Clinching is a method of joining sheet metals together. This process can be substituted for the resistance spot welding on the joining of aluminum alloys. However, the joining strength of the clinching is lower than that of welding and riveting. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the effect of shape parameters of tools on the joining strength of the clinching and to optimize clinching tools. Twelve parameters have been selected as shape parameters on the clinching tools such as punch and die. The design of experiments (DOE) method is employed to investigate the effect of the shape parameters of tools on the joining strength of the clinching. The neck thickness and undercut of the clinched sheet metal after the clinching, and the separation load at detaching are estimated from the result of FEA using DEFORM. Optimal combination of shape parameters to maximize the joining strength of clinching is determined on the basis of the result of DOE and FEA. In order to validate the result of DOE and FEA, the experiment of clinching is performed for the optimal combination of shape parameters. It is shown from the result of the experiment that optimization of shape parameters improves the joining strength of clinching.
The diesel engine generate many pollutants such as PM(Particulate matter) and NOx(Nitrogen oxide). So the SCR(Selective catalytic reduction) must be required to meet the emission standard. The SCR catalyst market is growing rapidly, and the automobile markets using alternative energy sources are growing rapidly. This study deals with optimization of the calcination process the manufacturing process of SCR catalyst to be competitive. The calcination process is a bottleneck and it is required to optimize productivity and accept to be safety, But we cannot trade off anything in terms of safety. We applied DOE(Design of experiments) among many research methods performed in various fields. In order to achieve quality and productivity optimization. The dependent variables in the DOE were selected as NO Conversion(%). The independent variables were selected as the calcination temperature, soaking time and fan speed RPM. the CCD(Central composite designs) constructs response surface using the data onto experience and finds optimum levels within the fitted response surfaces. Our tests are our stability guarantee and efficient together with operation.

Although there has been substantial research on the squeal noise for the automotive brake system, robust design issues with respect to control factors equivalent to design variables in optimization, noise factors due to system uncertainties, and signal factors designed to accommodate a user-adjustable setting still need to be addressed. For the purpose, the robust design applied to the disk brake system has been investigated by DOE (Design of Experiments) based Taguchi analysis with dynamic characteristics. The specific goal of this methodology is to identify a design with linear signal-response relationship, and variability minimization. The finite element models of the disk brake assembly have been constructed, and the squeal noise problems have been solved by complex eigenvalue analysis. As the practical robust design to reduce the brake squeal noise, material properties of pad, disk, and backplate, thickness and geometry of pad are selected as control factors, material properties of pad and disk, and the contact stiffness have been considered as noise factors, and friction coefficient between pad and disk is chosen as a signal factor. Through the DOE based robust design, the signal-to-noise ratio and the sensitivity for each orthogonal array experiment have been analyzed. Also, it has been proved that the proposed robust design is effective and adequate to reduce the brake squeal noise.

This research studied robust design of column part for LCD transfer system. $1^{st}$ DOE(Design of Experiment)was conducted to find out main effect factors. 36 experiments were performed and their results were shows that the geometric parameters(Low-length, Side-length, Upper-thickness, Middle-thickness)are more important than other factors. The main effect plots shows that the maximum deflection of column is minimized with increasing Low-length, Side-length, under-thickness and Middle-thickness. $2^{nd}$ DOE was conducted to obtain RMS(Response Surface Method)equation 25 experiments were conducted. The CCD(Central Composite Design)technique with four factors were used. The coefficient of determination $(R^2)$ for the calculated RSM equation was 0.986. Optimum design was conducted using the RSM equation Multi-island genetic algorithm was used to optimum design. Optimum value for Low-length. Side-length, Upper-thickness and Middle-thickness were 299.8mm, 180.3mm, 21.7mm, 21.9mm respectively. An approximate value of 5.054mm in deflection was expected to be a maximum under the optimum conditions. Six sigma robust design was conducted to find out guideline for control range of design parameter. To acquire six sigma level reliability, the standard deviation of design parameter should be controlled within 2% of average design value.
The need for high-frequency decoupling capacitors to supply the transient current requirements to high-speed devices is ubiquitous in current microelectronics applications. Even though materials and their processes have already been developed in terms of their performances, low manufacturing cost cannot be overemphasized in current microelectronics industry. For this reason, we revisited low cost ceramic filled polymer integrated capacitor. Experiments were performed according to the design of experiment (DOE). The best recipe that has the optimized ratio of material composite was obtained using by response optimizer in Minitab. And also, high-frequency measurements were performed to get frequency dependent data using network analyzer.

In this paper a method for the design optimization for helicopter rotor blade in hover is studied Numerical analysis of aerodynamic characteristics of the flow around a rotor blade is analysed by usign panel method and CFD code based on Navier-Stokes equation. The result is validated by comparing with existing experimental result. Optimization methods RSM(Response Surface Method) and DOE(Design of Experiments) are applied in combination. The object functions are power, twist angle, taper ratio, and thrust. The optimized result showed a decrease of 17% of the power required.

The inequitable flow distribution to flocculation basins is an important problem faced in many water treatment plants. This is caused by the structure of a distribution channel, the height differences of outlet weirs etc. But, a modified approach for the structures has no effectiveness to achieve flow equality. The aim of this study is to reduce the inequality by adopting optimized inlet valve opening (%) of the flocculation basins using DOE (Design of Experiments) and RSA (Response Surface Analysis). The inlet valve openings (%) and inflow distributions (%) of 6 paralleled basins were set as factors (X) and characteristics(Y) respectively. 2 level factorial experiments and RSA were conducted for optimization and regression analysis (Y = f(X) + Const.). Adopting the optimized inlet valve opening (%) at field, standard deviation of flow distribution (%) and effluent turbidity was declined from 3.80% to 0.42% and from 0.29 NTU to 0.03 NTU respectively.

Recently, the need for subminiature storage systems has increased with the diversification of portable devices. An actuator for small optical disk drives has to satisfy performance requirements such as higher access speed, lower power consumption, and smaller size. In this paper, we proposed the miniaturized rotary type VCM actuator that had an effective focusing mechanism and secured sufficient bandwidth for small form factor (SFF) optical disk drive (ODD). Initial model was designed by electromagnetic (EM) and structural analyses. Such a model was improved using design of experiments (DOE) procedure based on a Blu-ray disk (BD) 1x specifications.
Composite materials are rapidly gaining popularity as an alternative to metals for structural and load bearing applications in the aerospace, automotive, alternate energy and consumer industries. With the advent of thermoplastic composites and advances in recycling technologies, fully recyclable composites are gaining ground over traditional thermoset composites. Stamp forming as an alternative processing technique for sheet products has proven to be effective in allowing the fast manufacturing rates required for mass production of components. This study investigates the feasibility of using the stamp forming technique for the processing of thermoplastic, recyclable composite materials. The material system used in this study is a self-reinforced polypropylene composite material (Curv$^{(R)}$). The investigation includes a detailed experimental study based on strain measurements using a non-contact optical measurement system in conjunction with stamping equipment to record and measure the formability of the thermoplastic composites in real time. A Design of Experiments (DOE) methodology was adopted to elucidate the effect of process parameters that included blank holder force, pre heat temperature and feed rate on stamp forming. DOE analyses indicate that feed rate had negligible influence on the strain evolution during stamp forming and blank holder force and preheat temperature had significant effect on strain evolution during forming.
