The paper describes the improvement on concurrent subspace optimization(CSSO) via automatic differentiation. CSSO is an efficient strategy to coupled multidisciplinary design optimization(MDO), wherein the original design problem is non-hierarchically decomposed into a set of smaller, more tractable subspaces. Key elements in CSSO are consisted of global sensitivity equation, subspace optimization, optimum sensitivity analysis, and coordination optimization problem that require frequent use of 1st order derivatives to obtain design sensitivity information. The current version of CSSO adopts automatic differentiation scheme to provide a robust sensitivity solution. Automatic differentiation has numerical effectiveness over finite difference schemes tat require the perturbed finite step size in design variable. ADIFOR(Automatic Differentiation In FORtran) is employed to evaluate sensitivities in the present work. The use of exact function derivatives facilitates to enhance the numerical accuracy during the iterative design process. The paper discusses how much the automatic differentiation based approach contributes design performance, compared with traditional all-in-one(non-decomposed) and finite difference based approaches.
The purpose of this study is to deduct influence factors by analyzing preferences for public design that can increase user satisfaction through differentiated identity of regions. The study methods are as follows. First, consider a concept and semantic change of public design through the relevant literatures and precedent studies and then understand application status of domestic and overseas public design. Second, extract design elements for regional differentiation through precedent studies and reclassify regional resources that have an effect. Third, understand the necessity level of public design for regional differentiation by targeting experts and research the extracted design element and the degree of reflection about regionality. Lastly, understand a correlation between design elements and influence factors about territorial regionality of public design based on the researched contents, and analyze the degree of reflection between each other. As a result of this study, a plan that used 'material' and 'color' had high preference on the aspect of design elements and this is an important element that can show regional differentiation of regions. public design of showing regional differentiation. Thus, it is considered that various methods of using 'material' and 'color' must be planned. 'Public space' among design territories was most effective, and the following was 'public facility'. In particular, 'public space' has high preference of using 'natural resources' and 'industrial resources', and therefore an effect of a plan that uses these is judged to be positive. This study can use these results as basic data that suggested the standard for utilization of regional factors for regional differentiation of public design.
Design sensitivity analysis scheme is proposed in an elasto -plastic finite element method with explicit time integration using a direct differentiation method. The direct differentiation is concerned with large deformation, the elasto-plastic constitutive relation, shell elements with reduced integration and the contact scheme. The design sensitivities with respect to the process parameter are calculated with the direct analytical differentiation of the governing equation. The sensitivity results obtained from the present theory are compared with that obtained by the finite difference method in a class of sheet metal forming problems such as hemi-spherical stretching and cylindrical cup deep-drawing. The result shows good agreement with the finite difference method and demonstrates that the preposed sensitivity calculation scheme is a pplicable in the complicated sheet metal forming analysis and design.
The paper describes the study of concurrent subspace optimization(CSSO) for coupled multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) techniques in mechanical systems. This method is a solution to large scale coupled multidisciplinary system, wherein the original problem is decomposed into a set of smaller, more tractable subproblems. Key elements in CSSO are consisted of global sensitivity equation(GSE), subspace optimization (SSO), optimum sensitivity analysis(OSA), and coordination optimization problem(COP) so as to inquiry valanced design solutions finally, Automatic differentiation has an ability to provide a robust sensitivity solution, and have shown the numerical numerical effectiveness over finite difference schemes wherein the perturbed step size in design variable is required. The present paper will develop the automatic differentiation based concurrent subspace optimization(AD-CSSO) in MDO. An automatic differentiation tool in FORTRAN(ADIFOR) will be employed to evaluate sensitivities. The use of exact function derivatives in GSE, OSA and COP makes Possible to enhance the numerical accuracy during the iterative design process. The paper discusses how much influence on final optimal design compared with traditional all-in-one approach, finite difference based CSSO and AD-CSSO applying coupled design variables.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the concept of 'Gradual Differentiation' in parametric design in terms of pure model logic and thus describe the distinctive feature from the previous design method. To meet the purpose, it explores external cases like gradual factor identified in natural phenomenon and artworks and define the inherent model principles into "Self-similarity', "Correlation', and 'Temporality' by examining these features in terms of algorithm. Meanwhile, it identified the principle of gradual model representation in parametric design within a single system called 'Attractor System' by applying these three concepts into specific methods of parametric design, and by interpreting the logical structure through the association among 'Attractor', 'Field', and 'Differentiation'. The creative utilization of parameter shows that gradual model process in parametric design does not mean a passive "conversion process" merely replacing natural parameter with algorithm; rather, it refers to an active "generating process" creating new meanings and value. By continuing this process of conceptual understanding and insight, creative perspective and practical ability to interpret parameter can be improved.
In gradient based optimization methods, the finite differencing which uses small perturbations in the design variables has been used to calculate the sensitivity. Recently, the automatic differentiation has been widely studied to calculate the function value and the sensitivities simultaneously. In this paper, the applicability of the automatic differentiation In the aerodynamic design optimization is studied. ADIFOR and TAPENADE are used to generate the codes which give the function value and the sensitivities for 2D compressible inviscid flows.
Objective: Fat deposition in poultry is an important factor in production performance and meat quality research. miRNAs also play important roles in regulating adipocyte differentiation process. This study was to investigate the expression patterns of miRNAs in duck adipocytes after differentiation and explore the role of miR-214 in regulating carnitine palmitoyltransferases 2 (CPT2) gene expression during duck adipocyte differentiation. Methods: Successful systems for the isolation, culture, and induction of duck primary fat cells was developed in the experiment. Using Illumina next-generation sequencing, the miRNAs libraries of duck adipocytes were established. miRanda was used to predict differentially expressed (DE) miRNAs and their target genes. The expression patterns of miR-214 and CPT2 during the differentiation were verified by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and western blot. Luciferase reporter assays were used to explore the specific regions of CPT2 targeted by miR-214. We used a miR-214 over-expression strategy in vitro to further investigate its effect on differentiation process and CPT2 gene transcription. Results: There were 481 miRNAs identified in duck adipocytes, included 57 DE miRNA candidates. And the 1,046 targets genes of DE miRNAs were mainly involved in p53 signaling, FoxO signaling, and fatty acid metabolism pathways. miR-214 and CPT2 showed contrasting expression patterns before and after differentiation, and they were selected for further research. The expression of miR-214 was decreased during the first 3 days of duck adipocytes differentiation, and then increased, while the expression of CPT2 increased both in the transcriptional and protein level. The luciferase assay suggested that miR-214 targets the 3'untranslated region of CPT2. Overexpression of miR-214 not only promoted the formation of lipid droplets but also decreased the protein abundance of CPT2. Conclusion: Current study reports the expression profile of miRNAs in duck adipocytes differentiated for 4 days. And miR-214 has been proved to have the regulator potential for fat deposition in duck.
Three methods for design sensitivity such as numerical differentiation, analytical method and semi-analytical method have been developed for the last three decades. Although analytical design sensitivity analysis is exact, it is hard to implement for practical design problems. Therefore, numerical method such as finite difference method is widely used to simply obtain the design sensitivity in most cases. The numerical differentiation is sufficiently accurate and reliable for most linear problems. However, it turns out that the numerical differentiation is inefficient and inaccurate because its computational cost depends on the number of design variables and large numerical errors can be included especially in nonlinear design sensitivity analysis. Thus semi-analytical method is more suitable for complicated design problems. Moreover semi-analytical method is easy to be performed in design procedure, which can be coupled with an analysis solver such as commercial finite element package. In this paper, implementation procedure for the semi-analytical design sensitivity analysis outside of the commercial finite element package is studied and computational technique is proposed, which evaluates the pseudo-load for design sensitivity analysis easily by using the design variation of corresponding internal nodal forces. Errors in semi-analytical design sensitivity analysis are examined and numerical examples are illustrated to confirm the reduction of numerical error considerably.
