청소년의 치매에 대한 지식과 태도 (A Study on Dementia-related Knowledge and Attitudes in Adolescents)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine adolescents' knowledge and attitudes towards dementia and to provide basic data for educating about knowledge of dementia and strengthening positive attitudes towards dementia. Methods: This study used a descriptive research design. The subjects were 502 middle and high school students. A questionnaire organized by 16 questions of knowledge and 10 questions of attitudes towards dementia was used. Results: The subjects' knowledge level of dementia was low, and average score was $8.89{\pm}2.95$. The questions with low rate of correct answer were "Dementia is caused by several dozens of diseases such as internal medicine, neurology, psychiatry, etc.", "In spite of the dementia, patients can enjoy their favorite things." The subjects' average score of attitudes towards dementia was $3.72{\pm}0.58$. Questions of negative attitudes were "I don't want to be closed to patients of dementia.", "I watch information or prevention about dementia in mass communications media." The relationship between dementia-related knowledge and attitudes showed positive correlation. Conclusion: The result means the mediation is necessary for improving dementia-related knowledge and strengthening positive attitudes in adolescents. The education programs should be proceeded to provide adolescents with correct information about dementia.

보건계열 대학생의 치매 정책 인식과 치매 지식 및 태도에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Dementia Policy Awareness and Dementia Knowledge and Attitudes of Health College Students)

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate health college students' awareness and knowledge of the dementia policy and their attitudes toward dementia. Methods : In this study, 294 questionnaires were collected from 301 college students in the Department of Health of K College in Busan from November 7 to 29, 2022. The questionnaire consisted of 59 items, including 9 items on general characteristics, 10 on awareness of the dementia policy, 15 on attitudes toward dementia, and 25 on knowledge about dementia. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t test, and one-way analysis of variance with SPSS version 25. A post-analysis was performed using the Scheffe test. Dementia policy awareness, knowledge of dementia, and attitude toward dementia were analyzed with the Pearson correlation coefficient by factor. Results : The health students' dementia policy awareness and knowledge of dementia were high, and their attitudes toward dementia were positive. High knowledge of dementia was influenced by sex, interest in dementia, presence of dementia information, and related volunteer work experience. Positive attitudes toward dementia were related to sex, department, and mode of receiving dementia information. High dementia policy perceptions were associated with interest in dementia and the presence or absence of information on dementia. Positive correlations were found between dementia policy perception and knowledge and attitude toward dementia. Conclusion : According to our study, interest in dementia is increasing owing to the recent dementia safety system. As a result, the dementia policy awareness and knowledge of dementia among college students pursuing health studies were high, and their attitude toward dementia was positive. From these results, we can infer that systematic and continuous education on dementia should be conducted in universities.

치매노인 가족 지지프로그램이 치매가족의 임파워먼트와 치매태도에 미치는 효과 (The Effects of a Support Program for Family Caregivers of Elderly with Dementia on Empowerment and Attitudes toward Dementia)

  • Purpose: This research was conducted to identify the effects of providing support programs to families of elderly with dementia on family empowerment and attitudes toward dementia. Methods: A nonequivalent control group pre- and post-test design was used. Participants were 49 family caregivers, experimental (24) and control (25), recruited from families through a dementia support center in Y district. This program implemented Haearim, a support program for family caregivers of demented elders developed by the National Institute of Dementia in 2016. Outcome measures were empowerment and attitudes toward to dementia. Data were analyzed with a ${\chi}^2-test$, independent t-test, Fisher's exact probability test, paired t-test, and repeated measures ANOVA with SPSS/PC version 20.0. Results: Family empowerment (F=6.84, p=.002) and family caregivers' attitudes (F=16.48, p<.001) toward dementia in the experimental group improved significantly more than that of the control group after intervention. Conclusion: Results indicate that support programs for families of elderly with dementia are effective in positively changing empowerment and attitudes toward dementia among family caregivers.

간호학사 과정 3학년 학생들의 노인과 치매노인에 대한 태도 (Attitudes Toward General Elders and Elders with Dementia Among Baccalaureate Junior Nursing Students)

  • Purpose: This study investigated attitudes toward general elders and elders with dementia among nursing students before beginning the clinical practicum. In addition, students' characteristics differentiating the attitudes were examined. Methods: Attitudes were measured with questionnaires developed for Asian culture at the beginning week of the first semester of the junior year in two baccalaureate programs. Responses from 120 out of 121 students were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficient, paired t-test, ANOVA, and Scheffe test. Results: Students held negative attitudes toward both types of elders except for generosity dimension toward general elders showing a neutral attitude. Elders with dementia were evaluated more negatively than general elders in all the dimensions of vitality, generosity and flexibility. Vitality and generosity toward general elders were different according to intimacy and the degree of communication with elders. Generosity toward general elders was also different according to students' religious beliefs. Students with interest in elders/issues showed more negative attitudes of vitality and flexibility toward elders with dementia. Conclusions: Students in general had negative attitudes toward elders and more negative attitudes toward elders with dementia. We need to put more efforts into the entire nursing curriculum in order to improve attitudes toward elders with particular concern over attitudes toward elders with dementia.

치매전문요양보호사의 치매 지식, 공감 및 치매에 대한 태도 (A Study of Knowledge about Dementia, Empathy and Attitudes toward Dementia in Caregivers of Older Adults with Dementia)

  • 본 연구는 치매전문요양보호사의 치매에 대한 태도에 영향을 미치는 요인을 확인하여 치매돌봄서비스 질을 향상시킬 수 있는 근거자료를 마련하기 위한 서술적 조사연구이다. G시와 J도에 소재한 요양센터에 근무하는 치매전문요양보호사 147명을 대상으로 하였으며, 구조화된 설문지로 설문을 수집하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS Win 21.0을 이용하여, 기술통계, Pearson correlation coefficient, Multiple linear regression 등의 방법으로 분석하였다. 연구결과 치매지식 점수는 30점 만점에 평균 $20.18{\pm}3.58$점, 공감은 105점 만점에 평균 $83.12{\pm}9.68$점, 치매에 대한 태도는 140점 만점에 평균 $96.45{\pm}13.72$점이었다. 치매에 대한 태도는 연령, 직업동기에서 유의한 차이를 나타내었으며, 지식 및 공감과 모두 양의 상관관계가 있었다. 태도에 영향을 미치는 주요변인은 공감으로 설명력은 28.6%였다. 연구결과를 토대로 요양보호사의 연령, 동기, 공감에 따른 치매전문교육프로그램을 실시할 것을 제언한다.

대학생의 치매교육에 따른 치매태도가 치매정책인식에 미치는 영향 - 치매지식 매개효과 중심으로 - (Effect of Dementia Attitudes according to Dementia Education in University Students on the Recognition of Dementia Policy - Mediating effect of dementia knowledge -)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 대학생의 치매교육에 따른 치매태도가 치매정책인식에 미치는 영향을 치매지식 매개효과 중심으로 파악하였다. 대상자는 2개의 G 시에 소재한 U와 K 대학교 1~2학년 대학생, 306명이었다. 자료수집은 2017년 9월 4일부터 9월 29일까지였고, SPSS / WIN 21.0 프로그램을 사용하여 t-test, Pearson 상관계수 및 다중단계 회귀분석을 하였다. 대상자의 치매교육 여부에 따른 치매정책인식, 치매지식과 치매태도에서 모두 교육집단이 비교육집단에 비해 유의한 차이가 있었다. 치매정책인식, 치매지식과 치매태도 정도는 보통 이상이었고, 치매정책인식, 치매지식과 치매태도 모두 정상관관계가 있었다. 치매지식은 치매정책인식의 예측요인(t=2.35, p=019)이면서 유의미한 부분매개효과를 나타냈고, 설명력은 17.8 %였다. 따라서 올바른 치매지식과 긍정적인 치매태도 및 치매정책인식을 높이기 위한 전 국민 대상 치매교육프로그램 개발과 적용을 지속적이고 체계적으로 제공해야 할 필요가 있다.

간호대학생의 치매정책인식과 치매태도에 미치는 영향요인 (Factors Influencing Dementia Attitude and Recognition of Dementia Policy of Nursing Students)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 간호대학생의 치매정책인식과 치매태도에 영향을 미치는 요인을 파악하는 것이다. 대상자는 G도시 K 대학 간호 학생 1~2학년, 184명이었다. 자료수집은 2017 년 5 월 1 일부터 5 월 31 일까지였고, SPSS / WIN 21.0 프로그램을 사용하여 one-way ANOVA, t-test, Pearson 상관계수 및 다중단계 회귀분석을 하였다. 대상자의 일반적 특성에 따른 치매태도는 치매에 대한 관심과 치매병동 근무의향에 따라 차이가 있었다. 치매정책인식, 치매지식, 노인태도와 치매태도 정도는 보통 이상이었고, 치매정책인식, 치매지식, 노인태도 및 치매 태도에서는 모두 정상관관계가 있었다. 치매태도에 영향을 미치는 영향요인은 치매정책인식(β = .22, p = .004), 치매에 관심없다(β = -.20, p = .006), 치매병동 근무 의향 없다(β = -.16, p = .021), 치매지식(β = .15, p = .027)이었고, 설명력은 23.4 %였다. 따라서 올바른 치매지식, 긍정적인 치매태도, 간호대학생의 치매정책인식을 높일 수 있는 체계적인 치매 교육 프로그램을 개발해야 한다.

간호대학생의 치매에 대한 주관적 태도: Q 방법론적 연구 (A Q-methodology Study on Subjective Attitudes toward Dementia in Nursing Students)

  • Purpose: Nursing students are key personnel to take care of people with dementia in the nursing field in future. The purpose of this study was to identify subjective attitudes toward dementia in nursing students. Methods: Q methodology, which is a research method to study people's subjective points of views, was used. Thirty seven Q-statements (Q-sample) were derived from the Q population (Concourse) and were arranged in rank order by each of 42 participants into a normal distribution grid (from -4 to +4). A QUANL program was used to analyze the collected data. Results: Three types of attitudes toward dementia were identified: 'self-guided dementia management', 'national-guided dementia management' and 'facility-guided dementia management.' Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that nursing strategies to improve understanding of dementia and actively cope with dementia should be considered.

Effects of Gerontological Nursing Practicum on Attitudes toward Elders with Dementia and General Elders among Korean Nursing Students

  • Purpose. This study investigated changes in attitudes toward elders in general and elders with dementia after students finished a gerontological nursing practicum. Methods. Questionnaires developed for Asian cultures were administered pre practicum, immediately post practicum, and at 8-months follow up to 31 senior students in a baccalaureate nursing program. The 1-week practicum occurred at two adult day care centers: a center for elders with dementia and a center for elders with stroke. Repeated measures ANOVA and Bonferroni correction procedures were used to analyze data. Results. Students' evaluation of elder vitality and flexibility increased significantly at post practicum, however this increase was not sustained at follow up. Score of generosity of elders, the only positively evaluated dimension for elders in general, improved partly at post practicum. Students evaluated flexibility and generosity of elders with dementia more negatively than general elders. All of the decreased attitudes at follow up were not significantly different from those at pre practicum. Conclusions. Students had more negative attitudes toward elders with dementia. Attitudes of students in direct contact with elders with dementia were improved through the practicum regarding generosity and flexibility. However the sustainability of the immediate effect was not observed at follow up.

The relationship between dementia-related knowledge and attitude in people in their 20s and 60s

  • This study is a cross-sectional survey study aimed at collecting basic data for the development of a program to cultivate a positive attitude toward dementia among people caring for dementia patients. For this study, data were collected from March 1 to March 7, 2022 as a structured questionnaire, and 232 study participants were in their 20s to 60s. The collected data were derived from chi-square test, t-test, and simple regression analysis using the spss 18.0 program. As a result of the analysis, women had higher treatment knowledge for dementia than men, men had higher attitudes toward dementia than women (p<0.01), and people living with dementia patients had higher attitudes than those who gave birth (p<0.01). Attitudes toward dementia were more positive in the family than those with dementia patients (p<0.01). Dementia-related knowledge consists of disease knowledge, treatment knowledge, and nursing knowledge, of which only positive dementia attitude affects dementia treatment knowledge (t=5.29, p<0.01). Based on these results, it is suggested that the provision of accurate knowledge about dementia treatment should be planned first as a nursing program for dementia patients.
