This study conducted a step-wise discriminant analysis to determine which variables play key roles in distinguishing among 3 mutually exclusive delinquent groups - disclosed delinquency group, closed delinquency group, and no delinquency group - and to 'develop a procedure for predicting group membership for new cases whose group membership is undetermined. Variables included in this study were collected by the review of previous empirical studies, which were identified as related to juvenile delinquency. The variables can be classified as character-related variables, family-related variables, school-related variables, peer-related variables, and socioeconomic variables. A sample of 693 youths were employed to conduct the statistical analysis. Out of 35 possible predictors of juvenile delinquency 14 variables were included in the pool of predicting variables. This study used a hold-out sample (n=300) to test if the linear discriminant function classify cases correctly into one of 3 groups. The percentage of cases classified correctly by the discriminant function was turned out to be acceptable in the area of social sciences. Discussions and suggestions were provided in terms of prevention and intervention for juvenile delinquency with focus on the 14 predictor variables.

This study examines the similarities and differences between the causes of juvenile delinquency in online and offline environments and in personal characteristics. The study utilizes data from the '2014 Survey on Juvenile Victimization in Korea'. The population of this survey is students attending middle and high schools across the country. While this paper is based on the Self-Control theory, opportunity factors based on the Routine Activity theory and the Situational Action theory are also applied. Results show that the causes of offline delinquency are low self-control, routine activity and frequent gaming and SNS use. The causes of online delinquency are high self-control, existence of communication with unknown persons and the spectrum of personal information online. The common element of offline and online delinquency was the presence of delinquent peers. These results show that while online and offline delinquency cannot be explained with the same methodology, at the same time they are not mutually exclusive.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the associations and paths among parenting behaviors, cyber delinquency, and moral sensitivity in adolescents to reduce and prevent cyber delinquency. Method: The data was collected by a survey for 270 students from a middle school and a high school in G city. The valid 262 cases were analyzed by frequency, descriptive analysis with SPSS 18.0 and tested by structural equation model by using AMOS 18.0 program. Results: Results showed that 1) 'control' among the parenting behaviors has positive effects on the cyber delinquency in adolescents, 2) 'intimacy and rationality' among the parenting behaviors has positive impacts on the moral sensitivity, 3) it shows that moral sensitivity has negative effects on the cyber delinquency in adolescents, and 4) bootstrapping test for indirect effect of moral sensitivity was verified significantly. We founded the full mediation of moral sensitivity and the path of 'intimacy and rationality' to cyber delinquency through moral sensitivity. Conclusions: The results implied 1) provision of the parent education and program for parents and newlyweds to learn positive parenting behaviors and 2) application of moral education to develop moral sensitivity of adolescents in schools and communities.

The purpose of this study was to examine gender differences in the impact of exposure to peer delinquency among elementary school-age students and the mediating effects of aggression. The study utilized 458 cases (220 male students, 238 female students) of data from the 2015 Korea Welfare Panel Study (KoWePS) conducted by the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs (KIHASA). The theoretical frameworks used in this study included Bandura's social learning theory, Akers' social learning theory, and Sutherland's differential association theory. The findings were as follows. First, there was no statistically significant effect on peer group's delinquency experience overall, aggression, and delinquency experience by gender. Second, male students' delinquency experience of their peer group had a statistically significant effect on their delinquency, however, this was not true for female students. Third, in the case of male students, aggression was found to mediate the relationship between peer group delinquency experience and their own delinquency, but not for female students. From these findings, we suggest a practical and policy-driven intervention plan, focusing on reducing the contact frequency of delinquency experience and aggression, The purpose of this study was to examine gender differences in the impact of exposure to peer delinquency among elementary school-age students and the mediating effects of aggression. This study examines the overall structure among family relationship, self-efficacy, self-esteem, and delinquency of adolescent in single-parent families using structural equation modeling to provide theoretical basis preventable juvenile delinquency. The data of 516 middle and high school students in the research into the promotion policies on children and adolescents' mental health(2012) by the National Youth Policy Institute analysed. The result of this study are: (1) family relationship affects self-efficacy, self-esteem, and delinquency of adolescent, (2) family relationship affects delinquency of adolescent by the mediation of self-esteem, (3) self-efficacy doesn't affect delinquency of adolescent. The aim of this study is to examine the mediating effect of self-esteem in the relationship between adolescent stress and delinquency. For this study, a survey with 565 middle and high school students in Daegu Metropolitan City was carried out, and using the data collected, frequency analysis, descriptive statistic analysis, correlation analysis, regression analysis and Sobel Test were conducted. The study results are as follows. First, stress had a positively significant effect on delinquency. Second, stress had a negatively significant effect on self-esteem. Third, self-esteem had a negatively significant effect on delinquency. This shows that a high level of stress among adolescents led to an increase in delinquency. Also, a high level of stress perceived by adolescents negatively influenced self-esteem, a low level of self-esteem is related to an increase in delinquency, and self-esteem had a partial mediating effect. Based on these results, therefore, this study suggested methods of introducing a mental health program for reducing adolescent stress and improving self-esteem and of preventing and intervening in delinquency.
The purpose of this study is to examine parental attitudes perceived by juvenile delinquents and to provide the basic material on the problem of juvenile delinquency. For this purpose, this study examines 1) the relation-ship between the juvenile delinquents' social demographic characteristics and the juvenile delinquents' view of parental attitudes 2) the correlation between the juvenile delinquents' social demographic characteristics and the content and the motive of delinquency, 3) the content and the motive of delinquency in accordance with the juvenile delinquents' view of parental attitudes. For the subject of this study, 318 juvenile delinquents who were in the custody of the institution in An-Yang were selected, and questionnaire sheets were used. Of 318 questionnaire sheets, 221 sheets were analyzed by statistical methods, and the data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, average, t-test, x-test, and F-test; 1. There is a significant difference in the juvenile delinquents' view of their fathers in accordance with their fathers' age. Namely, the younger the father is, the more the juvenile delinquent wants his father to be less negative. There is a significant difference in the juvenile delinquents' view of their mothers according to the existence of step-sibling. Juveniles with step-siblings deny their mothers' inconsistent attitude more than the juveniles without a step-sibling. 2. The social demographic characteristics influencing the content of juvenile delinquency are juvenile's age, the degree of education, the father's age, the style of possessing house and the region of a dwelling. The motive of delinquency show a significant difference according to the juvenile's age. 3. According to the results of studying the correlation between the view of parental attitudes and the content and the motive of delinquency, there is a significant difference in the father's protective attitude, and the content of delinquency as well as in the mother's positive denial, her rigid control, her inconsistent attitude and the content of delinquency. The subordinate domains are opposite to the traditional conception that the father is stern and the mother is peronssive. Today our society encourages the parents' equal and democratic attitude toward their children and the juvenile's view of parental attitudes is discordant with the reality. The juvenile delinquents' view of parental attitudes reflects the equalitariansim of the contemporary society but is influenced by the traditional view of the parents.
The purpose of this study was to find whether ego-resilience shows mediating effects between risk factors and Juvenile Delinquency. The data was conducted by using the multiple regression analysis. The results of the study were as follows: First, correlations among variables of risk factors and ego-resilience on subordinate variable of Juvenile Delinquency were significant. Second, the personal risk factors and ego-resilience have a significant influence on Juvenile Delinquency, and ego-resilience showed mediating effects between the personal risk factors and Juvenile Delinquency. Third, school related risk factors and ego-resilience have a significant influence on Juvenile Delinquency, and ego-resilience showed mediating effects between school related factors and Juvenile Delinquency.
