Spark Plasma Sintering Method to Replace Carburizing Process (침탄 공정 대체를 위한 방전 플라즈마 소결 방법)

  • An alternative fabrication method for carburizing steel using spark plasma sintering (SPS) is investigated. The sintered carburized sample, which exhibits surface modification effects such as carburizing, sintered Fe, and sintered Fe-0.8 wt.%C alloys, is fabricated using SPS. X-ray diffraction and micro Vickers tests are employed to confirm the phase and properties. Finite element analysis is performed to evaluate the change in hardness and analyze the carbon content and residual stress of the carburized sample. The change in the hardness of the carburized sample has the same tendency to predict hardness. The difference in hardness between the carburized sample and the predicted value is also discussed. The carburized sample exhibits a compressive residual stress at the surface. These results indicate that the carburized sample experiences a surface modification effect without carburization. Field emission scanning electron microscopy is employed to verify the change in phase. A novel fabrication method for altering the carburization is successfully proposed. We expect this fabrication method to solve the problems associated with carburization.

  • Whenever we see the development of technology of the past, the respective ages always Produced the development of new materials. The appearance of the new materials have been making technologies progress. In this way, we may say new materials and new technology are insparably related to each other. The technology of today has emerged between a valley of new technology of today and it is regarded as contributing to various technologies expected to be executed in the 21 century. Presently, so railed new materials mean fine cermic, high performance organic polymer, new metal materials, compound materials etc. This paper presents several new materials which are chiefly concerned with the electrical and telecommunications engineerings field and its development in Korea.

A Study on Dress Design from the Development of Materials Focused on Tapestry (타피스트리 중심의 소재개발을 통한 의상디자인개발에 관한 연구)

  • This study focused on the development of creative materials by applying tapestry to produce original and high-grade dresses with consideration the modems' tendency to place high value on personal taste and style. The development remained sensitive to current trends and attempted to expand into high value-added dresses. Materials in modem fashion design, as a basis of the fashion industry, can lead to a current of new fashion and produce novel and creative ideas by stimulating the designers' creativity. Designers can diversely express a form according to their intention, since tapestry allows the expression of various feelings of texture and forms according to the combination mode of technique, structure and materials on a basic plane. Moreover, tapestry encrourages the development of varied designs because it can effectively display the texture and color of a textile surface through the careful selection of materials even under the same technique. Tapestry can apply forms similar to a textile's basic structure to fashion design and can create high added value with the merit of being 'handmade'.

Mechanical Properties and Consolidation of Ultra-Fine WC-10Co and WC-10Fe Hard Materials by Rapid Sintering Process (급속 소결 공정에 의한 초미립 WC-10Co와 WC-10Fe 초경재료 제조와 기계적 성질)

  • The comparison of sintering behavior and mechanical properties of ultra-fine WC-10wt.%Co and WC-10wt.%Fe hard materials produced by high-frequency induction heated sintering (HFIHS) was accomplished using ultra fine powder of WC and binders(Co, Fe). The advantage of this process allows very quick densification to near theoretical density and prohibition of grain growth in nano-structured materials. Highly dense WC-10Co and WC-10Fe with a relative density of up to 99% could be obtained with simultaneous application of 60 MPa pressure and induced current within 1 minute without significant change in grain size. The hardness and fracture toughness of the dense WC-10Co and WC-10Fe composites produced by HFIHS were investigated.

Effect of Al and Cr on Oxidation of Fe-Al and Fe-Cr Alloys (Fe-Al과 Fe-Cr계 합금의 내 산화성에 미치는 Al과 Cr의 영향)

  • The effects of Cr and Al contents in Fe-Al and Fe-Cr alloys on oxidation resistance, hardness, and the thermal expansion coefficient were investigated. Fe-Al and Fe-Cr alloys above 10wt.%Al and 20wt.%Cr contents have a high oxidation resistance. The hardness of the Fe-Al and Fe-Cr alloys increased with an increase in Al and Cr contents due to solid solution or formation of an intermetallic compound. The coefficients of thermal expansion of the Fe-Al alloys were higher than those of the Fe-Cr alloys because the coefficient of thermal expansion of Al was higher than that of Fe and Cr.

  • The effects of heat treatments and alloying elements on the microstructure and mechanical charaterisitics of specially austempered ADIs containing alloying elements such as Cu, Mo and Ni were investigated. To compare with the effect of conventional and normal(CN) austempering treatment, two kinds of special austempering treatments which are those with pre-quenching and pre-heating were conducted. The hardness and uniaxial fatigue tests were carried out to evaluate the mechanical charateristics. The hardness of ADI treated by CN heat cycles was higher than those of other ADIs. Cu added ADI (Cu-ADI) tempered at 400 after austenitizing exhibited the highest fatigue life cycles. While austempering after prequenching makes the austenite with high carbon stable, which resulted in transformation to highly strengthened bainites from the carbon enriched austenite phases during tempering. The high carbon enriched banites is considered to improve the fatigue strength.

  • In this paper, we mainly deal with metallic electrode materials and patterning processing of plasma display panels. We focus on the recent development status, where low cost and high performance electrode materials such as Ag-based single-layered bus, low cost-in-use and anti-migration address electrodes are briefly introduced. The technological trends and further works on novel electrode materials and processing are also discussed.
