turn-on and turn-off times of switching devices, and on-state switching device voltage drop are modelled using PQR transformation and compensated using a reference power control scheme. The proposed compensation method is applied for high performance induction motor drives using a 3 kW matrix converter system. Experimental results are shown to illustrate the feasibility of the proposed strategy.

  • The power wheelchair is an important and convenient mobility device. The demand of power wheelchair is increasing for assistance in mobility. In this paper we proposed a robotic wheelchair for mobility aid to reduce the burden from the disabled. The main issue in an autonomous wheelchair is the automatic detection and avoidance of obstacles and going to the pre-designated place. The proposed algorithm detects the obstacles and avoids them to drive the wheelchair to the desired place safely with panning scan from sensors of distance measurement and fuzzy control. By this way, the disabled will not always have to worry about paying deep attention to the surroundings and his path.

  • The OTFT devices had inverted staggered structures of Au/pentacene/ppMMA/ITO on PET substrate. The overall device performances of the flexible devices such as the operating voltage, the field effect mobility, the on/off ratio and the off current are somewhat worse than those of devices fabricated on glass substrates. Pentacene/ppMMA OTFT benchmarks (mobility, sub-threshold slope, on/off ratio) were comparable to that of solution cast PMMA, but below average when compared to other polymer gate dielectrics. However, threshold and drive voltages were among the lowest reported for a polymer gate dielectric, and surpassed only by ultra-thin SAM gate dielectrics.

  • This paper presents a control strategy of 4 wheel drive (4WD) vehicles. Proposed control strategy has simple structure and can easily apply to various vehicles with low cost and time. It is consist of feedforward control for traction ability, fedback control for minimizing the wheel speed difference and yaw control for lateral stability. In addition, to integrate the traction and stability control, a blending function is applied. To evaluate the feasibility of the proposed control strategy, actual vehicle experiment is conducted after deciding the tuning parameter through the simulation. The simulation is accomplished by CarSim and Matlab/Simulink and the actual vehicle test is conducted using full size Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) equipped rear wheel based solenoid type 4WD device.

  • Electro-pneumatic servo valve is an electro-mechanical device which converts electric signals into a proper pneumatic flow rate or pressure. In order to improve the overall performance of pneumatic servo systems, electro-pneumatic servo valves are required, which have fast dynamic characteristics, no air leakage at a null point, and can be fabricated at a low-cost. The objective of this research is to design and to fabricate a new electro-pneumatic servo valve which satisfies the above-mentioned requirements. In order to design the mechanism of the servo valve optimally, the flow inside the valve depending upon the position of spool was analyzed variously, and on the basis of such analysis results, the valve mechanism, which was formed by combination of the spool and the sleeve, was designed and manufactured. Further, the performance of pneumatic servo valve has been verified through an overall performance test on the developed product.
