  • Recently, miniaturization and weight reduction is getting more attention due to various benefits in automotive components design. It is a trend that the design of experiment(DOE) and statical design method are frequently used for optimization. In this research, the safety of lower control arm is evaluated according to its material change form S45C to A16061 for the reduction of arm's weight. The variance analysis on the basis of structure analysis and DOE is applied to the lower control m. We have proposed a statistical design model to evaluate the effect of structural modification by performing the practical multi-objective optimization considering mass, stress and deflection.

  • Blades of tidal stream turbines have to sustain many different loads during operation in the underwater environment, so securing their structural safety is a key issue. In this study, we focused on periodic loads due to wave orbital motion and propose a load reduction method with a blade design. The flap of an airplane wing is a well-known structure designed to increase lift, and it can also change the load distribution on the wing through deflection. For this reason, we adopted a passive flap structure for the load reduction and investigated its effectiveness by an analytical method based on the blade element moment theory. Flap torsional stiffness required for the design of the passive flap can be obtained by calculating the flap moment based on the analytic method. Comparison between a flapped and a fixed blade showed the effect of the flap on load reduction in a high amplitude wave condition.

  • Reinforced concrete (RC) structures have been most widely used because of their good economic efficiency. However, it is very weak in tensile stresses and difficult to control deflection due to the heavy self-weight of concrete. On the other hand, it is generally known that prestressed concrete structures can be the most effective to overcome the demerits of RC structures by using various tendon lay-out and its amount. In the prestressed concrete members, the inflection points of tendons should be placed effectively for the deflection control and the moment reduction. Therefore, in this study, the equations of tendon profiles are derived in terms of polynomials that satisfy essential conditions of tendon geometries such as inflection points and natural curved shapes of tendons placed in continuous members, from which vertical components of prestressing forces can be also calculated. The derived high order polynomial expression for the distributed shape of the upward and downward forces was transformed to an simplified equivalent uniform vertical force in order to improve the applicability in the calculation of member deflection. The influences of vertical forces by tendons to deflection and moment in a continuous slab were also considered depending on the distance from column face to the location of tendons. The applicability of the proposed method was examined by an example of deflection calculation for the cases of slabs with and without tendons, and the efficiency of deflection control by tendons was also quantitatively estimated.

  • For the evaluation of the plasma display panel (PDP)'s noise, vibration and sound characteristics of fanless PDP are measured and investigated. PDP is a type of two-electrode vacuum tube which operatres on the same principle as a household fluorescent light. An inert gas such as argon or neon is injected between two glass plates on which transparent electrodes have been formed, and the glass is illuminated by generating discharge. (omitted)

  • The demand for the structural system of reduction of story height increases because buildings are getting higher. The existing structural systems are not efficiency. Thus, it is hard to reduce the story height and existing methods cannot secure economics as expected. This study aims at developing the partially concrete-filled new type composite beam, which can efficiently resist against the end negative moment and central positive moment, also reduce deflection of beams. Through case studies on loading of concentrated load and uniformly distributed load to fixed beam, we could find the most efficient ratio of moment of inertia and the ratio ${\alpha}$(end beam length to span). The gap space between middle and end beam can be used as facilities installation, consequently the suggested Omega beam system is expected to get the effect of reduction in story height as well as reduction of quantity.

  • In order to predict vibration trends occurred during vehicle drive, acceleration data was processed by using data processing algorithm with moving average and Hilbert transform. Specific mode constants of acceleration were obtained under various disturbance. Vehicle velocity, road condition, property of pointing structure were considered as factors which make change of vibration trend in vehicle dynamics. Results of signal processing were compared and analysed. Advanced performance of the timing selection algorithm from this study was verified by using simple equipment comparing with the deflection measurement laser system(Muzzle Reference System).

  • In this study, the track-bridge interaction analysis was performed using an analytical model considering the track structure, thereby taking into account the linear conditions (R=650 m, cant variation $160{\pm}60mm$) and the dynamic characteristics of the bridge. As a result of the study, the allowable speed on the example bridge considered was calculated at 200 km/h based on vertical deflection, vertical acceleration, and irregularity in longitudinal level, but was also evaluated at 170km/h based on the coefficient of derailment, wheel load reduction, and lateral displacement of the rail head. It is considered desirable to set the speed 170km/h to the speed limit in order to secure the safety of both the bridge and the track. It is judged that there will be no problems with ensuring rail protection and train stability in the speed band.

  • In recent railway construction, the concrete slab track is getting highlighted as main stream in track type. However, it is the fact that there are different opinions in selection of the optimized spring coefficient of elastic pad. In this study, the performance of vibration reduction in different stiffness of rail pad for ballasted track was compared, and the changes in characteristics, such as static/dynamic deflection of components, vibration acceleration, insertion loss etc., were analysed by using ISI Program for various types of rail fastening system used in concrete slab track. It was concluded that the fastening system with softer pads has shown the better performance of vibration reduction in concrete slab track and the optimized static stiffness has been calculated to 21.1kN/mm for conventional railways, 17.6kN/mm for high-speed railways and 17.8kN/mm for subways.

  • Main vibration problems of a transaxle type forklift truck are caused by the resonance of engine excitation force and natural mode shade of major components such as engine-mount system, mast, and main frame. But, it is well known that the reduction of vibration is very difficult because of the limitation of structural modifications. In this paper, the vibration characteristics of engine-mast system including engine mount were firstly identified by the experimental and simplified numerical methods. And also, the free and forced vibration characteristics of a whole forklift truck were surveyed with modal test and ODS(operation deflection shape) measurement. Based on these results, the reliable finite element model was developed. Finally, various countermeasures were considered and applied to a real forklift truck and then its effects were confirmed.
