This study was carried out to investigate the effects of slope exposure and altitude on the dry matter yield and on the grass quality in mountain pasture for 2-year period from 1986 to 1987. 1. Dry matter yield and crude protein content of grasses by slope exposure in mountain pasture were higher on the northern slope than that on the southern slope and, on both sides of slope, were increased as the altitude was high. 2. Neutral detergent fiber(NDF) and acid detergent fiber(ADF) contents, and in vitro dry matter digestibility were not different between different slope exposures and between different altitudes.

This experiment was carried out to investigate the effects of application levels of food waste compost andmineral nitrogen in 3 cuttings per annurn on the nutritive value and nutrient yields of orchardgrass (Dactylisglomerata L.). Annual food waste compost (FWC) and mineral nitrogen were applied at levels of 0, 10, 20,40 and 60 ton ha-', and 0, 90, 180 and 270 kg ha-', respectively. The contents of crude protein (CP, %) oforchardgrass were significantly higher at the application levels of 40 ton ha-' yr-' by FWC than those atapplication levels of 0 ton ha-' yr-' (p<0.05), the contents of neutral detergent fiber (NDF, %), acid detergentfiber (ADF, %) and hemicellulose were also higher in FWC applied plots, except for the FWC levels of 10and 60 ton ha-' yr-'. The contents of total digestible nutrient (TDN, %) and relative feed value (RFV) oforchardgrass were significantly higher at FWC levels of 10 and 60 ton ha-' yr-' than at levels of 0 ton ha"yr-'. Annual yields of CP and TDN were increased with increase the FWC levels. The highest contents ofCP of orchardgrass were obtained at 1st cut, NDF and ADF at 2nd cut. As the mineral nitrogen fertilizationwas increased, the contents of CP, NDF, ADF and hemicellulose of orchardgrass were significantly increased, but TDN and RFV were decreased. .Annual yields of CP and TDN of orchardgrass were significantlyincreased with increase the mineral nitrogen fertilization.(Key words : Food waste compost, Mineral nitrogen, Crude protein, Neutral detergent fiber, Acid detergentfiber)rgent fiber, Acid detergent fiber)
This investigation was undertaken from February 1976 to September 1976. The detergents in municipal sewages from the Chung Kae Stream, Ahn Yang Stream, and Bong Won Stream were determined at 1.5ppm, 0.93ppm, and 3.36ppm in average respectively. The concentrations of detergents determined in the Han river were 0.013ppm of Kwang Na Ru, 0.11ppm of Duk Do, 0.370ppm of Bo Kwang Dong, and 0.285ppm of Ka Yang Dong basin respectively. And the potable waters of Sung Book Ku and Sung Dong Ku from Ku Eu water pumping station located up-stream of the Han river were less polluted at 0.045ppm and 0.037ppm in average. Young Deung Po Ku and Su Dae Moon Ku had been relatively polluted at 0.181ppm and 0.133ppm. The coagulant, alum [$Al_{2}(SO_{4})_{3}$] could eliminated the small amount of detergent by coagulation. The eliminated rates were about 13% by 5ppm and 22.7% by 20ppm of aluminum sulfate in sewage contained 10ppm of turbidity. The sand and the charcoal adsorbed some detergent as the following Langmuir's equations: For the charcoal, m/x=0.029.$\times$1/Ce-11.43 For the charcoal, m/x=2.705log1/Ce-5.46 Where m: amount of snad and active carbon used(g) x: amount of detergent adsorbed from liquid(g) Ce:concentration in the liquid at equilibrium(miles) The adsorption effect of sand would be neglected. In the low concentration of detergent solution, one gram of active carbon adsorbed 0.263g of detergent. It was determined that one gram of chlorine reduced 5.5g pf DBS om keeping up 0.2ppm of residual chlorine by disinfection process with chlorine compound.

The purpose of this study was, to estimate the detergency of commercial detergent and to examine the interrelationship between detergency and detergent characteristics, detergent concentration, fiber characteristics, and Rolling-up phenomenon which is the major removal mechanism of oily soil. A mixture of oleic acid-olive oil was used as oily soil. The detergency was estimated by analysis of oleic acid on cotton ana polyester fabrics before and after washing by means of liquid scintillation counting. The Rolling-up of oily soil from PET film was observed and change of contact angle and removal time were measured. The results were as follows ; 1. In the case of soaps and powder synthetic detergents, the optimum concentrations we-re about $0.2\~0.3\%$. And detergencies of liquid synthetic detergents were considerably low, and the detergency was continually increased up with increasing concentration to $0.5\%$, which seemed to be caused by the lower pH than that of soap and powder synthetic deter-gent solutions. 2. As the effect of external or internal fiber structure; the detergency of cotton was lower than that of polyester. 3. In the observation of Rolling-up, the contact angle increased and the Rolling-up time became shorter with increasing detergent concentrations ($0.05\~0.5\%$). And it was confirmed that detergency was increased with Rolling-up effect. In addition, the study on the actual laundry condition was studied using the questionaire. From the results, about $76\%$ of households used the concentration of detergent roughly or excessively and housewives were highly concerned on the recommended dose, but grade of practice were very low.
Objective: The objectives were to investigate correlations between energy digestibility (digestible energy [DE]:gross energy [GE]) and various fiber types including crude fiber (CF), total dietary fiber (TDF), soluble dietary fiber (SDF), insoluble dietary fiber (IDF), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), and acid detergent fiber (ADF), and to develop prediction equations for estimating DE in feed ingredients and diets for growing pigs. Methods: A total of 289 data with DE values and chemical composition of feeds from 39 studies were used to develop prediction equations for DE. The equations were validated using values provided by the National Research Council. Results: The DE values in feed ingredients ranged from 2,011 to 4,590 kcal/kg dry matter (DM) and those in diets ranged from 2,801 to 4,203 kcal/kg DM. In feed ingredients, DE:GE was negatively correlated (p<0.001) with NDF (r = -0.84), IDF (r = -0.83), TDF (r = -0.82), ADF (r = -0.78), and CF (r = -0.72). A best-fitting model for DE (kcal/kg) in feed ingredients was: 1,356 + (0.704 × GE, kcal/kg) - (60.3 × ash, %) - (27.7 × NDF, %) with R2 = 0.80 and p<0.001. In diets, DE:GE was negatively correlated (p<0.01) with NDF (r = -0.72), IDF (r = -0.61), TDF (r = -0.52), CF (r = -0.45), and ADF (r = -0.34). A best-fitting model for DE (kcal/kg) in diets was: 1,551 + (0.606 × GE, kcal/kg) - (22.1 × ash, %) - (25.6 × NDF, %) with R2 = 0.62 and p<0.001. All variables are expressed as DM basis. The equation developed for DE in feed ingredients had greater accuracy than a published equation for DE. Conclusion: All fiber types are reasonably good independent variables for predicting DE of swine feeds. The best-fitting model for predicting DE of feeds employed neutral detergent fiber as an independent variable.
Objective: The present study was undertaken to determine an optimal balance between the amount of physically effective neutral detergent fiber (peNDF) to metabolizable glucose (MG) on rumen fermentation, blood metabolites and growth performance of 8 to 10-month-old heifers. Methods: A total of 15 healthy Holstein heifers weighing an average of 256 kg (8 month of age) were randomly assigned to three groups of five. Treatment diets consisted of the following three $peNDF_{8.0}/MG$ levels: 1.46 (Treatment A), 1.74 (Treatment B), and 2.08 (Treatment C). Results: The results showed that the ratio of $peNDF_{8.0}/MG$ affected rumen fermentation, blood metabolites and growth performance of heifers. The average daily gain of heifers tended to decrease as the ratio of $peNDF_{8.0}/MG$ increased (p = 0.07). The concentrations of blood urea nitrogen, triglyceride, and cholesterol increased significantly (p<0.05), while the high-density lipoprotein concentration decreased (p<0.05). After feeding 2 h and 4 h, insulin concentration in Treatment A was greater than Treatment C (p<0.05). Propionate concentration had decreasing trend (p = 0.07); acetate to propionate ratio and non-glucogenic to glucogenic volatile fatty acid (NGR) increased significantly (p<0.05). In addition, the digestibility of dry matter, crude protein, neutral detergent fiber, and acid detergent fiber decreased significantly (p<0.05). Conclusion: The present investigation indicated that dietary $peNDF_{8.0}/MG$ ratio can affect the growth and development, blood metabolites, rumen fermentation and apparent digestibility of heifers, and the optimal dietary $peNDF_{8.0}/MG$ ratio for 8 to 10-month-old heifers in the present study was 1.46.
Dry skin, called xerosis as medical term, is one of the most common skin problems. Many epidemiological studies show that the consumption of foods containing lycopene plays an important role in protecting the epithelial tissue. In this study, water extracts of tomato (WET) containing lycopene were fed and applied to evaluate the effects on dry skin induced by kitchen detergent in rats. These effects were identified by protein analysis and histological changes such as inflammatory erythematic skin as well as acanthosis. The visual scoring for skin observation showed the value such as 4 indicating fiery red with edema after detergent application to skin for 3 wk. However, WET feeding and application to skin showed the decreased values, from 0.7 to 1.0. In addition, it was noteworthy that the epidermis of dry skin show apparent acanthosis with abnormally accentuated keratinization and parakeratosis. However, acanthosis was reversed by feeding and application of WET to dry skin. In order to analyze the effects of WET on dry skin induced by detergent, protein analysis was carried out. The increased amount of protein in dry skin after WET feeding and application would be suggested as one of biochemical mechanisms for recovering the damaged skin. Thus, it would be recommended that water-extracted tomato is a new ingredient in skin regeneration from dry skin induced by detergent.
Surface activities including CMC, surface tension, foaming power etc. of the rhamnolipid (RL), a biosurfactant fermented by microorganism were investigated. Both the RL and liquid detergent contained RL showed a good surface activity. For the detergency test, the liquid detergent with RL showed a slightly better performance than that of using an fatty acid. However for the foaming profile, the liquid detergent with RL exhibited a lot of foam volume and the suppression of the rinsing and foaming during rinsing cycles with the RL was not seen. Therefore it can be concluded that RL can be used as a main surfactant or co-surfactant in liquid detergents without functions of foaming suppression or rinse-aid.
Protease is a widely used enzyme particularly in the detergent industry. In this research, we aimed to isolate alkaline protease-producing bacteria for characterization as a laundry detergent additive. The screening of alkaline protease production was investigated on basal medium agar plus 1% skim milk at pH 11, with incubation at 30℃. The highest alkaline protease-producing bacterium was 6BS15-4 strain, identified as Bacillus gibsonii by 16S rRNA gene sequencing. While the optimum pH was 12.0, the strain was stable at pH range 7.0-12.0 when incubated at 45℃ for 60 min. The alkaline protease produced by B. gibsonii 6BS15-4 using dairy effluent was characterized. The optimum temperature was 60℃ and the enzyme was stable at 55℃ when incubated at pH 11.0 for 60 min. Metal ions K+, Mg2+, Cu2+, Na+, and Zn2+ exhibited a slightly stimulatory effect on enzyme activity. The enzyme retained over 80% of its activity in the presence of Ca2+, Ba2+, and Mn2+. Thiol reagent and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid did not inhibit the enzyme activity, whereas phenylmethylsulfonyl fluoride significantly inhibited the protease activity. The alkaline protease from B. gibsonii 6BS15-4 demonstrated efficiency in blood stain removal and could therefore be used as a detergent additive, with potential for various other industrial applications.
This study was carried out to investigate the effect of new foot-bath facility and detergent solution (sodium molylbdenate, citrate, potassium nitrate, tataric acid, sodium hypo-cholorite, and zinc sulfate) on claw health in lactating dairy cows. Minimal inhibition concentration (MIC) and minimal bactericidal concentration (MBC) of copper sulphate were 0.31% for E. coli and Bacillus isolated from cows claw. The MIC and MBC of new detergent for E. coli were 1.25% and 5%, respectively, however their respectively values for Bacillus were noticed 0.63% and 2.5%. Both 5E. coli and Bacillus populations in petri-dishes were significantly reduced (more than 95%) with the application of new detergent solution (5% or 16%). Locomotion score (LS 1-5; very good to severely bad) of lactating cows were significantly improved with in 30 days with the use of new detergent solution in foot bath. The LS2 (n=16), LS3 (n=16), and LS4 (n=7) were shown 100%, 43.8%, and 14.3% recovery rate within 30 days with the use of new detergent solution. However, LS5 (n=2) were not recovered to normal claw health and locomotion score within 30 days of new detergent application. Usage of new detergent solution for 60 days in a foot bath have shown 81.3%, 71.4% and 50.0% recovery rate in cows with LS3, LS4 and LS5, respectively. Abnormal claw incidence was reduced from 18.8% to 1.5% in overall herd (n=80) with the use of new detergent solution (16%) in a foot bath for 90 days. In conclusion, usage of 16% of our detergent solution for 60 days in a foot bath can significantly improve the cow claw health and thus mitigate the negative effects of abnormal claw on productivity of cows and dairy farm income.
