Purpose: The aim of study was to compare the dimensional stability of digitized dental stone replica using different color of gypsum materials using a white light scanner with three-dimensional software. Methods: A master model(500B-1, Nissin dental product, Japan) with the prepared lower full arch tooth was used. Several type IV stones(white, yellow, green) were used for 30 stone casts(10 casts each) duplicated a master model of mandible. The master model and the replicas were digitized with the non-contacting white light scanner to create 3-dimensional digital models. The linear distance between the reference points were measured and analyzed on the Delcam Copycad$^{(R)}$(Delcam plc, UK) 3D graphic software. One-way analysis of variance(ANOVA) combined with a Tukey multiple-range test were used to analysis the data(${\alpha}$=0.05). Results: There were considerable differences in mean values between gypsum materials within each color(white, yellow, green), and this difference was statistically significant, p=0.001. Conclusion: Digitization of dental materials on optical scanner was affected by color. Three different color of gypsum materials showed clinically acceptable accuracies of full arch digital model produced by them. Besides, these results will have to be confirmed in further clinical studies.
Aim : This study was conducted to assess the oral health status of deaf and mute children attending special school. Materials and Methods : A cross-sectional descriptive survey was conducted among 137 deaf and mute children with ages ranging from 7 to 18 years. A total of 76 males (55.47%) with mean age of $14.2{\pm}4.5$ and 61 females (44.53%) with mean age of $13.8{\pm}4.2$ years and studying in a school for deaf and mute children in Warora were considered. Data were collected using a standard method recommended by WHO for the oral health survey in 1977. Oral health status was assessed using OHIS, Loe and Sinless, and CPI Index along with DMFT and DMFS Index. Gingival position was considered for measuring attachment loss. Statistical analysis was performed using the SPSS software package (version 17.0). Results : The mean DMFT was found to be $2.53{\pm}1.72$, and mean DMFS, $3.37{\pm}3.16$. The prevalence of dental caries was pegged at 35.32%, with mean OHIS score at $1.49{\pm}0.76$. Overall gingival index among deaf and mute children was $0.81{\pm}1.4$, whereas that for the upper arch and lower arch was $0.92{\pm}0.84$ and $1.19{\pm}0.95$, respectively. The mean score for the CPI Index among deaf and mute children was found to be $0.42{\pm}0.32$. Gingival clinical attachment loss was found to be $0.26{\pm}0.15mm$. Conclusion : These findings suggest that children with hearing disabilities can also have good oral hygiene comparable to normal individuals of the same age group. These results may be attributed to the fact that the study sample was taken from a single school of a private organization with a well-equipped dental setup.

Objective: This study aimed to compare the effects of conventional and orthodontic mini-implant (OMI) anchorage on tooth movement and arch-dimension changes in the maxillary dentition in Class II division 1 (CII div.1) patients. Methods: CII div.1 patients treated with extraction of the maxillary first and mandibular second premolars and sliding mechanics were allotted to conventional anchorage group (CA, n = 12) or OMI anchorage group (OA, n = 12). Pre- and post-treatment three-dimensional virtual maxillary models were superimposed using the best-fit method. Linear, angular, and arch-dimension variables were measured with software program. Mann-Whitney U-test and Wilcoxon signed-rank test were performed for statistical analysis. Results: Compared to the CA group, the OMI group showed more backward movement of the maxillary central and lateral incisors and canine (MXCI, MXLI, MXC, respectively; 1.6 mm, p < 0.001; 0.9 mm, p < 0.05; 1.2 mm, p < 0.001); more intrusion of the MXCI and MXC (1.3 mm, 0.5 mm, all p < 0.01); less forward movement of the maxillary second premolar, first, and second molars (MXP2, MXM1, MXM2, respectively; all 1.0 mm, all p < 0.05); less contraction of the MXP2 and MXM1 (0.7 mm, p < 0.05; 0.9 mm, p < 0.001); less mesial-in rotation of the MXM1 and MXM2 ($2.6^{\circ}$, $2.5^{\circ}$, all p < 0.05); and less decrease of the inter-MXP2, MXM1, and MXM2 widths (1.8 mm, 1.5 mm, 2.0 mm, all p < 0.05). Conclusions: In treatment of CII div.1 malocclusion, OA provided better anchorage and less arch-dimension change in the maxillary posterior teeth than CA during en-masse retraction of the maxillary anterior teeth.

Objective: To analyze the long-term changes in maxillary arch widths and buccal corridor ratios in orthodontic patients treated with and without premolar extractions. Methods: The study included 53 patients who were divided into the extraction (n = 28) and nonextraction (n = 25) groups. These patients had complete orthodontic records from the pretreatment (T1), posttreatment (T2), and postretention (T3) periods. Their mean retention and postretention times were 4 years 2 months and 17 years 8 months, respectively. Dental models and smiling photographs from all three periods were digitized to compare the changes in three dental arch width measurements and three buccal corridor ratios over time between the extraction and nonextraction groups. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance tests. Post-hoc multiple comparisons were made using Bonferroni correction. Results: Soft-tissue extension during smiling increased with age in both groups. The maximum dental width to smile width ratio (MDW/SW) also showed a favorable increase with treatment in both groups (p < 0.05), and remained virtually stable at T3 (p > 0.05). According to the MDW/SW ratio, the mean difference in the buccal corridor space of the two groups was $2.4{\pm}0.2%$ at T3. Additionally, no significant group ${\times}$ time interaction was found for any of the buccal corridor ratios studied. Conclusions: Premolar extractions did not negatively affect transverse maxillary arch widths and buccal corridor ratios. The long-term outcome of orthodontic treatment was comparable between the study groups.
There were many studies that distribute the partial edentulous states and examine the removable partial denture designs in the planning of removable partial denture treatment. This study was performed in the point of removable partial denture prescription to evaluate partial edentulism and its removable partial denture designs. The data was collected from the dental laboratory of each three dental colleges in Seoul and from two dental laboratories only for removable partial dentures as a prescription form. A total of 1411 cases with prescription form collected from dental laboratories were distributed for this study, then 788 cases were selected for this study. The case selection was done according to the contents of prescription form. The selected cases were divided into maxillary arch and mandibular and classified in terms of types of major connector and direct retainer, unbroken anterior teeth, Kennedy classification, the number of remaining teeth, and distribution of age and sex. The analyzed results were as follows : 1. The Kennedy classification I showed highest frequency both in maxilla and mandible. 2. The arch distribution of removable partial denture was 50.08% for maxilla and 49.92% for mandible. 3. The highest frequency in the distribution of direct retainer was the RPA clasp design. 4. The frequency of unbroken anterior 6 was 73.36% for maxilla and 82.30% for mandible. 5. The design of broad palatal strap and lingual bar revealed the highest prevalence in the major connector construction. 6. The mean number of remaining teeth per arch was 8.25 for maxilla and 8.37 for mandible. 7. The mean age of the patients supplied with removable partial denture was 52.25 years for men, 51.68 years for women, 52.11 years for maxilla, and 51.76 years for mandible and women showed more prevalence.
This study was performed to investigate the age distribution with tooth calcification and degree of eruption of permanent teeth. For the study, healthy 184 patients from 5 to 19 years old without any previous serious dental treatment were randomly selected, and intraoral standard films and dental casts were taken for evaluation of stage of calcification and degree of eruption, respectively. Tooth calcification of 13 stages, designed by the author based on the Nolla's classification and eruption level of 4 or 5 degree was used. Data were processed by SAS/Stat program and the obtained results were as follows; 1. The age of root completed with open apex in lower posterior teeth were 13.8 years for first premolar, 14.0 years for second premolar, 10.5 years for first molar, and 14.2 years for second molar. There were no significant difference between right and left side. 2. As for the sequence of eruption, first molar was the first teeth erupted in upper arch, while central incisor was the first teeth in lower arch. In general, eruption of lower teeth were slightly earlier than the corresponding teeth of upper arch. 3. There were no difference of age of the same stage of development between Nolla's and the author's classification. From the results, the author's classification can be used for estimation of age with more finely in age of 8 to 15 years old. 4. Multiple regression equations for age with Nolla's(Ns) and the author's(Ks) classification of tooth calcification, and degree of eruption(DE) were as follow; Age(by #34) = 7.55 + 0.76Ks34 + 0.80DE34 - 0.72Ns34 Age(by #35) = 7.10 + 0.81Ks35 + 0.6IDE35 Age(by #37) = 6.61 + 0.82Ks37 + 0.5IDE37. Age(by #44) = 7.02 + 0.62Ks44 + 0.82DE44 Age(by #45) = 8.04 + 0.93Ks45 + 0.64DE45 - 0.89Ns45 Age(by #47) = 6.40 + 0.86Ks47 + 0.56DE47.
The purpose of this longitudinal study was to measure and analyze the width and length changes of dental arches at age 7 to 9. 66 children were selected for this study. Stone models obtained from these children were measured and analyzed annually. The results were as follow. 1. The widths of upper arch increased by age both in males and females except the region of second deciduous molars. 2. The widths of lower arch increased by age significantly both in males and females. 3. The lengths of dental arches increased by age both in males and females at anterior portion. ; did not increase at Posterior portion. 4. The upper widths of males were wider than those of females at age 9, but no significant difference were present at age 7 and 8. 5. The differences of the lower widths between males and females were not present except the region of the second deciduous molars (E-E) at age 7. 6. There were few differences between the lengths of males and females except the posterior lengthes at age 7. 7. The widths and lengths of upper arches were difinitely wider and longer than lower arches.
Purpose: The aim of this retrospective study was to investigate the cumulative success rate, the implant survival rate, and the occurrence of biological complications in implants supporting full-arch immediately loaded rehabilitations supported by upright and tilted implants. Methods: The clinical records and periapical radiographs of patients who attended follow-up visits were collected, and information was recorded regarding marginal bone loss resorption, the occurrence of peri-implant infectious diseases, and the implant survival rate. Implants were classified as successful or not successful according to two distinct classifications for implant success. Results: A total of 53 maxillary and mandibular restorations including 212 implants were analysed, of which 56 implants were studied over the full five-year follow-up period. After five years, the cumulative success rate was 76.04% according to the Misch classification and 56.34% according to the Albrektsson classification. The cumulative implant survival rate was 100%, although one implant was found to be affected by peri-implantitis at the second follow-up visit. Conclusions: The cumulative success rate of the implants dropped over time, corresponding to the progression of marginal bone resorption. The prevalence of peri-implantitis was very low, and the implant survival rate was not found to be related to the cumulative success rate.
