Electrochemical properties of Ti-30Ta-$(3{\sim}15)$Nb alloys coated by HA/Ti compound layer have been studied by various electrochemical method. Ti-30Ta binary alloys contained 3, 7, 10, and 15 wt% Nb contents were manufactured by the vacuum furnace system. The specimens were homogenized for 24 hrs at $1000^{\circ}C$. The samples were cut and polished for corrosion test and coating. It was coated with HA/Ti compound layer by magnetron sputter. The HA/Ti non-coated and coated morphology of Ti alloy were analyzed by x-ray diffractometer(XRD) and filed emission scanning electron microscope(FE-SEM). The corrosion behaviors were investigated using potentiodynamic method in 0.9% NaCl solution at $36.5{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. The homoginazed Ti-30Ta-$(3{\sim}15wt%$)Nb alloys showed the ${\alpha}+{\beta}$ phase, and ${\beta}$ phase peak was predominantly appeared with increasing Nb content. The microstructure of Ti alloy was transformed from needle-like structure to equiaxed structure as Nb content increased. HA/Ti composite surface showed uniform coating layer with 750 nm thickness. The corrosion resistance of HA/Ti composite coated Ti-alloys were higher than those of the non-coated samples in 0.9% NaCl solution at $36.5{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. Especially, corrosion resistance of Ti-Ta-Nb system increased as Nb content increased.

A.C. impedance properties of HA/Ti compound layer coated Ti-30Ta-($3{\sim}15$)Nb alloys have been studied by electrochemical method. Ti-30Ta binary alloys contained 3, 7, 10 and 15 wt% Nb were manufactured by the vacuum furnace system. And then specimen was homogenized at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 24 hrs. The sample was cut and polished for corrosion test and coating. It was coated with HA/Ti compound layer by magnetron sputter. The non-coated and coated morphology of Ti alloy were analyzed by X-ray diffractometer (XRD), energy X-ray dispersive spectroscopy (EDX) and filed emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM). The corrosion behaviors were investigated using A.C. impedance test (PARSTAT 2273, USA) in 0.9% NaCl solution at $36.5{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. Ti-30Ta-($3{\sim}15\;wt%$)Nb alloys showed the ${\alpha}+{\beta}$ phase, and $\beta$ phase peak was predominantly appeared in the case of increasingly Nb contents. The microstructures of Ti alloy were transformed from needle-like structure to equiaxed structure as Nb content increased. From the analysis of coating surface, HA/Ti composite surface uniformed coating layer with 750 nm thickness. The growth directions of film were (211), (112), (300) and (202) for HA/Ti composite coating on the surface after heat treatment at $550^{\circ}C$, whereas, the growth direction of film was (110) for Ti coating. The polarization resistance ($R_p$) of HA/Ti composite coated Ti-alloys were higher than those of the Ti and HA coated samples in 0.9% NaCl solution at $36.5{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. Especially, corrosion resistance of Ti-Ta-Nb system increased as Nb content increased.
Purpose: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of various primers on the microtensile bond strength (${\mu}TBS$) of resin cements to cobalt-chromium (Co-Cr) dental casting alloy. Materials and methods: Four adhesive primers (Universal primer, Metal primer II, Alloy primer, and Metal/Zirconia primer) and two resin cements (Panavia F2.0, G-CEM LinkAce) were tested. One hundred fifty Co-Cr beams were prepared from Co-Cr ingots via casting ($6mm\;ength{\times}1mm\;width{\times}1mm\;thick$). The metal beams were randomly divided into ten groups according to the adhesive primers and resin cements used; the no-primer groups served as the control (n = 15). After sandblasting with aluminum oxide ($125{\mu}m$ grain), the metal and resin cements were bonded together using a silicone mold. Prior to testing, all metal-resin beams were examined under stereomicroscope, and subjected to the ${\mu}TBS$ test. The mean value of each group was analyzed via one-way ANOVA with Tukey's test as post hoc (${\alpha}=.05$) using SPSS software. Results: The mean ${\mu}TBS$ of all groups was ranged from 20 to 28 MPa. There is no statistically significant difference between groups (P > .05). Mixed failure, which is the combination of adhesive and cohesive failures, is the most prevalent failure mode in both the Panavia F2.0 and G-Cem LinkAce groups. Conclusion: The ${\mu}TBS$ of all tested groups are relatively high; however, the primers used in this study result in no favorable effect in the ${\mu}TBS$ of Panavia F2.0 and G-Cem LinkAce resin cement to Co-Cr alloy.
PURPOSE. This study aimed to present the clinical applicability of restorations fabricated by a new method, by comparing the bond strength of between ceramic powder with different coefficient of thermal expansion and alloys fabricated by Selective laser sintering (SLS). MATERIALS AND METHODS. Fifty Co-Cr alloy specimens ($25.0{\times}3.0{\times}0.5mm$) were prepared by SLS and fired with the ceramic ($8.0{\times}3.0{\times}0.5mm$) (ISO 9693:1999). For comparison, ceramics with different coefficient of thermal expansion were used. The bond strength was measured by three-point bending testing and surfaces were observed with FE-SEM. Results were analyzed with a one-way ANOVA (${\alpha}$=.05). RESULTS. The mean values of Duceram Kiss ($61.18{\pm}6.86MPa$), Vita VM13 ($60.30{\pm}7.14MPa$), Ceramco 3 ($58.87{\pm}5.33MPa$), Noritake EX-3 ($55.86{\pm}7.53MPa$), and Vintage MP ($55.15{\pm}7.53MPa$) were found. No significant difference was observed between the bond strengths of the various metal-ceramics. The surfaces of the specimens possessed minute gaps between the additive manufactured layers. CONCLUSION. All the five powders have bond strengths higher than the required 25 MPa minimum (ISO 9693); therefore, various powders can be applied to metal structures fabricated by SLS.
Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the stress distribution and deformation in implant abutments made from titanium (Ti-6Al-4V), zirconia, and polyetheretherketone (PEEK), including their screws and fixtures, under various loading conditions using finite element analysis (FEA). Methods: Three-dimensional models of the mandible with implant abutments were created using Siemens NX software (NX10.0.0.24, Siemens). FEA was conducted using Abaqus to simulate occlusal loads and assess stress distribution and deformation. Material properties such as Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio were assigned to each component based on literature and experimental data. Results: The FEA results revealed distinct stress distribution patterns among the materials. Titanium alloy abutments exhibited the highest stress resistance and the most uniform stress distribution, making them highly suitable for long-term stability. Zirconia abutments showed strong mechanical properties with higher stress concentration, indicating potential vulnerability to fracture despite their aesthetic advantages. PEEK abutments demonstrated the least stress resistance and higher deformation compared to other abutment materials, but offered superior shock absorption, though they posed a higher risk of mechanical failure under high load conditions. Conclusion: The study emphasizes the importance of selecting appropriate materials for dental implants. Titanium offers durability and uniform stress distribution, making it highly suitable for long-term stability. Zirconia provides aesthetic benefits but has a higher risk of fracture compared to titanium. PEEK excels in shock absorption but has a higher risk of mechanical failure compared to both titanium and zirconia. These insights can guide improved implant designs and material choices for various clinical needs.

The most important aspect determining the completeness of aprosthesis is itsmarginal and internal fit. Alloysare processed using a softening/hardening heat treatment methodin order to improve their mechanical, physical properties and polishing properties. To examinehow the heat treatment method affects the marginal and internal fit of the Ni-Cr alloy core, thirty dental stone models of the abutment of the mandibular left molar were manufactured. The Ni-Cr alloy coreswere manufactured by the dipping method for the experiment and dividedinto three groups; A for no heat treatment, B for softening heat treatment and C for hardening heat treatment. The marginal and internal fitsof all of the groups were measured by the silicone replica technique. A statistical analysis was performed using one-way ANOVA(${\alpha}=0.05$) in order to examine whether there is a significant difference in the average values of the marginal and internal fits among the three groups and it was found that themarginal fits (1, 6) were significantly different (p<0.05), but the internal fits (2, 3, 4, 5) were not significantly different (p>0.05). These results show that Ni-Cr alloys should not be processed bythe heat treatmentmethod. However, they need to be confirmed in further clinical application studies.

Commercially pure titanium (CP-Ti) and Ti-6Al-4V alloys have been widely used in implant materials such as dental and orthopedic implants due to their corrosion resistance, biocompatibility, and good mechanical properties. However, surface modification of titanium and titanium alloys is necessary to improve osseointegration between implant surface and bone. Especially, when titanium oxide nanotubes are formed on the surface of titanium alloy, cell adhesion is greatly improved. In addition, plasma electrolytic oxide (PEO) coatings have a good safety for osseointegration and can easily and quickly form coatings of uniform thickness with various pore sizes. Recently, the effects of bone element such as magnesium, zinc, strontium, silicon, and manganese for bone regeneration are researching in dental implant field. The purpose of this study was researched on the surface morphology of PEO-treated Ti-6Al-4V alloy after anodic titanium oxide treatmentusing various instruments. Ti-6Al-4V ELI disks were used as specimens for nanotube formation and PEO-treatment. The solution for the nanotube formation experiment was 1 M $H_3PO_4$ + 0.8 wt. % NaF electrolyte was used. The applied potential was 30V for 1 hours. The PEO treatment was performed after removing the nanotubes by ultrasonics for 10 minutes. The PEO treatment after removal of the nanotubes was carried out in the $Ca(CH_3)_2{\cdot}H_2O+(CH_3COO)_2Mg{\cdot}4H_2O+Mn(CH_3COO)_2{\cdot}4H_2O+Zn(CH_3CO_2)_2Zn{\cdot}2H_2O+Sr(CH_2COO)_2{\cdot}0.5H_2O+C_3H_7CaO_6P$ and $Na_2SiO_3{\cdot}9H_2O$ electrolytes. And the PEO-treatment time and potential were 3 minutes at 280V. The morphology changes of the coatings on Ti-6Al-4V alloy surface were observed using FE-SEM, EDS, XRD, AFM, and scratch tester. The morphology of PEO-treated surface in 5 ion coating solution after nanotube removal showed formation or nano-sized mesh and micro-sized pores.
The purpose of this study was to achieve the reduction of the galvanic current between the dental amalgam alloy and gold alloy. In order to measure the galvanic current between these two metals a prep in the size of $4{\times}13mm$ which was filled with amalgam and another prep of $4{\times}2mm$ was filled with gold alloy was made in the acrylic resin. These two preps were then connected to a 2mm diameter copper wire. Using an ammeter to measure the galvanic current, six different kinds of amalgam and gold alloy were immersed in saline solution with approximately 10mm distance between the two alloys. Chemical agents that are thought to reduce the galvanic current such as hydrazine. silver nitrate, potassium chromate, and bonding agents such as Scotch bond 2(3M) and All bond 2(Bisco) were applied to the alloy surface. Cathodic inhibitor such as hydrazine was applied to gold alloy where as anodic inhibitor such as silver nitrate and potassium chromate were applied to amalgam. Both bonding agents, Scotch bond 2(3M) and All bond 2 (Bisco), were applied to amalgam. The following results were obtained when the currency on the coated alloy surface was compared to the uncoated surface. 1. The galvanic currency went down as the time elapsed and after 30 minutes no change was detected. 2. Initial currency was higher in low copper amalgam compared to high copper amalgam. Intitial currency was the highest in low copper lathe-cut amalgam. 3. Group of gold coated with hydrazine had the most reduction in galvanic currency. 4. Group of amalgam coated with silver nitrate or potassium chromate also showed significant reduction in galvanic currency. 5. The bonding agents also helped reduce galvanic currency. 6. Of all the agents used to reduce galvanic currency, silver nitrate showed the best result.
The use of titanium alloys as biomaterials is increasing due to their superior biocompatibility and enhanced corrosion resistance compared to conventional stainless steels and cobalt-based alloys. Ti-6Al-4V ($\alpha+\beta$type) alloy instead of pure titanium ($\alpha$type) is being widely used as biomaterials has some characteristics such as high fatigue strength, tensile strength and corrosion resistance. But it has been reported recently that the vanadium element expresses cytotoxicity and the aluminium element is related with dementia of Alzheimer type and neurotoxicity. In order to overcome their detrimental effects, $\beta$-phase stabilizer Nb was chosen in the present study. This paper was described the influence of phase changes of Ti-Nb alloys on mechanical properties. Ti-3wt.%Nb($\alpha$type),Ti-20wt.%Nb($\alpha+\beta$type) and Ti-40wt.%Nb($\beta$type) alloys were melted by vacuum arc furnace. The specimens were homogenized at 1050$^{\circ}C$ for 24hr and were then hot rolled to 50% reduction. Each alloys were solution heat treated at $\beta$ zone and $\alpha+\beta$ zone after homogenization and then were aged. The mechanical properties of Ti alloys were analysed by hardness test, tensile test, elongation test and SEM test. The results can be summarized as follows: 1) The higher hardness value of $\alpha+\beta$type alloy was obtained compared to the, $\alpha,\beta$type alloys. 2) The aged treated showed better hardness compared to the solution heat treated, homogenized. 3) In the case of solution and aging treatment at $\beta$region, the $\alpha+\beta$type alloy showed the most highest tensile strength and $\beta$type alloy showed the best elongation.

PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of repeated porcelain firing process on the corrosion rates of the dental alloys. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Cr-Co, Cr-Ni and Pd-Ag alloys were used for this study. Each metal supported porcelain consisted of 30 specimens of 10 for 7, 9 and 11 firing each. Disc-shaped specimens 10 mm diameter and 3 mm thickness were formed by melting alloys with a propane-oxygen flame and casted with a centrifuge casting machine and then with the porcelain veneer fired onto the metal alloys. Corrosion tests were performed in quintuplicate for each alloy (after repeated porcelain firing) in Fusayama artificial saliva solution (pH = 5) in a low thermal-expansion borosilicate glass cell. Tamhane and Sheffe test was used to compare corrosion differences in the results after repeated firings and among 7, 9 and 11 firing for each alloy. The probability level for statistical significance was set at ${\alpha}$=0.05. RESULTS. The corrosion resistance was higher (30 mV), in case of 7 times firing (Commercial). On the other hand, it was lower in case of 11 times firing (5 mV) (P<.05). Conclusion. Repeated firings decreased corrosion resistance of Pd-Ag, Cr-Co and Cr-Ni alloys. The Pd-Ag alloy exhibited little corrosion in in vitro tests. The Cr-Ni alloy exhibited higher corrosion resistance than Cr-Co alloys in in vitro tests.
