Elliptical tubes may buckle in an elastic local buckling failure mode under uniform compression. Previous analyses of the local buckling of these members have assumed that the cross-section is hollow, but it is well-known that the local buckling capacity of thin-walled closed sections may be increased by filling them with a rigid medium such as concrete. In many applications, the medium many not necessarily be rigid, and the infill can be considered to be an elastic material which interacts with the buckling of the elliptical tube that surrounds it. This paper uses an energy-based technique to model the buckling of a thin-walled elliptical tube containing an elastic infill, which elucidates the physics of the buckling phenomenon from an engineering mechanics basis, in deference to a less generic finite element approach to the buckling problem. It makes use of the observation that the local buckling in an elliptical tube is localised with respect to the contour of the ellipse in its cross-section, with the localisation being at the region of lowest curvature. The formulation in the paper is algebraic and it leads to solutions that can be determined by implementing simple numerical solution techniques. A further extension of this formulation to a stiffness approach with multiple degrees of buckling freedom is described, and it is shown that using the simple one degree of freedom representation is sufficiently accurate for determining the elastic local buckling coefficient.
Recent abnormal climate change induces localized heavy rainfall and extreme disasters such as debris flow near urban area. Thus many researches have been conducted to estimate and prevent, especially in focus of physical behavior of debris flow. Even though it is hardly to consider overall related parameters to estimate the extent and degree of directly or indirectly damages due to debris flow. Those analytic restraint would be caused by the diversity and complexity of regional topographic and hydrodynamic characteristics of debris flow inside. We have utilized the Bayesian method to compensate the uncertainty due to the complex characteristics of it after analyzing the numerical results from FLO-2D and field measurement data. Revised values by field measurements will enhance the numerical results and the missing parameters during numerical simulation will be supplemented with this methodology. As a final outcome in this study, the risk index of debris flow damage will be suggested to provide quantitative estimation in terms of hazard protection including the impact on buildings, especially in inner and outer of urban area.
Correlation between microstructural features and segregation of elements (Si, Mn, P and S) near the mid of thickness in the base metal and the synthetic HAZ was investigated. Furthermore, the relationship between the degree of center segregation and weld cold cracking susceptibility in the thickness direction was also conducted by evaluating the effect of P concentration on the critical applied stress. The results obtained are as follows: 1) Pearlite band, containing the MnS type inclusion and a locally transformed structure with a higher hardness, was observed in the center segregation region. 2) By the weld thermal cycle, center segregation region was transformed to the white band which had a higher hardness than that of base metal due to a greater hardenability of concentrated Mn, P etc.. 3) Weld cold cracking susceptibility in the thickness direction was mainly dependent on the concentration of impurity elements rather than on the number of the segregated particles near the mid of thickness. 4) During welding, the higher concentrated region was easily changed into white band. Therefore, it could be predicted that the initiation and propagation of a cold crack would be promoted by increasing the restraint stress and hydrogen content.
Despite a current fascination with East Asian iconography such as Zen Style among contemporary designers, there is a lack of genuine cross-cultural discourse that could enable us to share essential design experiences. To bring the discussion a deeper level, traditional Japanese tea-house in its design philosophy of body-mind interplay is explored. Tea-house is a superb manifestation to reveal a holistic understanding of the world. Nondualistic realization is generally associated with the dominant tendency of traditional East Asian philosophy, namely the view that the self and environment, and that the mind and the body exist in unity. The essence of tea-house is not in its poetic style or meticulous details, but in its unmistakably monistic approach of creating inseparable form, function and meaning. Tea-house bestows dignity upon restraint, imperfection, discomfort, poverty, and even humility. This concept offers a tremendous insight since it implies that the rational and effective design solution to the greatest degree is not sufficient. Perhaps the most challenging question about tea-house is: How does our experience with human-made 'design' in the broadest sense help both our body and mind attain a full harmony of being? It is the heading which this research inquires.
This study aims to find out cooling characteristics of TMA(Tri-Methyl-Amine, $(CH_3)_3N$) 25wt%-water clathrate compound with ethanol($CH_3CH_2OH$) such as supercooling, phase change temperature and specific heat. For this purpose, ethanol is added as per weight concentration and cooling experiment is performed at $-6{\sim}-8^{\circ}C$, cooling heat source temperature, and it leads the following result. (1) Phase change temperature is decreased due to freezing point depression phenomenon. Especially, it is minimized as $3.8^{\circ}C$ according to cooling source temperature in case that 0.5wt% of ethanol is added. (2) If 0.5wt% of ethanol is added, average supercooling degree is $0.9^{\circ}C$ and minimum supercooling is 0.8, $0.7^{\circ}C$ according to cooling heat source temperature. The restraint effect of supercooling is shown. (3) Specific heat shows tendency to decrease if ethanol is added. It is $3.013{\sim}3.048\;kcal/kg^{\circ}C$ according to cooling heat source temperature if 0.5wt% of ethanol is added. Phase change temperature higher than that of water and inhibitory effect against supercooling can be confirmed through experimental study on cooling characteristics of TMA 25wt%-water clathrate compound by adding additive, ethanol. This can lead to shorten refrigerator operation time of low temperature latent heat storage system and improve COP of refrigerator and efficiency of overall system. Therefore energy can be saved and efficiency can be improved much more.

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigated the dietary habits of students in order to identify risk groups according to their Body Mass Index (BMI), and to compare the eating behavior of students in the normal range (19${\le}$24) and those in risk groups (BMI${\le}$19, 24${\le}$27, BMI>27). Method : 1176 elementary school students, 850 middle school students and 672 high school students in Wonju City, were the participants The instrument for this study was a structured questionnaire that included demographic data as well as dietary habits, and the eating behavior instrument developed by Stunkard & Messick(1985) and revised by Kim & Kim (1997). Result : 1) As students moved up ingrade level their dietary habits became more irregular and the degree that students chewed food was reduced 2) As students moved up in grade level, a greater number of the student did not eat breakfast. The reasons given were that there were not enough time before classes started(40.4%) and a lack of appetite in the morning(10.6%) in high school students. 3) As for supper, from 67.8 to 81.9% of subjects reported having regular supper. However the rest of the subjects did not eat supper because of anorexia and fear of weight gain. 4) The results identified risk groups according to their BMI showed that for elementary school students, 55.9% were in the low weight group, 5.5% in the overweight group, and 0.9% in the obese group. For middle and high school students, 40.6% and 35.5% respectively were in the low weight group, 7.4% and 6.3% in the overweight group, and 4.1% and 2.5% the obese group. 5) Comparisons of the eating behavior of students in the normal weight group with that of those in the three risk groups showed that there significant differences in 'hunger' and cognitive restraint of eating' in elementary school students, and significant differences in 'cognitive restraint of eating' in middle and high school students. Conclusion : The results of this study show that management of diet in school health should be addressed from both the aspect of lack of nutrition and that of excess nutrition. In other words, good diet is as important for students in the low weight group as it is for those in the overweight and obese groups. The establishment of good dietary habits and eating behavior in students, by nurses and dieticians should be done by providing repeated diet education and involvement in diet counseling.

Reinforced concrete beams can be strengthened in a structural retrofit process by attaching steel plates to their sides by bolting. Whilst bolting produces a confident degree of shear connection under conditions of either static or seismic overload, the plates are susceptible to local buckling. The aim of this paper is to investigate the local buckling of unilaterally-restrained plates with point supports in a generic fashion, but with particular emphasis on the provision of the restraints by bolts, and on the geometric configuration of these bolts on the buckling loads. A numerical procedure, which is based on the Rayleigh-Ritz method in conjunction with the technique of Lagrange multipliers, is developed to study the unilateral local buckling of rectangular plates bolted to the concrete with various arrangements of the pattern of bolting. A sufficient number of separable polynomials are used to define the flexural buckling displacements, while the restraint condition is modelled as a tensionless foundation using a penalty function approach to this form of mathematical contact problem. The additional constraint provided by the bolts is also modelled using Lagrange multipliers, providing an efficacious method of numerical analysis. Local buckling coefficients are determined for a range of bolting configurations, and these are compared with those developed elsewhere with simplifying assumptions. The interaction of the actions in bolted plates during buckling is also considered.
The woven fabric composed of nylon 6 filaments was treated with aqueous solutions (20, 30, 40, 50, 60%) of formic acid at 3$0^{\circ}C$ for 10 minutes under unrestrained condition, and the shrinkage behavior and some kinds of properties were examined. The shrinkages of the constituent yarns and fabric were increased with formic acid concentration, but they were lower than that of the original filaments because of fabric-structural factors. And the shrinkage of the warp was lower than that of the weft because of the residual stress from weaving process. By the restraint forces such as fabric-structural factors and residual stress, the constituent filaments were damaged partially at 60% of formic acid concentration and the degree of damage on the warp was greater than on the weft. And though the fabric count were increased overall, the spacing between the warps was decreased prior to the weft and eliminated nearly at 60% of formic acid concentration. The thickness, tensile strength, elongation, and handle value of fabric were increased overall with formic acid concentration excepting that the tensile strength for both the warp and weft directions and the elongation for the warp direction were decreased instead by the damage of yarns. But the crease recovery was decreased except the case of the weft direction at 60% of formic acid concentration.

Functional dyspepsia (FD) is a gastrointestinal disorder with diverse symptoms but no structural or organic manifestations. Benachio-F® (herein named 'BF-1') is an over-the-counter liquid digestive formulated with multiple herbal extracts, which has been reported to improve symptoms of FD. A total two experiments were conducted. First, we examined whether BF-1 can modulate the progression of FD through two experimental rat models. A total of three doses (0.3x, 1x, 3x of the human equivalent dose) were used. In the gastric emptying model, both 1x (standard) or 3x (3-fold-concentrated) BF-1 enhanced gastric emptying was compared with that of vehicle-treated animals. In a feeding inhibition model induced by acute restraint stress, treatment with 1x or 3x BF-1 led to a similar degree of restoration in food intake that was comparable to that of acotiamide-treated animals. Among the constituents of BF, fennel is known for its choleretic effect. Thus, we next investigated whether a novel BF-based formula (named 'BF-2') that contains an increased amount of fennel extract (3.5-fold over BF-1), has greater potency in increasing bile flow. BF-2 showed a superior choleretic effect compared to BF-1. Furthermore, the postprandial concentration of serum secretin was higher in animals pretreated with BF-2 than in those pretreated with BF-1, suggesting that the increased choleretic effect of BF-2 is related to secretin production. Our results demonstrate that BF-1 can modulate the pathophysiological mechanisms of FD by exerting prokinetic and stress-relieving effects, and that BF-2 has a better choleretic effect than BF-1.
