  • The approximation of the radial distribution functions(RDF) of mixture plays an important role in deriving the mixing rules for the corresponding states principle(CSP). The mean density approximation(MDA), one of the most successful approximations, fails to predict the radial distribution functions when the size ratio in terms of the Lennard-Jones size parameters is greater than 1.5. To get a better prediction of important structural integrals over the radial distribution functions that arise in the asymmetrical attraction contribution of the perturbaton theory, the new type of mean density approximation(NTMDA) is proposed. With this NTMDA, quite reliable results for those integrals for systems with comparatively large ratio of the size parameters are obtained.

  • This study was carried out to evaluate effect of sludge characteristics (pH, SVI, anaerobic storage, wet density and growth phase) on the sedimentation of bulking sludge of paper manufacturing plant. The results showed that mix hulking sludge with sewage sludge (10-60%) caused the decrease of SVI, the settled sludge concentration was increased. Increase of anaerobic storage time (0 to 8 day) was increased SVI, sedimentation performance was deteriorated. The sedimentation was improved by addition of loess (0.2-5.0 g/L), because wet density of sludge was increased and SVI was decreased. At an exponential phase, the ratio of sedimented/growthed sludge concentration was decreased, the ratio was increased after stationary phase.

  • A fluidized bed drying approach was utilized to the synthesis of water glass based silica aerogel powders. The effects of the fluidized bed drying conditions such as the superficial velocity and temperature of hot air and bead size as well as bead/wet-gel ratio, on the physical properties such as tapping density and productivity of the aerogel powders were systematically investigated. The experimental results showed that the amount of beads mixed with wet-gels in the fluidized bed column has the most profound impact on the fluidization efficiency, greatly enhancing the yield of the aerogel powders up to 98% with a proper bead/wet-gel weight ratio as compared to 72% without using beads. No significant change was observed in the tapping density over a wide range of the fluidized drying condition. Consequently the fluidized bed drying approach shows a good promise as an alternative route for the large-scale production of the aerogel powders.

  • The electron transport coefficients in not only pure atoms and molecules but also in the binary gas mixtures are necessary, especially on understanding quantitatively plasma phenomena and ionized gases. Electron transport coefficients (electron drift velocity, density-normalized longitudinal diffusion coefficient, and density-normalized effective ionization coefficient) in binary mixtures of TEOS gas with buffer gases such as Kr, Xe, He, and Ne gases, therefore, was analyzed and calculated by a two-term approximation of the Boltzmann equation in the E/N range (ratio of the electric field E to the neutral number density N) of 0.1 - 1000 Td (1 Td = 10−17 V.cm2). These binary gas mixtures can be considered to use as the silicon sources in many industrial applications depending on mixture ratio and particular application of gas, especially on plasma assisted thin-film deposition.

  • We measured the dielectric properties with YMnO$_3$ ceramics using solution method based procedure via by citrate. The crystalline phases were determined using XRD. Also we observed morphologies of YMnO$_3$ ceramics using SEM. We proved the structure of YMnO$_3$ ceramics which is hexagonal. But lots of pores were observed the microstructure. It would be considered as volatile organic. The maximum density of YMnO$_3$ ceramics is obtained sintering temperature 135$0^{\circ}C$ and the ratio 0.95/1.05 of Y/Mn. But even though the density we obtained is the highest, that is lower than theoretical density because of remaining organics by citric acid. Dielectric constant and dissipation factor were improved as increasing sintering temperature and the Y/Mn ratio (0.95/1.05)

  • Single pellet press technology allows for fast, low-cost, and small-scale tests to investigate pelletizing characteristics. We estimated proper compression ratios for five Korean domestic wood species through predicted relationships between pelletizing pressure Px and compression ratio based on experimental data obtained from a single pellet press unit. The pressures required to obtain a 6-mm-diam pellet of density 1200 kg/㎥ were estimated as 111 MPa for Populus davidiana, 133 MPa for Robinia pseudoacacia, 136 MPa for Quercus mongolica, 97 MPa for Pinus densiflora, and 127 MPa for Pinus rigida. On the basis of these pressures, we estimated proper compression ratios to be within the range 7.676-8.410 for these species, and we found the compression ratios needed for hardwood species to be somewhat higher than those needed for softwood species to obtain the pellet density of 1200 kg/㎥.

  • AlGaAs/GaAs Heterojunotion Bipolar Transistors (HBTs) with various emitter areas were fabricated and the device size dependence on the current gain was examined. With the different emitter areas, the passivated devices having the same peripheral length were fabricated and measured. The measured base current density in the Gummel plots shows an ideality factor of nearly 2. It is found that as the emitter area becomes small, the base current density with the ideality factor of 2 increases linearly, and as the emitter perimeter/area ratio becomes large, the surface recombination current density component increases. The current gain performance in AlGaAs/GaAs HBTs is mainly determined by either the larger emitter area or the smaller ratio of the emitter perimeter to the emitter area. These results will be compared with experimental works for GaInP/GaAs HBTs

  • Recently, solar energy generation is one of the fastest growing industries for eco-friendly energy. Every year, solar energy generation industry grows to 42% on average. However, polysilicon sludge is generated from processing of polysilicon but, there is nothing to handle that. Therefore, we need research to recycle polysilicon sludge. Also, improved fire resistance efficiency of wall is required according to reinforced fire safety standards due to many cases of big fires in our country. This study focuses on density and strength properties according to the addition ratio of paper Ash for the lightweight composite panel core with polysilicon sludge. As a result of the test, adding paper ash 9% has the best density and strength properties.

  • A performance sensitivity of liquid rocket engine to propellant density or supply pressure change was studied. The analysis program was verified to have 1% error comparing with the measured data of a turbopump-gas generator system. The engine combustion pressure decreases as fuel supply pressure increases due to decreased mixture ratio which reduces the turbine power. The engine combustion pressure increases as fuel density increases because the total propellant flow rate is increased substantially even though mixture ratio is slightly decreased. The engine combustion pressure increases when the oxidizer density or supply pressure increases.
