  • This paper presents a sensor fusion method to recognize a cylindrical object a CCD camera, a laser slit beam and ultrasonic sensors on a pan/tilt device. For object recognition with a vision sensor, an active light source projects a stripe pattern of light on the object surface. The 2D image data are transformed into 3D data using the geometry between the camera and the laser slit beam. The ultrasonic sensor uses an ultrasonic transducer array mounted in horizontal direction on the pan/tilt device. The time of flight is estimated by finding the maximum correlation between the received ultrasonic pulse and a set of stored templates - also called a matched filter. The distance of flight is calculated by simply multiplying the time of flight by the speed of sound and the maximum amplitude of the filtered signal is used to determine the face angle to the object. To determine the position and the radius of cylindrical objects, we use a statistical sensor fusion. Experimental results show that the fused data increase the reliability for the object recognition.

  • A new formal standardization methodology of the structural design document information is proposed in this paper. The standardization process is divided into three steps: pre-process of the collected sample document (CSD), construction of the document structure, and definition of the occurrence of each element in the document. During the pre-process, the detail document contents in the CSD are indexed with templates defined in this study, and the indexed CSD is translated into XML Schema (XSD) formal Afterwards the degree of confidences of all elements between the temporary standard document (TSD) and the translated CSD are calculated by using the XML schema matching algorithm; the TSD is then updated. This second step is repeated until all of the CSD are compared. In the final step, the common elements and unbounded elements are extracted by determining the occurrence of the temporary document elements, and the standardized document schema is exported in the XSD format. The case study dealing with the structural calculation documents show that the ,proposed methodology can be effectively used to build a XML -based information model of structural design documents.

  • BIM based design methodology requires more information than traditional design methodology in order to insure efficiency throughout the project. BIM based design not only requires all building data in the form of 3D shapes, but also all other relevant data regarding building components. Information is typically grouped in a standard classification system such as by standardized material names. The development of a domestic BIM based standard classification system is yet to be created and deployed in the industry. Each designer is specifying their own building information classification systems which is causing inconsistency in the industry. Therefore BIM based designs, are causing confusion in the industry as each designer follow no guidelines for material standardization classification. The lack of information regarding this in the BIM template will continue to cause confusion about a projects building information data consistently. This study is that of preliminary research to develop a BIM template. First, overseas BIM templates were analyzed regarding BIM standards and documentation. Examination then followed regarding the element and characteristics needed for the development of a BIM template, a suggested hierarchy of elements required for a BIM template were then made. The result of this research is that it will be used to develop a "BIM template prototype", to support the generation of building information data regarding neighborhood facilities.

  • The G-protein coupled receptor 87 (GPR87) is a recently discovered orphan GPCR which means that the search of their endogenous ligands has been a novel challenge. GPR87 has been shown to be overexpressed in squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) or adenocarcinomas in lungs and bladder. The 3D structure of GPR87 was here modeled using two templates (2VT4 and 2ZIY) by a threading method. Functional assignment of GPR87 by SVM revealed that along with transporter activity, various novel functions were predicted. The 3D structure was further validated by comparison with structural features of the templates through Verify-3D, ProSA and ERRAT for determining correct stereochemical parameters. The resulting model was evaluated by Ramachandran plot and good 3D structure compatibility was evidenced by DOPE score. Molecular dynamics simulation and solvation of protein were studied through explicit spherical boundaries with a harmonic restraint membrane water system. A DRY-motif (Asp-Arg-Tyr sequence) was found at the end of transmembrane helix3, where GPCR binds and thus activation of signals is transduced. In a search for better inhibitors of GPR87, in silico modification of some substrate ligands was carried out to form polar interactions with Arg115 and Lys296. Thus, this study provides early insights into the structure of a major drug target for SCCs.

  • Diverse operating systems and developed platforms of mobile devices are implemented by vendors exist. The software has to be developed by respective environment in designing the user interface of software. For the solution of the inconvenience, this paper proposes an integrated platform 4A DUOS for developing user interface independently. The proposed platform can use web language not dependent on various operating systems, and offer online access to API and component templates to provide the convenience of the user interface design. Also, the server with on board designed user interface implements the service to the user. Therefore, the users can design the independent user interface on various mobile devices by using only one source.

  • This paper describes the application of a software fault tree analysis (FTA) as one of the analysis techniques for a software safety analysis (SSA) at the design phase and its analysis results for the safety-critical software of a digital reactor protection system, which is called the KNICS RPS, being developed in the KNICS (Korea Nuclear Instrumentation & Control Systems) project. The software modules in the design description were represented by function blocks (FBs), and the software FTA was performed based on the well-defined fault tree templates for the FBs. The SSA, which is part of the verification and validation (V&V) activities, was activated at each phase of the software lifecycle for the KNICS RPS. At the design phase, the software HAZOP (Hazard and Operability) and the software FTA were employed in the SSA in such a way that the software HAZOP was performed first and then the software FTA was applied. The software FTA was applied to some critical modules selected from the software HAZOP analysis.

  • This study investigated the method of constructing and combining blocks based on the atomic design system in order to propose a framework for rescue of a reusable design system. For that, I first looked at the necessity of a design system and examples of snow white, skeuomorphic design, flat design, and material design. In addition, molecules, atoms, organisms, templates and pages of atomic design using the principles of chemistry as metaphors were defined through literature studies. In order to implement a new framework, an interface inventory was constructed, and among them, font, color, image and control elements were extracted as core visual elements, and guidelines were defined, and molecular elements were classified and composed of atoms based on them. Blocks are constructed in the form of blocks based on the design pattern most used in the content inventory, and the framework is constructed to implement a layout based on a visual grid and design a page through a combination of blocks. The significance of this paper is that the new framework helps team consistency and collaboration by reusing blocks and supports file sharing and updating.

  • This study aims at the observation of some analytical levels-especially those of syntactico-semantical- of the visual expressions in general. As far as the syntactical parts are concerned, there were two steps to be approached. One is to select the paradigms according to the Saussure-Hambidgean suggestions, the other to derive syntagmas from what is called the 'chaos-system', one of nonlinear dynamics. In result, paradigms could be acquired 5 sorts with its so many varieties, as visual templates(VT), supplemented by their reciprocals(R) and complements(CLE), and syntagmas five orbits from each constant c=0 to c=10. In additional, in connection with semantic parts, the study introduced a Gremasian model of discourses and narratives for the interpretation of signifiers. By this, we could cover the conjunctive relationships(+) and the disjunctive(-) of the whole structure of visual expression. Finally, we certified that the above could be fully approved in terms of recent worldly cognitive scientic psychological discoveries.

  • Semiconductor gas sensors based on metal oxide are widely used in a number of applications, from health and safety to energy efficiency and emission control. Nanomaterials including nanowires, nanorods, and nanoparticles have dominated the research focus in this field owing to their large number of surface sites that facilitate surface reactions. Recently, metal oxide hollow structures using soft templates have been developed owing to their high sensing properties with large-area uniformity. Here, we provide a brief overview of metal oxide hollow structures and their gas-sensing properties from the aspects of template size, morphology, and additives. In addition, a gas-sensing mechanism and perspectives are presented.
