In this study, seismic refraction survey and MASW at dam crest and down-hole test and cross hole test in the boring holes located in dam crest through the core are performed to fin out dynamic material properties, are needed to evaluate dynamic safety of rockfill dam using dynamic analysis method. From the field test and geophysical exploration, applied such as above, p-wave and s-wave velocity profile of each layer of dam body. Dynamic material properties, such as elastic modulus, shear modulus, poissong's ration, are obtained from p-wave and s-wave velocity profile and density profile from formation density logging test.
The accurate determination of formation density and the physical properties of rocks is the most critical logging tasks which can be obtained using gamma-ray transport and detection tools. Though the simulation works published so far have considerably improved the knowledge of the parameters that govern the responses of the detectors in these tools, recent studies have found considerable differences between the results of using a conventional model of a homogeneous mixture of formation and fluid and an inhomogeneous fractured medium. It has increased concerns about the importance of the complexity of the model used for the medium in simulation works. In the present study, we have suggested two various models for the flow of the fluid in porous media and fractured rock to be used for logging purposes. For a typical gamma-gamma logging tool containing a 137Cs source and two NaI detectors, simulated by using the MCNPX code, a simplified porous (SP) model in which the formation is filled with elongated rectangular cubes loaded with either mineral material or oil was investigated. In this model, the oil directly reaches the top of the medium and the connection between the pores is not guaranteed. In the other model, the medium is a large 3-D matrix of 1 cm3 randomly filled cubes. The designed algorithm to fill the matrix sites is so that this realistic random (RR) model provides the continuum growth of oil flow in various disordered directions and, therefore, fulfills the concerns about modeling the rock textures consist of extremely complex pore structures. For an arbitrary set of oil concentrations and various formation materials, the response of the detectors in the logging tool has been considered as a criterion to assess the effect of modeling for the distribution of pores in the formation on simulation studies. The results show that defining a RR model for describing heterogeneities of a porous medium does not effectively improve the prediction of the responses of logging tools. Taking into account the computational cost of the particle transport in the complex geometries in the Monte Carlo method, the SP model can be satisfactory for gamma-gamma logging purposes.
The gamma-gamma logging method appplying in geophysical research are presented in this paper_ The logging probe assembly was designed which permits changing the source-to-detector spacing while conditions of proceeding ${\gamma}-{\gamma}$ logging, which a collimated gamma ray source ($^{60}Co$, 0.5mCi and/or 2 mCi) is separated from the scintillation detector as shown in Fig. 2 and 3, size is 6.0 cm in diameter and 120.0 cm in long and the exposed parts are made of stainless steel pipe. The results is confirmed by the experiment performed mainly in granite rock where a slightly constant shape was obtained but sometimes was shown sharpness shape for the measured scattered gamma-ray intensity. Consequently, the experimental results are obtained an adequate intensity of scattered gamma-rays and favourable response to density change, and also very closely correspond to between core samples of the test boring and to used this method of ${\gamma}-{\gamma}$ logging in the test bore-hole of the strata.
We performed MCNP modeling for density log, and examined its reliability and validity comparing the correction curves from physical borehole model. Based on the constructed numerical model, numerical modelings of density sonde in three-inch borehole were carried out under the various conditions such as the existence and type of casing or fluid, and also the stand-off between the sonde and borehole wall. These results of numerical modeling quantitatively reflect effects of casing and fluid in borehole, and moreover, demonstrate constant patterns with interval change from borehole wall. From this study, numerical modeling using MCNP shows a good applicability for well logging, and therefore, can be efficiently used for the calibration of well logging data under the various borehole conditions.
Geophysical well logging techniques which are useful for delineating permeability of geological formation have been reviewed. A new technique for obtaining permeability using conductivity log technique has been discussed. This conductivity logging technique has been tested by monitoring the conductivity change within the model hole using borehole environment water and incoming-outgoing water of different salinity with constant flow rate by maintaining balance between inflow and outflow. Conductivity variation features depended mainly on flow rate, density contrasts due to salinity and temperature contrasts between fluid within the hole and incoming-outgoing fluid. The results of the experiment show uniform change of fluid conductivity within bore hole with time, and a fairly good correlation between the flow rate and the conductivity change rate. This conductivity logging technique is expected to be an efficient tool for determining permeability.
The purpose of this study is to analyze a correlation between lithology, rock physical property and fracture zone by multiple-logging method, which includes optic borehole image, suspension type PS, resistivity, SP, natural gamma, density, caliper logging located in Ogar test area, Changsu, Pocheon-gun, Gyunggi Province. The outstanding geophysical logging responses particularly shown from lithology pattern, fracture zone, dike zone. in result, the depth of fracture zone which enable groundwater flow estimated at $67{\sim}69m$.
Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) logging has been considered one of the most complicated nevertheless, one of the most powerful logging methods for the characterization on of both rocks and natural fluids in formation. NMR measures magnetized signals (polarization and relaxation) between the properties of hydrogen nucleus called magnetic moment and applied magnetic fields. The measured data set contains two important petrophysical properties such as density of hydrogen in the fluids inside the pore space and the distinct decay rate for fluid type. Therefore, after the proper data processing, key petrophysical information, not only the quantities and properties of fluids but also supplies of rock characterization in a porous medium, could be archived. Thus, based on this information, several ongoing researches are being developed in estimating aspects of reservoir productivity information, permeability and wettability since it is the key to having correct interpretation. This study goes through the basic theory of NMR at first, and then reviews NMR logging tools as well as their technical characteristics. This paper also briefly discusses the basic knowledge of NMR simulation algorithm by using Random walk.

Subsurface rock produces heat from the decay of radioactive isotopes in constituent minerals and gamma-ray emissions, of which the magnitude is dominated by the contents of the major radioactive isotopes (e.g., U, Th, and K). The heat production is generally calculated from the rock density and contents of major isotopes, which can be determined by mass spectrometry of drilled core samples or rock fragments. However, such methods are not easily applicable to deep boreholes because core samples recovered from depths of several hundred meters to a few kilometers are rarely available. A geophysical logging technique for boreholes is available where the U, Th, and K contents are measured from the gamma-ray spectrum. However, this technique requires the density to be measured separately, and the measurement depth of the equipment is still limited. As an alternative method, a normal gamma-ray logging tool was adopted to estimate the heat production from the total gamma activity, which is relatively easy to measure. This technical report introduces the development of the proposed method for evaluating the heat production of a granitic rock mass with domestic commercial borehole logging tools, as well as its application to a ~2 km deep borehole for verification.

The flow of groundwater in fractured medium is related to the geometric characteristics of the fracture system. And a fracture aperture and a fracture density are considered as important factor concerning the permeability. Data acquisition of the properties of fracture such as aperture and density is so difficult and has uncertainty. We also cannot know the fracture characteristics through the in-situ tests. We usually obtain the fracture information from a ultrasonic scan logging or borehole television indirectly. Using the deduced results, we can make the fracture system and simulate the groundwater flow and solute transport in the crystalline rock. This study aimed to analyze the correlation between the properties of fracture and hydraulic conductivities obtained at the same interval. The properties of fracture are examined by acoustic televiwer and hydraulic conductivities are obtained by constant Pressure injection test. The distributioin of fracture width and fracture frequency shows the log-normal probability plot. And, Results of correlation analysis explain that opened type fractures have proper relation with hydraulic conductivity. But, as though there are semi-opened type fractures or closed type fractures, those have the permeable structure.
This study area located in HoNam High-Speed railway soft ground section. So it carried out the boring survey, field survey and test of laboratory. It collected the engineering data of ground and the data for the establishment arrangement. The investigation did a soil investigation in Nonsan. The investigation item excuted seismic piezocone penetration test, s-wave seismic refraction survey, ps logging test, density logging test which is a physical exploration and boring. Eventually, results of geotechnical and shear-wave survey are useful for ground information in soft ground that has identified the characteristics of geological responses and elastic modulus.
