While many success stories are reported in the area of RFID applications, actual RFID deployments in industry are being realized a lot slower than expected. One of the main reasons for that is the lack of decision makers' understanding on the RFID ROI. In this research we drew a comprehensive list of cost and benefit items regarding RFID deployments especially for distribution and retail industry. In addition, we mapped these cost/benefit items to corresponding SCOR processes so that users can easily utilize the suggested cost-benefit analysis model when they want to improve their own processes using the RFID technology. The developed cost-benefit analysis model was implemented as a software tool for convenient use. Our research results can be used not only for those who want to evaluate the RFID technology prior to actual deployment but also by the researchers in this area.
To perform on-line maintenance for Distributed Information System, it is indispensable to disseminate files to participant nodes in the network. When users' requests for file deployment occur simultaneously in a short period a deployment server falls into overload phase, which is often called Flash Crowds. h common solution to avoid Flash Crowds is to increase hardware capacity. In this paper, we propose a software solution based on P2P, which does not cost any additional expense. In the proposed solution, nodes in the network are grouped into subnetworks one of which is composed of only neighboring nodes. In each subnetwork, copies of deployment files can be transferred to each other. Consequently, it brings about the effect of load balancing in deployment server. To raise the effectiveness, target files for deployment are packed into one package. Before being transferred, each package is divided into multiple equal-sized segments. A deployment server in a normal phase transmits a package requested from nodes in segment units. However a deployment server is overloaded, if segments already exist in the subnetwork participant nodes in the subnetwork receive necessary segments from neighboring nodes. In this paper, we propose data structures and algorithm for this approach and show performance improvement through simulation.

For the PBL contract, it is necessary for the contracting parties to share information regarding the reasonable inventory-level and the cost of its repair parts for the estimated demand. There are various models which can be used for this purpose. Among them, V-METRIC model is considered to be the most efficient and is most frequently applied. However, this model is usually used for optimizing the inventory level of the repair parts of the system under operation. The model uses a time series forecast model to determine the demand rate, which is a mandatory input factor for the model, based on past field data. However, since the system at the deployment stage has no operational performance record, it is necessary to find another alternative to be used as the demand rate of the model application. This research applies the V-METRIC model to find the optimal inventory level and cost estimation for repairable items to meet the target operational availability, which is a key performance indicator, at the time of the PBL contract for the deployment system. This study uses the calculated value based on the allocated MTBF to the system as the demand rate, which is used as input data for the model. Also, we would like to examine changes in inventory level and cost according to the changes in target operational availability and MTBF allocation.
Renewable energy sources play a key role in achieving carbon neutrality and zero net emissions in the power generation sector. Various efforts have been made to support the deployment of renewable energy, particularly solar photovoltaic and wind power, including policies to internalize the external cost of carbon emissions. In this study, we conducted a financial analysis of a 800 MW floating photovoltaic system and compared it with ground solar power generation. Additionally, we conducted a cost-benefit analysis that included the social cost of carbon. The findings showed that the floating photovoltaic project can meet the profitability target through an appropriately designed internalization of the social cost of carbon.

Recently, the new issues for the safety and the information delivery system in the ship are raised. The deployment and the efficient algorithms of deploying the wireless sensor networks instead of using the built-in wired networks or the setup of the new wired networks is more desirable than the deployment of the wired networks in a ship after its final production since it can reduce the cost and the time of the brand new wired networks by reshaping some of the internal structure of the ship. In this paper, the shipboard signal propagation measurement system based on the signature sequence-three way slave mode are designed and its measureed data are analysed after measuring the signal propagation characteristics. Consequently, it is expected that the reliable and cost-effective signal measurement system with the three way algorithm for the deployment of the shipboard wireless networks can be achieved.

Recently, the demand for the safety and the information delivery system in the ship increases. The deployment of the wireless sensor networks instead of using the built-in wired networks or the setup of the new wired networks is more desirable than the deployment of the wired networks in a ship after its final production since it can reduce the cost and the time of the brand new wired networks by deforming some of the internal structure of the ship. In this paper, the shipboard signal propagation measurement system based on the signature sequence-two way slave mode are designed and its measurement data are analysed after measuring the signal propagation characteristics. Consequently, it is expected that the reliable and cost-effective signal measurement system for the deployment of the shipboard wireless networks can be built.

In recent years, use of the web technologies and on-line process has immensely swapped single-user platform practice. This study attempted to develop preliminary cost estimating program by means of Web technologies based on statistical modeling results. A prototype Web-based Preliminary Item-Level Cost Estimating System (WBPILCES) using open source software was developed as an on-line estimating tool in this research. The primary objective is to study the possible flexibility of implementing a centralized information system that will be maintained by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) IT division. The full-scale deployment of proposed information architecture is expected to seamlessly integrate with legacy database system currently used by TxDOT so as to streamline data storage, cost growth tracking and estimates documentation.
The increase in data traffic calls for investment in mobile networks; however, the saturating revenue of mobile broadband and increasing capital expenditure are discouraging mobile operators from investing in next-generation mobile networks. Mobile network sharing is a viable solution for operators and regulators to resolve this dilemma. This research uses a difference-in-differences analysis of 33 operators (including 11 control operators) to empirically evaluate the cost reduction effect of mobile network sharing. The results indicate a reduction in overall operating expenditure and short-term capital expenditure by national roaming. This finding implies that future technology and standards development should focus on flexible network operation and maintenance, energy efficiency, and maximizing economies of scale in radio access networks. Furthermore, mobile network sharing will become more viable and relevant in a 5G network deployment as spectrum bands are likely to increase the total cost of ownership of mobile networks and technical enablers will facilitate network sharing.

RFID tag is detected by an RFID antenna and information is read from the tag detected, by an RFID reader. RFID tag detection by an RFID reader is very important at the deployment stage. Tag detection is influenced by factors such as tag direction on a target object, speed of a conveyer moving the object, and the contents of an object. The water content of the object absorbs radio waves at high frequencies, typically approximately 900 MHz, resulting in unstable tag signal power. Currently, finding the best conditions for factors influencing the tag detection requires very time consuming work at deployment. Thus, a quick and simple RFID tag detection scheme is needed to improve the current time consuming trial-and-error experimental method. This paper proposes a back-propagation learning-based RFID tag detection prediction scheme, which is intelligent and has the advantages of ease of use and time/cost savings. The results of simulation with the proposed scheme demonstrate a high prediction accuracy for tag detection on a water content, which is comparable with the current method in terms of time/cost savings.
Numerous advanced reactor concepts have been proposed to replace light water reactors ever since their establishment as the dominant technology for nuclear energy production. While most designs seek to improve cost competitiveness and safety, the implausibility of doing so with affordable materials or existing nuclear fuel infrastructure reduces the possibility of near-term deployment, especially in developing countries. The organic nuclear concept, first explored in the 1950s, offers an attractive alternative to advanced reactor designs being considered. The advent of high temperature fluids, along with advances in hydrocracking and reforming technologies driven by the oil and gas industries, make the organic concept even more viable today. We present a simple, cost-effective, and safe small modular nuclear reactor for offshore underwater deployment. The core is moderated by graphite, zirconium hydride, and organic fluid while cooled by the organic fluid. The organic coolant enables operation near atmospheric pressure and use of plain carbon steel for the reactor tank and primary coolant piping system. The core is designed to mitigate the coolant degradation seen in early organic reactors. Overall, the design provides a power density of 40 kW/L, while reducing the reactor hull size by 40% compared with a pressurized water reactor while significantly reducing capital plant costs.
