In order to measure corrosion level of reinforcement rebar in RC structures, non-destructive test methods which are concrete surface current density method and infrared thermographic technique were employed to measure corrosion levels. Experimental test parameters were various levels of corrosion states(0, 1, 3, 5, 7% of weight loss) and concrete cover depth(30 mm, 40 mm) and two different reinforcing rebar arrangements. The larger amount of concrete surface current density, the higher corrosion level in reinforcement rebar. The laboratory conditions which are ambient temperature and humidity have negligible effect on the infrared thermographical data. After analysis of current density and temperature distribution from concrete surface, corrosion level of reinforcement rebar embedded in concrete can be measured qualitatively based on the amount of electric current and heat flux.

This study proposed a new non-destructive evaluation method for concrete bridge deck deterioration using ground penetrating radar (GPR). To calculate dielectric constant of the concrete bridge deck, an extended common mid-point (XCMP) method was developed for a two-layered structure using an air-coupled GPR antenna setup. The deterioration conditions of the concrete bridge deck such as deterioration depth was evaluated based on the dielectric constant and surface-to-average dielectric constant ratio of the concrete bridge deck. A GPR field test was conducted on an old concrete bridge with asphalt concrete surfacing to validate the new evaluation method. The test results showed that the newly proposed method estimated pavement thickness and deterioration depth of the concrete deck in a reasonable level.
An UET (ultrasound excited thermography) has been used for several years for a remote non-destructive testing in the automotive and aircraft industry. It provides a thermo sonic image for a defect detection. A thermograhy is based On a propagation and a reflection of a thermal wave, which is launched from the surface into the inspected sample by an absorption of a modulated radiation. For an energy deposition to a sample, the UET uses an ultrasound excited vibration energy as an internal heat source. In this paper the applicability of the UET for a realtime defect detection is described. Measurements were performed on two kinds of pipes made from a copper and a CFRP material. In the interior of the CFRP pipe (70mm diameter), a groove (width - 6mm, depth - 2.7mm, and length - 70mm) was engraved by a milling. In the case of the copper pipe, a defect was made with a groove (width - 2mm, depth - 1mm, and length - 110 mm) by the same method. An ultrasonic vibration energy of a pulsed type is injected into the exterior side of the pipe. A hot spot, which is a small area around the defect was considerably heated up when compared to the other intact areas, was observed. A test On a damaged copper pipe produced a thermo sonic image, which was an excellent image contrast when compared to a CFRP pipe. Test on a CFRP pipe with a subsurface defect revealed a thermo sonic image at the groove position which was a relatively weak contrast.
The evaluation of soundness of pile is very important for the safety of super structure. In this paper, the HWAW(Harmonic Wavelet Analysis of Wave) method which is developed to determine phase and group velocities of waves is applied to evaluate integrity of pile non-destructivly. The proposed method can evaluate a soundness of pile and pile end condition which is very important factor for pile behaviour. To verity the applicability of HWAW method in non-destructive test for pile, the numerical simulation test using ABAQUS was performed. And the model pile was made and the proposed non-destructive pile tests were applied to evaluate soundness and end boundary condition of model pile in the air and soil box. Through a numerical simulation and model tests, it is shown that the HWAW method has good potential of applying to the evaluation of pile integrity.

Full scale structural test of 765kv electric transmission tower was performed to measure the stresses and displacement of towers under the design loadings, and the results were compared with analytical results based on three dimensional frame analysis. Also, the actual ultimate strength of the tower was measured through destructive test. Especially, to predict the behavior and failure of the connection of tubular member, finite element analysis was performed and compression test for the segments of tubular member were carried out. Valuable information for the overall and local behavior of the tower was obtained and reliability of current analytical method was confirmed.
The traditional and still most widely used, test methods for concrete structures are destructive method, such as coring, drilling or otherwise removing part of the structure to permit visual inspection of the interior. While these methods are highly reliable, they are also time consuming and expensive, and the defects they leave behind often become focal point for deterioration. In this study, tomography by theoretical inversion method in case of elastic wave using impact-echo method among concrete non-destruction test method was made. Taken model experiments are theoretical inversion method and time domain and frequency domain test on pier test model at laboratory level. Also experiment concerning frequency domain on 3 kinds of tunnel model with I-dimension form was carried out.
Several non-destructive test methods have been developed to estimate compressive strength of concrete in other countries. However, their applications are limited in domestic concrete due to their inaccuracies. The purpose of this study is to propose an aging coefficient of compressive strength of structural concrete in rebound number method and ultrasonic pulse velocity method for domestic concrete. The test variables include type of aggregate, curing condition, and compressive strength. Two approaches are used to estimate aging coefficient. One is evaluated by uniform linear regression equation for all ages and shows uniform strength reduction coefficient regardless of material properties and the other is evaluated by individual regression equation for each ages and shows nonuniform strength reduction and rebound increasing coefficients which decrease with increasing of rebound number and compressive strength. The latter result which can include the effect of rebound number and compressive strength is more resonable than the former.

The damage from the underground termite cannot be discovered with peculiar appearance of building but hollow phenomenon will occur. But there is no case in Korea as a non-destructive measurement of termite activation. Therefore, this research constructs non-destructive diagnostic techniques for wooden cultural properties using microwave detector (Termatrac, Australia). Result of maximun distance were measured 16cm (Pine tree, sensitivity 5, 6), 17cm (Zelkova and Douglas fir, sensitivity 5, 6). These results are expected that can be applied in the field. Result of field test using microwave detector, 33.8% of the wooden cultural properties were damaged by termites, and until now 7.8% (18 buildings) are being damaged in nationwide (total 231 buildings). Based on the above results, microwave detector will be able to be utilized effectively for detecting termite, preventing intrusion in wooden structure, and making full use of monitoring system periodically. In addition, it could be of great worth in preventing insect and microorganism in wooden structure.

In this paper, a linear-array transducer capable of overcoming the faults of a single element and phased array transducers with convex shape for non-destructive ultrasonic testing was designed and fabricated. A 5.5 MHz linear-array transducer was designed using the PiezoCAD program based on the KLM analysis and the PZFlex program based on the FEM analysis. A 2-2 composite structure was employed to achieve broad-band characteristics. A 128 element linear-array transducer was fabricated and its performance was compared with the simulation results. The center frequency of the fabricated transducer was 5.5 MHz and the -6 dB frequency bandwidth was 70 %. Thus, we expect that the designed transducer can provide an effective inner image of the test material during non-destructive ultrasonic testing.
On this study, I constructed the reflective acoustic signal detecting system using 15MHz acoustic transducer. The most difficult problems discriminating the characteristics of the metal substance are the discriminating the corrosion state and seeking hidden defects by using none destructive testing. For solving these problems, at first, theoretic analysis has been proceeded on the acoustic V(z) characteristics which is very important on discriminating the material characteristics. For application the V(z) theory to discriminating corrosion state, the 100 and 500 won metal coins which are issued on the different years are used as the test samples. The experimental results showed the distinct differences among the coin's acoustic signals accorded to its issued years. I catched the common regulation by analysing the acquisited acoustic signals and convinced this technique to be very useful on corrosion discrimination of the metal substances by none destructive testing and also can be used to inspect on the aeronautical materials for safety navigation.
