  • In order to study unconsolidated sediments upstream of the Soyang Dam, seismic refraction data were recorded along five profiles of 94 m length. Receiver interval and record length were 2 m and 204 ms, respectively. Recorded data were analyzed using the traveltime tomography and delay-time methods in order to reveal sediment distribution in the investigation site. The acoustic basements are buried at approximately 14 m deep and their thickness shallows to southeast approaching to a hill. On the basement, pre-existing sediments deposited before construction of the Soyang dam lies. This sedimentary layer is composed of paleo-soil and sandy sediments. Above this layer, recent sediments comprise the top layer which is believed to have been deposited since the formation of the dam. Average thickness of this uppermost layer is approximately 1.6 m, which is much thicker than in the downstream.

  • We consider the robust control problem for non-minimum phase(NMP) systems with parametric uncertainty. First, a new method that translates such an uncertain NMP system into a interval family of minimum phase(MP) transfer functions followed a time delay term in the form of Pade' approximation is presented. The controller to be proposed consists of a compensator with Smith predictor structure, so that it can compensate the time delay behaviour due to NMP plant. Therein, the main feedback controller for a family of MP plants has been designed by using quantitative feedback theory(QFT) such that satisfies the robust stability against the structured uncertainty. The stability and performance of overall system are examined through an illustrative example.

  • Background: According to the National Family Health Survey-4, in India, 78.9% of deliveries occur in institutions, although only 42.6% of new mothers initiate breastfeeding within 1 hour of delivery. Purpose: To estimate the proportion of early initiation of breastfeeding (EIBF) among new mothers at discharge from a tertiary care hospital and identify the determinants of delayed initiation of breastfeeding among them. Methods: This was a hospital-based analytical cross-sectional study of 108 new mothers. After obtaining Institutional Review Board approval and informed consent, we interviewed the new mothers on the day of discharge. Multivariate logistic regression was performed using IBM SPSS Statistics ver. 24. Results: The median breastfeeding initiation time was 90 minutes (interquartile range, 30-180 minutes). Overall, 43.5% of the mothers practiced EIBF, 77.4% practiced exclusive breastfeeding, and 43.5% were rooming in at discharge. Reasons for breastfeeding delays included extended recovery time from spinal anesthesia, maternal lassitude, and uncomfortable breastfeeding position due to post-cesarean pain. In the multivariate analysis, a birth weight less than 2,500 g (adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 4.33; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.12-16.82; P=0.03), cesarean section delivery (aOR, 4.68; 95% CI, 1.57-13.92; P=0.005), and mother's poor knowledge of breastfeeding (aOR, 4.61; 95% CI, 1.44-14.72; P=0.010) were more likely to delay the initiation of breastfeeding. Conclusion: EIBF was practiced by less than half of the new mothers as determined by the cesarean section, baby's birth weight, and mothers' awareness of breastfeeding. Thus, it is vital to improve breastfeeding and nutritional counseling among mothers during the antenatal period and improve healthcare professionals' training to facilitate EIBF, even in circumstances such as cesarean section.

  • Background: Tracheostomy is a common procedure for patients requiring prolonged mechanical ventilation. However, the timing of tracheostomy is quite variable. This study was performed to find out the factors determining the timing of tracheostomy in medical intensive care unit (ICU). Methods: Patients who were underwent tracheostomy between January 2008 and December 2009 in the medical ICU of Seoul National University Hospital were included in this retrospective study. Results: Among the 59 patients, 36 (61.0%) were male. Median Acute Physiology And Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE) II scores and Sequential Organ Failure Assessment scores on the admission day were 28 and 7, respectively. The decision of tracheostomy was made on 13 days, and tracheostomy was performed on 15 days after endotracheal intubation. Of the 59 patients, 21 patients received tracheostomy before 2 weeks (group I) and 38 were underwent after 2 weeks (group II). In univariate analysis, days until the decision to perform tracheostomy (8 vs. 14.5, p<0.001), days before tracheostomy (10 vs. 18, p<0.001), time delay for tracheostomy (2.1 vs. 3.0, p<0.001), cardiopulmonary resuscitation (19.0% vs. 2.6%, p=0.049), existence of neurologic problem (38.1% vs. 7.9%, p=0.042), APACHE II scores (24 vs. 30, p=0.002), and $PaO_2/FiO_2$ <300 mm Hg (61.9% vs. 91.1%, p=0.011) were different between the two groups. In multivariate analysis, APACHE II scores${\geq}20$ (odds ratio [OR], 12.44; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.14~136.19; p=0.039) and time delay for tracheostomy (OR, 1.97; 95% CI, 1.11~3.55; p=0.020) were significantly associated with tracheostomy after 2 weeks. Conclusion: APACHE II scores${\geq}20$ and time delay for tracheostomy were associated with tracheostomy after 2 weeks.

  • Recently Task Group (TG) 4 of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.15a has been recommended a system with ranging capability in existence of multiple Simultaneous operating piconets (SOPs) as well as low-cost, low-power. According to the ranging service, coherent and non-coherent based ranging schemes using ternary code have been adopted as a standard. However it is hard to estimate an accurate time of arrival (TOA) in case of using direct sequence based TOA estimation method because pulse repetition interval (PRI) offered by TG is more limited than the maximum excess delay (MED) of channel. To mitigate inter pulse interference (IPI) problem, this paper proposes a non-coherent TOA estimation scheme using non-periodic transmission (NPT) pattern. The proposed receiver is based on a non-coherent energy detection considering with motivation of low rate wireless personal area network (LR-WPAN). TOA information is estimated via proper comparison with a prescribed threshold after the sliding correlation and search back window (SBW) process for reducing TOA error. To verify the performance of proposed ranging scheme, two distinct channel models approved by IEEE 802.15.4a TG are considered. According to the simulation results, we could conclude that the proposed scheme have performed better performance than the conventional method on the existence of multiple SOPs.

  • As the development of an information technique, gradually, mobile device is going to be miniaturized and operates at high speed. By such the requirements, the devices using a flash memory as a storage media are increasing. The flash memory consumes low power, is a small size, and has a fast access time like the main memory. But the flash memory must erase for recording and the erase cycle is limited. JFFS is a representative filesystem which reflects the characteristics of the flash memory. JFFS to be consisted of LSF structure, writes new data to the flash memory in sequential, which is not related to a file size. Mounting a filesystem or an error recovery is achieved through the sequential approach. Therefore, the mounting delay time is happened according to the file system size. This paper proposes a MJFFS to use a multi-checkpoint information to manage a mass flash file system efficiently. A MJFFS, which improves JFFS, divides a flash memory into the block for suitable to the block device, and stores file information of a checkpoint structure at fixed interval. Therefore mounting and error recovery processing reduce efficiently a number of filesystem access by collecting a smaller checkpoint information than capacity of actual files. A MJFFS will be suitable to a mobile device owing to accomplish fast mounting and error recovery using advantage of log foundation filesystem and overcoming defect of JFFS.

  • This study was carried out to provide basic data for spreading rice direct seeding by inducing stabilization of seedlings, yield and quality according to sowing times in rice direct seeding cultivation. In 2016, 'Sukwang' was seeded 3 times by 10 days interval on May. 10, 20, 30 and 6kg/10ha of seeding rate respectively in Iksan. In summary, the number of rice seedling establishment was higher than the optimum seedling establishment level at all sowing periods and the seeding rate was better as the sowing period was delayed. Weed development by sowing was the highest at early sowing, May 10, and decreased at late sowing. Heading dates were delayed by 3days for sowing on May 10, 7days for sowing on May 20, and 11 days on sowing on May 30. Rice yield increased with the delay sowing time and compared to the transplanting. It was 84% in sowing on May 10, 94% in sowing on May 20, and 99% in sowing on May 30. In addition, head rice ratio and head rice yield increased according to delayed of seedling.

  • This paper proposes the fuzzy-PLL control system for fast response time and precision control of automation systems. The conventional PLL has not only a jitter noise caused from such a demerit of the wide dead zone, but also a long delay interval that makes a high speed operation unable. In order to solve the problems, the proposed system, which provides the improvement in terms of the control region in high speed and precision control, first used the fuzzy control method for fast response time and when the error reaches the preset value, used the PLL method designing new PFD for precision control. The new designed multi-PFD improves the dead zone, jitter noise and response characteristics, which is consists of P-PFD(Positive edge triggered PFD) and N-PFD(Negative edge triggered PFD) and can improve response characteristics to increase PFD gain.

  • Recently, it has been reported that mechanical stimulation takes a role in improving cell growth. Also, became generally known that skeletal system as bone or cartilage tissues take influence of compression loading. In this study, we fabricated a custom-made bioreactor and analyzed that conditions of compressive loading would influence cell growth. To compare the effect of intermittent compressive loading on cell-encapsulated agarose scaffold, we cultured preosteoblast cell (MC3T3-E1 cells) statically and dynamically. And dynamic culture conditions were produced by changing parameters such as the iteration time and interval delay time. Also, cellencapsulated agarose scaffold were subjected to 10 % dynamic compressive strain at 1㎐ frequency for 7 days. After cell culture, cell proliferation was assessed with PI stain assay for fluorescence images and flow cytometry (FACS).
