  • We investigate compressive sensing techniques to estimate sparse channel in Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing(OFDM) systems. In the case of large channel delay spread, compressive sensing may not be applicable because it is affected by length of measurement vectors. In this paper, we increase length of measurement vector adding pilot information to OFDM data block. The increased measurement vector improves probability of finding path delay set and Mean Squared Error(MSE) performance. Simulation results show that signal recovery performance of a proposed scheme is better than conventional schemes.

  • This study proposes a method to reduce the phase error of the received signal to detect the object bearing. The phase shift of the received signal occurs due to the multipath of the signal by natural structure or artificial structures. When detecting the direction of the object using radio waves, the phase of the received signal cannot be accurately detected because of the phase bearing error in the object detection direction. The object detection direction estimation depends on the phase difference, antenna installation distance, signal source wavelength, frequency band and bearing angle. This study reduces the error of the phase bearing by using the phase delay of the relative phase difference for the signals incident on the two antennas. Through simulation, we analyzed the object direction detection performance of the proposed method and the existing method. Three targets are detected from the [-15°, 0°, 15°] direction. The existing method detects the target at [-13°, 3°, 17°], and the proposed method detects the at [-15°, 0°, 15°]. As a result of the simulation, the target detection direction of the proposed method is improved by 2 degrees compared to the existing method.

  • This report proposes a novel method of identification of continuous time-delay systems from sampled input-output data. By the aid of a digital pre-filter, an approximated discrete-time estimation model is first derived, in which the system parameters remain in their original form and the time delay need not be an integral multiple of th sampling period. Then an identification method combining the common linear least squares(LS) method or the instrumental variable(IV) method with the genetic algorithm(GA) is proposed. That is, the time-delay is selected by the GA, and the system parameters are estimated by the LS or IV method. Furthermore, the proposed method is extended to the case of multi-input multi-output systems where the time-delays in the individual input channels may differ each other. Simulation resutls show that our method yields consistent estimates even in the presence of high measurement noises.

  • In this paper, the error caused by the measurement delay in INS/GPS integrated systems with Kalman filtering is defined and analyzed through the analytical method and the simulation. It is proved that the error of measurement delay causes not only the position error but also the estimate error of the x-axis accelerometer bias when a vehicle turns. And the estimation method of the delay time and the compensation method using an extrapolation method are presented. The performance of the compensation method is shown by the analytic method and the simulation.

  • This paper presents a robust state observer design for a class of Lipschitz nonlinear systems with time delay and external disturbance. Sufficient conditions on the existence of the proposed observer are characterized by linear matrix inequalities. It is also shown that the proposed observer design can reduce the effect on the estimation error of external disturbance up to the prescribed level in spite of the existence of time delay. Finally, a numerical example is provided to verify the proposed design method.

  • Indirect adaptive pole assignment PID controllers for unknown systems with time varying delay, is proposed. Unknown system parameters are estimated by recursive least square method, and time varying delay is estimated using indirect predictors. Since the order of parameter vectors didn't increase, the computational burden is not largely increased in spite of using indirect adaptive control method with time varying delay estimation. Computer simulation is performed to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed method.

  • Humanoid robots have fascinated many researchers since they appeared decades ago. For the requirement of both accurate tracking control and the safety of physical human-robot interaction, torque control is basically desirable for humanoid robots. Humanoid robots are highly nonlinear, coupled, complex systems, accordingly the calculation of robot model is difficult and even impossible if precise model of the humanoid robots are unknown. Therefore, it is difficult to control using traditional model-based techniques. To realize model-free torque control, time-delay control (TDC) for humanoid robot was proposed with time-delay estimation technique. Using optimal walking trajectory obtained by particle swarm optimization, TDC with proposed scheme is implemented on whole body of a humanoid, not on biped legs even though it is performed by a virtual humanoid robot. The simulation results show the validity of the proposed TDC for humanoid robots.

  • In recent years, chip delay estimation has had an increasingly important impact on overall design technology. The analysis of the timing behavior of an ASIC should be based not only on the delay characteristics of gates and interconnect circuits but also on the interactions between them. This model plays an important role in our CAD system to analyze the ASIC timing characteristics accurately, together with two-dimensional gate delay table model, AWE algorithm and effective capacitance concept. In this paper, we present an efficient algorithm which accounts for series resistance by computing a reduced-order approximation for the driving-point admittance of an RC-tree and an effective capacitance equation that captures the complete waveform response accurately.

  • A robust signal transition density propagation method for a zero delay model is presented to obtain the signal transition density for estimating the power consumption. The power estimation for the zero delay model is a proper criteria for the lower boundary of power consumption. Since the input characteristics are generally unknown at design stage, robust estimation for wide range input characteristics is very important for the power consumption. In this paper, a conventional transition estimation method will be explored. And this exploration will be analyzed with the input/output signal transition behavior and used to propose the robust signal transition density propagation for the power estimation. In order to apply to practical circuits, the reconvergent path, which is crucial to affect the exactness of the power estimation, will be studied and an algorithm to take the reconvergent path into consideration will be presented. In experiment, the proposed methodology shows better robustness, comparable accuracy and elapsed time compared to the conventional methods.

  • This paper presents a serial communication based fault diagnosis scheme for a brushless DC (BLDC) motor using parameter estimation and Bayes classifier. The presented scheme consists of a smart network board, and a fault detection and isolation (FDI) master. The smart network board is installed near the BLDC motor drive system to acquire motor data and transmit motor data to the FDI-master via serial communication channel. The FDI-master estimates BLDC motor resistance to detect symptom of faults, and assign symptom to fault type using Bayes classifier. In this scheme, since communication time delay has a serious effect on performance, periodic and fixed communication protocol is designed. Hence, the delay time is priory known. By experiment result, presented scheme was verified.
