Thermal Stress Analysis of Piping Systems in Steam-driven Power Engines (증기 동력기관 내 배관시스템의 열응력 해석)

  • The piping systems in the steam-driven power engines lie under the cyclic condition of thermal expansion and contraction by superheated steam. These phenomena might cause some severe damages on the pipes and the accessory devices. To avoid these damages, the calculation of the proper strength and the consideration of the reduced resultant forces on the materials are needed. In the present study, numerical investigations on the effects of the thermal deformation of the industrial piping system were performed with comparison of the design data. Commercial software, ABAQUS with the thermal-fluidic loadings based on the design conditions was used for the thermal stress analysis of the piping system. From the analysis of the initially-designed pipe supporters, the rearrangement was suggested to improve the piping design.

  • The design of the prestressed cold extrusion die with two stress rings has been performed in this study. The cold extrusion has been simulated by the rigid-plastic FEM. The stress analysis of die has been performed for both after shrink fitting and during extrusion by using the elastic FEM and the Lame's equation. According to the variation of interferences and diameter ratios, the maximum effective stress has been evaluated. As results, interferences and diameters were determined by the minimization of the maximum effective stress of die insert. The comparison of the maximum effective stress between the proposed design and the conventional design has been discussed. It was found that the maximum effective stress in the die insert is considerably affected by the stiffness of the first stress ring.

  • This study was conducted to derive optimal design floods by Generalized Extreme-value(GEV) distribution for the annual maximum series at ten watersheds along Han, Nagdong, Geum, Yeongsan and Seomjin river systems. Adequacy for the analysis of flood data used in this study was established by the tests of Independence, Homogeneity, detection of Outliers. L-coefficient of variation, L-skewness and L-kurtosis were calculated by L-moment ratio respectively. Parameters were estimated by the Methods of Moments and L-Moments. Design floods obtained by Methods of Moments and L-Moments using different methods for plotting positions in GEV distribution were compared by the relative mean and relative absolute error. It was found that design floods derived by the method of L-moments using weibull plotting position formula in GEV distribution are much closer to those of the observed data in comparison with those obtained by method of moments using different formulas for plotting positions in view of relative mean and relative absolute error.

  • In this study, we analyzed the old`s characteristics for depth perception in comparison with the young`s as a basic study for universal design in field of products or facilities. Twenty three of the old and twenty two of the young had participated and the depth perception apparatus was used in this experiment. Gender, viewing distance, and age were considered as factors and the differences of depth perception were analyzed for each experimental condition. In the result, a significant difference was not detected on gender, but significant differences were detected on age and viewing distance. That is, we can see that the old is remarkably worse than the young on depth perception task. Therefore, it means that these characteristics have to be absolutely considered in user interface design to improve the old`s accessibility for products or facilities.

The focus of this paper is to find a design solution through the comparison of torque density and minimum current density resulting from rotor shape variations. And then, a central composite design (CCD) mixed resolution is introduced, and analysis of variance (ANOVA) is conducted to determine the significance of the fitted regression model.

  • In this paper, the conceptual design of satellite digital base put which is based upon data interface between satellite on-board computer and remote devices like satellite sub-components is presented. This conceptual design shows the unification of the interface between on-board computer and satellite remote devices and the hierarchical results of the interface level. A comparison of different system and merits and demerits of digital base part coming from this conceptual design is performed.

  • This paper deals with the characteristics analysis & optimum design of Synchronous Reluctance Motor (SynRM) with anisotropy rotor using a coupled Finite Element Method (FEM) & Response Surface Methodology (RSM). The focus of this paper is the characteristics analysis & optimum design relative to the output power on the basis of rotor materials of a SynRM. The coupled Finite Elements Analysis (FEA) & Preisach model have been used to evaluate nonlinear solutions. Comparisons are given with characteristics of normal synchronous reluctance motor and those of anisotropy rotor SynRM (ANISO-SynRM), respectively. The feasibility of using RSM with FEM in practical engineering problem is investigated with computational examples and comparison between the fitted response and the results obtained from an analytical solution according to the design variables of rotor in anisotropy rotor SynRM.
