  • In this paper, the proper rebate level can be decided in programs of energy savings by solving an optimization problem with an objective function, which satisfies a maximum value of total energy savings. And then, each prevalence amount is estimated by using virtual Bass model which is a function of rebate level, instead of the conventional Bass model. Finally, by cost/benefit analysis of the estimated prevalence amounts, the priority order is obtained for the investment of each program. The priority order obtained in this way may result the improvement of investment efficiency for DSM(Demand-Side Management) programs and the reasonable plan decision for supply and demand in power system.

  • This paper attempts to estimate the electricity demand function in Korea with quarterly data of average temperature, GDP and electricity price over the period 2005-2013. We apply lagged dependent variable model and ordinary least square method as a robust approach to estimating the parameters of the electricity demand function. The results show that short-run price and income elasticities of the electricity demand are estimated to be -0.569 and 0.631, respectively. They are statistically significant at the 1% level. Moreover, long-run income and price elasticities are estimated to be 1.589 and -1.433, respectively Both of results reveal that the demand for electricity is price- and income-elastic in the long-run. The relationship between electricity consumption and temperature is supported by many of references as a U-shaped relationship, and the base temperature of electricity demand is about $15.2^{\circ}C$. It is shown that power of explanation and goodness-of-fit statistics are improved in the use of the lagged dependent variable model rather than conventional model.

  • Virtual power plants can be regarded as systems that have entered the network after restructure of power systems. In fact, these plants are a set of consumers capable of consuming and generating power. In response to widespread implementation of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, further investigation of energy management in this type of power plants seems to be of great value. In effect, these vehicles are able to receive and inject power from/into the network. Hence, study of the effects of these vehicles on management of virtual power plants seems to be illuminative. In this paper, management of power consumption/generation in virtual power plants has been investigated in the presence of hybrid electric vehicles. The objective function of virtual power plants problem management is to minimize the overall costs including not only the costs of energy production in power generation units, fuels, and degradation of batteries of vehicles, but also the costs of purchasing electricity from the network. Furthermore, the constraints on the operational of plants, loads and hybrid vehicles, level of penalty for greenhouse gas emissions ($CO_2$ and $NO_x$) produced by power plants and vehicles, and demand response to the immediate price of market have all been attended to in the present study. GAMS/Cplex software system and sample power system have been employed to pursue computer implementation and simulation.

  • As one of the main trends in global industries is eco-friendly energy, the interest on Electric Vehicle(EV) has been increased. However, if large amount of EVs start to charging, it could cause rapid increase in demand power of the power system. To guarantee stable operation of the power system, those unpredictable power consume should be mitigated. In this paper, therefore, we propose a practical smart EVs charging scheme to prevent the rapid increase of the demand power and also provide load flattening function. For that we considered Time-of-Use(ToU) price and actual data such as driving pattern and parameters of distribution system. Simulation results show that the proposed method provides proper load flattening function while preventing the rapid increase of the demand power of the power system.

  • Entering in the time of high oil price, seriousness of an energy effect sector has given a huge impact and the importance of energy is growing. Especially, building energy occupying 24% of total demand of energy is expected to be possible to reduce energy demand more than other section. To reduce the building energy consumption, this study analyzes function and thermal performance of Super window by heat experimental apparatus. Super window is a 2-track low-e glazing window for high insulation efficiency. By applying the results of this experiment to building energy efficience rating tool, this study compares energy efficiency rates depending on a region.-Jeju, South, Central. And it shows how much does Super window reduce Building energy consumption.

  • The electricity demand has been in the trend of increase for the past 30 years except last year due to economic crisis. The central electrical power dispatch center anticipates each and every hour's electricity demand and dispatch every power plant's output(MW) taking into account of the costs, frequency regulation abilities, locations, reliabilities and so on. to meet the demand as quickly as possible. The large portion of the power plants' output is contolled automatically by the AGC(Automatic Generation Control) function which is a part of the EMS(Energy Manage System) computer in the dispatch center. To receive the electrical power dispatch signal from the EMS, a power plant should have a remote MW control feature in the turbine control system or unit master control system. We investigated the AGC function and a power plant's remote MW control configuration.

  • In this paper, we investigate a group building based power consumption scheduling to minimize the electricity cost. We consider the demand shift to reduce the peak load and suggest the compensation function reflecting the relationship between the change of the building demand and the occupants' comfort. Using that, the electricity cost minimization problem satisfied the convexity is formulated, and the optimal power consumption scheduling algorithm is proposed based on the iterative method. Extensive simulations show that the proposed algorithm achieves the group management gain compared to the individual building operation by increasing the degree of freedom for the operation.

  • The impact evaluation of a DSM program is a very important issue since the results are used to determine the sustainability of a program. In general. to estimate the impacts of a DSM program it is required to measure the electricity usage changes before and after a program. Since the measurement-based approaches cost highly, most of the conventional evaluations are based on the average figures. However estimation of the average-based impacts can lead to both distorted results of over/under estimation of kW and kWh savings and non-optimal DSM planning. In this paper, we have developed a new multi-point measurement approach which can evaluate kW and kWh savings of a DSM program more exactly. To do this, the saving rate and operating rate are defined and set as the function of load factor of a customer, and these rates are incorporated with the conventional diffusion function of Bass to project the future impacts of a DSM program. The case study is performed on the inverter program of Korea by using the suggested approach.

  • This paper proposes a hybrid ESS that integrates an energy storage system (ESS) with an uninterruptible power supply (UPS). The hybrid ESS has a demand management and emergency power supply function while increasing the battery utilization of the UPS, which has just been used in a power failure. In addition to the critical load, the proposed system augments the capacity of emergency generation using an additional load, which has voltage and frequency-dependent characteristics to the grid side. The control algorithm of the AC-DC converter and bidirectional DC-DC converter is proposed for demand management and emergency power supply. Furthermore, seamless and autonomous transfer methods to alleviate the transient during mode transfer are proposed. To validate the proposed control scheme, experimental results from a 5 kW prototype are provided.

  • In this study, we propose a new method to forecast long-term energy demand in Korea. Based on Chang et al. (2016), which models the time varying long-run relationship between electricity demand and GDP with a function coefficient panel model, we design several schemes to retain objectivity of the forecasting model. First, we select the bandwidth parameters for the income coefficient based on the out-of-sample forecasting performance. Second, we extend the income coefficient using the functional principal component analysis method. Third, we proposed a method to reflect the elasticity change patterns inherent in Korea. In the empirical analysis part, we forecasts the long-term energy demand in Korea using the proposed method to show that the proposed method generates more stable long term forecasts than the existing methods.
